Hello fellow Sparkers!

My name is Eris and I'm on day 3 of this challenge. I just realized the calendar challenges had forum boards, I had no idea! lol

I'm currently on a weight plateau but I'm trying to push through it. It's most important to me that I'm healthy and active, although my long-term goal is actually to strengthen and tone muscle. I'm coming out of a ridiculously sedentary lifestyle, so I'm trying to ease myself into strength training. So far it's going well.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and can't wait to see what this challenge brings!

My name is Frankie and I'm not new to this site or challenge I have decided to start the challenge over and stay on track this time. I have two daughters that are very supportive and motivational help. I'm working on day 1 and setting my small goals. I think my first goal will be read my devotional every night and get up once a hour from my desk and take a walk.

Into week two. Getting more comfortable with learning everything. I was use to a less complex system and one team, but no communication. Log in food, exercise and water. Like this a lot better.

Hi! I'm coming back to sparkpeople, I've used it in the past and lost weight. Now, two babies later I need to get back on track and kick the baby weight, get healthy and teach my family healthy habits! I didn't get this weight in a day and it won't be gone in a day I just need some accountability so that I stick with it and don't just revert back to my old, unhealthy ways!

Hi I've also been with Spark for a long time. In the beginning I thought I would never leave Spark, I lost a lot of weight and Spark became revolving door and with each turn I gained back more weight. Starting over seems so daunting to me but this challenge seems less overwhelming for me.

I joined this Challenge because I need to be Realistic in setting and achieving my goals. Resolution - a noun -- the act of finding an answer to a conflict, problem, etc.: the act of resolving something.
Goal - noun -- something that you are trying to do or achieve.
By definition of these words I find this Challenge to be highly encouraging and helpful. Thanks SparkPeople!

Ask, and it shall be given to you;
Seek, and you shall find;
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Matthew 7:7

Now the Beroeans were more noble minded than those in Thessalonica, for they recieved the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so. Act 17:11

I've been with SparkPeople a long time ~ too long not to have achieved maintenance by now. The trouble is that I keep going "AWOL" for weeks or months at a time.

So often when I've returned in the past & thought of the 101 things I did to achieve success I feel lost & defeated. This team/Challenge seems a good way to re*establish some basic habits while not feeling overwhelmed.

My prayer for myself AND all of you is that we may realize our goals.

I'm setting a goal of 5 pounds at a time, it sounds so much better than 50 and I'm not setting a time limit on that. I'm 63 and it seems that I don't lose a quickly as I used to.

I am hoping this challenge will help me set a realistic goal for my long term weight. I know I weighed in the 120s when I was 20, 130s when I was 30, 140s when was 40 and am now sitting in the 150s...But is 120 a realistic goal? My goal at this point is to get the scale moving in the other direction for a prolonged period of time. I am the queen of the 10 pound weight loss...unfortunately I gain those 10 back...I'd like to find a way to lose weight and keep it off...and guidance on how much would be realistic...

I am losing weight 10% at a time. I can do this!
Goal: 5 pounds a season.

My name is Elizabeth, for the past 10 years I have been trying to lose 20 lbs. It seems little compared to others, but it hasn't been easy for me. I have managed to lose 10 lb when I am very strict with writing down everything I eat, but as soon as I stop the weight creeps back up. My wish is to lose the pounds and not have to write down everything I eat in order to stick to my goal. emoticon

Hi, I am a 57 year old and as of today, I need to lose 55 lbs. I have been an on and off sparker for several years. I started Spark people because I was not wanting Bariatric Surgery. I started out at 233 lbs. I had lost my mother in 2005 from pancreatic cancer and had self medicated with food. I dropped 15 lbs in a month and my friends began to notice. My current weight is 195.

I have a tendency to not log my food when I eat to much and go over my caloric count and carbohydrates. My goal is to make my meals at home when possible, so I don't eat all those processed foods.

I walk at least 2000 steps per day using my Fitbit (which was the best 50.00 I ever spent). I had it programmed for more, but when I was pushing myself, I have had trouble with my heel. Now, I have to wait and see about surgery. emoticon

Hi all! My name is Christine, I'm 64 years old and have about 50 pounds to lose. I'm down 8 so far. I live alone with my 18 year old cat. I'm still working and get up at 5:00 am to be at work on time (I am NOT a morning person). I have to be pretty organized or else everything starts getting crazy. For a goal I want to dig in my yard at least 15 minutes a day, minimum 4 days a week.

I am 63,I am in maintenance,I lost 20 pounds ( it will be 1 year in November) and I hope to stay in my present rang of 100-105 pounds.
Right now I am doing my best to limit sugars,no junk foods because I realize I have been having sugar crashes. I had been so tired and I mean tired.
So far (after only 3 days) I have had a bit more energy and am really feeling a lot better.
I am on my second 30 days here and plan to eat right and walk 10,000 steps a day.
Plus I am a vegetarian and I am trying to go Vegan for at least these 21 days (using it as a start).
I hope to get healthier and look and feel better.

hello, this is my second go with SP. I am starting with small, realistic changes and goals and am finding the success at that is keeping me more motivated.I have 40 pounds to lose, but at this point I am focusing on action goals (exercise, drinking water) versus scale goals.

Hi. I have done this challenge before. Seems like they are not producing new ones. I can use a little help with consistency. I was assaulted in March by my husband. He resprained my knee. I was in physical therapy, but now am doing exercises at home. I do the exercises 4 days a week, but need to do them 7. I do leg lifts with ankle weights for 15 minutes and ride an exercise bike for 45.

On February 3rd will be my first anniversary of keeping 55 pounds off. I had no support from the Sparkpeoplecommunity. I made friends but they were not interested in helping me. My sisterwas very helpful as well as SparkRecipe.

Hi, I am new to the group but not to SP. I really really miss the short cut water tracker that used to be on the spin page. Sigh, just reminded of that on Day 2 during the water reminder. I'm doing pretty good, lost 50 pounds and then fell, then had the shingles on my face, my eye, and in my brain. I have only just started to regain my thought processes after a year and a half. I am proud that I stayed within 5 pounds during that year and half of not functioning let alone trying to keep the weight off. That means to me anyway, that some of the habits have actually become ingrained! I now have about another 100 pounds to take off. I kept up spinning the wheel as many days as I could while I was in bed so that probably helped too. I am 65, a retired senior. I live in the great white North. In northern Saskatchewan which if you are from the states - it takes me 6 1/2 hours to drive south to the North Dakota border. emoticon

Have an enjoyable day

My name is Patti and I am in my 60's. Married almost 35 years, with 2 adult kids and 1 grandkid. I am a Christian. Have been with Spark for a while now. I rarely join challenges - have trouble keeping the pace of day to day challenges going, but I wanted to utilize the calendar goals of this Challenge. My main focus for now is to get my exercise back and tracked. I used to be good at this until last Fall. I am pretty good about food tracking. I have had a weight gain and am pretty sure it is the exercise component.

Hi I saw this challenge on one of my spark friend page and joined since I am having a hard time sticking to my calories range I feel this challenge would be a good challenge, for me to get back on track with my eating so I can reach my weight loss goal. I'm working out and tracking my meals been over my calories range for the first 2 days of the new year emoticon time to refocus and recommit emoticon .

I am 65, married, and have 5 fur babies (including my horse). I have been on SP since July 21 of 2014. I lost 37 pounds in the first six months just by eating right. I have slipped the past few months and have gained a bit. I hope to eat healthier this year. I need consistency in planning meals. I have arthritic thumbs, back and knees. I hope to learn to stay focused on my goals through this challenge! This is the second time I'm going through this challenge.

Tell us a little bit about your goals and what brought you here.

Hi - my name is Estela and I'm 55 married to a wonderful guy for 36 years with 3 adult children and 8 grandchildren. My goal this year is to start taking care of myself and lose about 90 pounds. I have spend my entire adult life taking care of children and neglected myself. I don't even know how to spent time on myself so this will be a new experience. My husband and I are empty nesters now and we're looking forward to living a different lift and picking up some hobbies.

Happy New Year everyone!

I was excited to find this challenge. I need some pushes in the right direction as I work to get back on track after a year of goofing around!

I live and work in NE Brazil. Generally I eat well with fresh, wholesome foods, but I've got to start concentrating on more exercise as I age!

Hi to all, This is the first time I have done this challenge. Have been a Spark member for 10 years. The last few years I have been mostly off Spark. I want to get back and find some motivation so I am joining this team.

I have been a member of WW for several years and not having luck with that. I did have luck before with Spark so I hope it will continue.

I am from Illinois, have two boys, 2 daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren. I lost my husband in April of 2013 just before celebrating 47 years of marriage. Was hoping to get to 50 but God had other plans. Am learning to live as a single.

Am looking for motivation and inspiration on this site and this team. Wish me luck.

I am new here...saw the alert in my email and I normally just delete and move on...this time I thought what the hey, why not? I usually dont keep up with sparkpeople page because it's just to much information to put in and I work graveyard shift.I promised myself not to make a weight loss resolution..actually mine is to be more positive...I get very cranky and cold hearted sometimes...okay a lot of times...that being said I am here and I do need to drop 50lbs.I know that when I workout everyday I feel good and my attitude is better, but I get lazy and caught up in life and want sleep. so I need more people that are postive to help push me along whether its a gentle persuasion or a kick in the rump.

I'm Kathie. First thing, my faith is strong. I am married and live in Wisconsin and I don't work anymore outside of the home. I have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 parakeets, and a little dog (who my husband bought for me to help me get through the cancer treatments.) I had Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2009, but now I am a 7 year survivor and loving life. I like to crochet and spend time on Sparkpeople. I joined on Dec. 6th, and so far progress is going well. I look forward to interacting more on the teams that I have joined so far and gaining more friends along the way. At first I was skeptical about all of this, but I must say, I am losing some weight and feeling very positive now. emoticon

Day one of this challenge, my name is Candi and I live in N.W. lower Mi. in the middle of the "baby finger" as we call our beautiful county. I'm 71 years young and love to work out and also love these little challenges, they tend to keep me on my toes. I figure that any day I wake up on the right side of the dirt is a great day. My hobbies are walking anywhere in my area, camping in our seasonal camper on the other side of the state, reading and gardening. I have been married for 53+ years to the same man and we have 3 adult children and six GK's also adults. I would like to wish you all a a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Happy New Year! Day one for me. I'll be 62 in February, have started and stopped many times and have a tendency to go all or nothing. I think this challenge will really help! Every time we fall off the wagon, we take some new knowledge with us of the process and of ourselves.

Hello everyone. I appreciate these posts because I know I am not alone. I have a lot of work to do. Among the most important is to slow down and learn to love myself. I am 61, overweight, and lost. My goal for the week is to take 15 minutes every day to meditate and bask in joy of being alive. emoticon

I'm 71 and after three years in surgery and recovery -- a long time -- I'm getting stronger. In fact, I can't believe I've committed to the 10,000 steps daily and 30 minutes exercise daily. I can do them both; in fact, I'm almost there. In the past I could only do water aerobics because I was in pain and weak, but I'm so much stronger, thanks to a lot of prayers and hard work..I never thought I would want to exercise again, but I'm there --- almost. Still very lazy, though.

Will try not to talk a lot, but you can see I do go on.

BTW, I'm an old maid -- never married, no children, all alone, except for a sister, brother, and my sister's wonderful children and grandchildren.

As I get stronger I hope to get a dog, sell some property I no longer need, and "unofficially adopt" some children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.

Good luck to everyone on the challenge. The team is made up of people who want to get better every day, really.

Hope I can stick to it. My name is Mary Merth, but I am often called --

Starr

we are all on here to support one another. If it was easy everyone would be slim.
We just have to focus on what is best for us, and believe me, I am not a feminist fireball,
(NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE WHO IS) I am just saying if we do not take care of us,
how will we be able to deal with family and life issues.

My husband is a retired veteran, has a lot of health issues and I have a couple myself,
so I have to take care of me in order to keep him healthy...His triple bypass, lung surgery,
knee & shoulder surgeries x 3, various other things keep me on my toes.....but I believe,
this is my year.

Hi, I am Kathy and I have been a long time sparkperson. 2016 has been a rough year for me starting with my job being very stressful, my husband having a heart attack which resulted in a double bypass. The physical and mental changes he is going thru really is putting me in a rough place. I also ended up quitting my job of 12 years and have the long term goal of becoming a Vet Tech. Along with all of this my weight has really gone up and doing the yo yo with trying to loose it. I believe that this Challenge will get my on the right track

Hi I am pat. I am a longstanding sparker. Married for 25 years with 3 adult kids. One of which is special needs and keeps me hopping and on my toes. I turned 56 last year. I only have nearly give or take 44 or so pounds to lose. I have a few health challenges. Recently I injured my foot and got cellulitis in my foot and could not exercise for a while I need to be consistent and not let life knock me off my game. I have found that using a fitness journal helps me and keeps me accountable. I am preparing a new one for the new year. Best wishes to all of us. I can relate to some of you here life has a way of happening. I am determined to overcome no matter what.

Hi Everyone: I've been up and down the scales for years. I just turned 59. I am going to put all I can into this year to try to get closer to a healthy weight before I turn 60!! My problem is that I don't STICK to it!! I'll do really good with eating, exercising and participating with Sparkpeople.com and then something happens and I go back to the unhealthy lifestyle. I want to use this team to gather the tools to make realistic goals and strive to achieve them.

Hi, I'm Donna. I live in central PA with my husband of 27 years. Together we have 5 children and 8 grandchildren from 16 to 8. I also broke my foot this August and am still recovering from that, although I think it is about 85% well. Exercise has been almost non-existent since then so I'm looking to get back to the gym, I belong to Planet Fitness. If the weather is ok I'm planning on going tomorrow morning as I don't have to be at work until noon.

I've had several major injuries in 2016 - broken ankle, broken hip, and broken shoulder. On top of that my mom died just before Thanksgiving. Needless to say my fitness and nutrition levels were way off schedule. In 2017, I want to get more fit and eat better.

I am a grandmother of a wonderful 13 year old grandson. I volunteer at an elementary school (retired teacher) and work part-time for a local charity.

Hi, I'm Nan 61, and retired, living with elderly mum 86, who still does all the cooking which I don't want to,stop her doing while she's able. She does the easy housework, plus the laundry from washing machine to ironed and put away. I do the heavy housework and keep the garden.
I have the same 2 stone I had to lose this time last year. I did manage to lose one of them up to June last year but it has found me.

wow David - glad you are ok ............

I am fluffy - been a sparker for years - just love this site .. this looks a good accountable team to start a new year with .. I am on the keto diet and lost a little weight - but my body seems to like where it was ... I do go to the gym 3 xs a week for strength training - no major weight - just moving the body and using all the muscles - I also love the spark & WATP videos , it is easy to say I will do it later - so a push is good .. I am doing the 5% winter challenge again - weight dropped and I was a looser for the week for a nice change ... but with out changing anything but thyroid meds weight is higher than it was ........ still less than started with so thats good ..

Hi. My name is Georgann and I am 65 years young and a grandmother and great grandmother. My husband and I raise, show and breed miniature horses. They are our dream come true. I have been a member of SP off and on for many years and had lost over 60 pounds but am having trouble getting the other 50 off. Every year I seem to end it at 232 lbs. During the year I get down to 216 but can't get any lower. I have to start tracking my food and getting more exercise in besides the hour and half I get while doing farm chores every morning. I am a Reiki Level 2 Practitioner and I take Tai Chi classes once a week which I love doing both but I find that I lose my motivation and energy easily. I am hoping that being back on SP will be the cure for that. Looking forward to the coming new year with a new attitude.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

I did really well with SP a few years ago back now after two ankle surgeries and two house moves I am back again packing most of the weight I had lost. The first thing I have to do is stop drinking 2 diet sodas a day, all they do is make me hingrier. Going to limit myself to 2 a week.

Jan
Looking forward to a whole new me somewhere in my future

I'm David. Month after month you tell yourself....nows the time to start, to turn everything around... Well my time ran out 2days ago. Getting ready for work I really started to feel bad. I shrugged it off as I've been fighting the "crud" that's been going around. I sat down soaked with sweat, my head and chest pounding. I called work then my wife at her work to say something is wrong and that I'm going to the ER. My choice was wise. Once I got there the nurse in triage called a "code" and I was surrounded by Drs and staff. I was told my bp was 200/100 pulse 170. They got me in a room started ivs , ended up using 5 cardiac drugs to slow my heart. Hooked me up to a defibulator. Dr said" this is going to feel very weird, try to relax". He then told my wife they were giving me meds that would stop my heart for just a moment to put it back in a regular rythem. I felt I was watching everything but didn't feel real. On the last injection it felt like a curtain had dropped. I couldn't breath, and then everything was back. This had been the worst experience in my life ( I'll be 58 in October,,). In the back of my mind this was all leading up to a slow "train wreck". I always knew by not taking better care of myself that one day something bad could or would happen but, you never really think it would. I have tried to live a good life. Make mistakes and learn from them. I never became anyone important, or did anything spectacular.... But, I've come to realize just how quickly the time each of us has been given is soooo incredibly short. I was once again lucky but realise that we are only given so many tries. I know this is all more than I wanted to first post but felt it was important to share. Time is not our friend. We must take what we are given not for granted as use it to our best ability. The Drs put me on possible long turn meds. I make an appt tomorrow with both s MD. And cardiologist. This is my Day #1.

Hi, I'm 1EVE4me... Thank you for the TEAM GOODIE!! I've lost 40 pounds before with SP - I used to weigh 218.... and need to lose another 40. I'm working on setting boundaries with other people who want to feed me!! I'm doing this by getting my SO to take care of HIS health - he joined the YMCA and worked out 4 days last week. I'm also telling him not to cook me dinner this week 6 out of the 7 days. (Monday is our anniversary so it's fine to celebrate that within limits)... Thank you for being realistic and having me in your group!

PS I don't usually keep up with my SP email - please feel free to write a note on my page though because I love hearing from you!

Hi, I'm Faye. I'm here to continue with my goals and I figured why not this place. Sparkpeople has helped me alot in the past with my weight loss goals. SO for today this is Day 1 for me and here are my two goals for the next 2 weeks.

1.) Eat 6-8 fruit and veggies a day
2.) Strength train 2-3 times a week

These are 2 hard ones for me to do so here I go.

Hello. I'm Cassidy and I am trying to lose the weight I gained while my daddy was sick and then through his passing. I have gained 50 lbs since 2012 and I'm tired of being this weight. I know I will feel a lot better physically and emotionally once I get back to a healthy weight. emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm Melrie, and I love challenges because they hold you accountable to yourself and others and give directions for the healthier choices.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Phil 2:3-4.

Hi, Donita here; I'm an Okie bon and bred. Married for 42 years and mother of two grown girls. Nanny to 5 fabulous grands!! 3 live in Virginia and haven't seen them in about 9 months.
Fortunate that I only suffer with knee pain and so far not on any meds for health. But I know if I don't get some weight off I will be dealing with declining health. I want to be around to watch those grandbabies grow up and take part in their school activities.
We can do this together.

Hello, I am Paula a 49 year old married mother of two. Jake 21 and Sarah 20.

Currently weight in at 54 kilo's I aim to maintain at 50 kilo's and maintain at that..

I have joined my local Weight Watchers and attend meetings each Wednesday.

I know I am not obese by any means but still for me I have too much weight on for my hips to carry around.

I have slight hip osteoarthritis in both hips. Doctors and specialists told me a few years ago I would need to have 2 hip replacements which I refused to have, or at least put off as long as possible. I am doing things naturally, fixing my diet, weight loss, natural supplements and the like.

I also have Scoliosis in my back have had it since I was a teenager. I wore a back brace then for 2 years which prevented it getting any worse.

My issues make exercising very difficult. So am unable to do much of that other than normal stuff like housework, gardening when I am able. Have just decided to give 2 aqua aerobics class that run for an hour each a go twice a week that should help with my exercise. I also wear a fit bit and have it synced to SP. I aim for 5000 steps per day but no less than 3000 steps in any given day. Unless my hip arthritis is really playing up.

My goals to lose my weight are:

1. Eat three times daily only no snacks.
2. Allow 4 - 5 hours between each of the three meals.
3. Eat correct portion sizes.
4. Stop totally or limit my wheat intake.
5. Count or track my steps and aim to do no less than 3000 steps in a day. (I Have my fitbit flex synced to sparkpeople)
6. Get 7 - 8 hours sleep each night.
7. Drink 7 - 8 glasses of water each day.
8. Will not drink soda / soft drink.
9. Cut out sugar. Consume only sugar of the natural kind found in fruits and honey.
10. Have a vision board with positive quotes, pictures and affirmations to do with my goals on it.
11. Exercise when I can, if my arthritic hips allow and I am not in pain doing so.

Following the steps above you can and will lose weight without any extra exercise than what you would no normally do in a day maintaining your home and garden.

I try to eat healthy and organically where possible and avoid all preservatives and additives and processed food where and when I can. Plus I am wheat free not Gluten free & trust me when I tell you there is a difference between the two because there is.

I Drink reverse osmosis water from my water filter. Use Australian made and owned cleaning products that are non toxic and without any harsh chemicals.

I have interests in candles, reading, feng shui, computers, positive thinking, spirituality, new age thinking, Leptin Diet, soccer and gardening & beginning Sewing / quilting to name a few.

Remember it's not a diet but a healthy lifestyle!

Hey everyone,
I am a 30 year old mom looking to get back on track. I have found myself needing to make changes and needing to loose at least 40lbs to get back within a healthy range. I came across this challenge and thought it would be a good place to start. Starting small and working toward the overall goal of being healthier and weighing substantially less by July! Here's to starting or starting over and reaching the health goals we want!
