I haven't been posting since coming back to SP. But I am starting to become more active on this site. I have shed 11 lbs and am walking again not much between arthritis in my knee and my weight I don't want to push too hard but I went from a daily average of less than 1000 steps a day to about 3000 since joining. My 1st goal is to be below 300 lbs before Thanksgiving.

Not so you'd notice.... with an arthritic knee and a very painful degeneritive disc problem, it's too painful. After some significant weight loss, I'll try again. My goal is to walk a block pain-free. emoticon

Hello - I'm Shelea (pronounced sha-LEE-a), and I've been on SP tracking for about a week. I've finally decided to stay - things I start in the enthusiasm of the moment tend to get brushed aside/procrastinated about.

My downfll is pizza. I am powerless...etc. Having just one slice undermined a 37 lb weight loss last year, and now I'm going to have to make up for lost momentum.

I'm starting at 337. I don't have a reliable scale, so I'm going to have to take its best effort, which is now at 331.

I don't do diets well, due to a $150 per month food budget (I live solely on Soc. Sec.), so I have had to determine what is best by myself. That has turned out to be eating when I'm truly physically hungry, and bouncing around from protein to carb in successive days to keep my metabolism guessing. I might have salad for breakfast, and maybe scrambled eggs for dinner... regimentation has never been my strong suit. For instance, pretty soon I'm going to go fix a day-long snack set - lengthwise slices of potato baked until 'not raw,' then sweet white onion discs on top and back to bake until onions are soft... then a fairly thick slice of tomato with some shredded cheese and fresh cilantro on top. All this goes back in the oven until the cheese melts. I make about 8 of these slices (two large potatoes) and snack on them all day.

I'm a water drinker so I don't need to keep track of that.... I have maybe 15 8-oz glasses per day, sometimes with Walmart's 'apple' drink powder - it takes just like granny smith apples. (It's also yummy in plain greek-style yogurt!)

One day last week, all I had all day was one 35 oz carton of Fage nonfat greek yogurt and a fresh pear. It felt indulgent, but the calories added up to around 700. A few days before, I pigged out on roast pork - no trimmings, just roast pork...about 2000 calories worth.

I do this only with things I REALLY crave...I don't talk myself into anything - that way lies pizza...

Any success I have always comes down to this - If I'm not physically hungry, it's merely 'appetite' and that gets me into trouble every time, 'cause I have an appetite for ANYTHING.

Hi, I'm Tanya. I started my weight loss journey the beginning/middle of June, but only joined SparkPeople towards the end of June/beginning of July following the prodding of my friend who is on this journey with me. I had this GroupOn for a weight lose coach at an all female gym since February. The initial intention was to start the journey then to hopefully lose some weight by my 20-year high school reunion, which is coming up the end of this month. But I procrastinated it as I do with everything I don't want to do. As the end of May approached, I was utterly disgusted with myself, especially when I went to storage to swap out my winter clothes for my spring/summer clothes (did I mention I procrastinate?). Out of the clothes I pulled out, I could maybe fit into 10% of them.. And then I was 2 months away from d-day and I hadn't made any strides. Not to mention, i was a month and a half away from my 6-month check-up w/ my PCP, who I live in fear of. I was warned that I was not allowed to cancel my appointment to avoid the conversation about my weight. To this day I'm really not too sure how she caught onto the fact that I cancelled my last appointment with her to avoid the lecture. And even though i dont like how I look, i couldnt help but think 177lbs at 5'5" is not necessarily something for anyone to overly freak out about, but add a congenital heart defect and familiar history of diabetes and you get lots of folks freaking out with even a 20 lb gain.

So now I'm on this journey hoping I am at least 10lbs down by the reunion (I lost 6.6 already). But my sights are set much higher..to the long run. And the focus is not on just the pounds to lose but a whole self makeover, inside and out. It seems I need to redesign the way I approach life because all of it (the weight gain, procrastination, tardiness, lack of energy, sleepiness) are all interconnected. And they are getting in my way to being the person I want to be and achieving the things I want to achieve.

Hi all, I'm Charla and I'm ready to do it this time. I've been sparking for 8 days and I've lost 5 pounds but not officially (my weigh day is Tuesday). I'm making small changes to start as I just has open surgery for a hernia a few weeks ago. Shooting for 30 minutes of exercise 3 days a week and have eaten in my guidelines for the last week. Once I am healed up a bit more, I'll add more exercise to my plate...shooting for the end of July. I did WW Online for a while but never found a lot of support there. That's why I like SP....so many people have stopped by my page to encourage me. I have 70 more pounds to get to a weight that I am comfortable with. My goal is to be healthier and more at peace with myself by my 46th birthday next July.

As the old song goes, it only takes a spark...to get a fire going. I've got that spark!

Oh, the places I'll go.

Hey Jordan!
Welcome and Congratulations for joining SP and learning how to eat healthy for life. If you can memorize WW points, you'll get this calorie thing in no time. Trust me! :) Plus you'll be better educated about EXACTLY what you're putting in your body. If you are honest with tracking everything that passes your lips and how much you shake your booty, you can't fail! :)

Enjoy the journey...holler if you need anything...and Have an amazing weekend!

Hello CRIM!
Welcome back and Congratulations! I always tell my clients once they lose the weight that if they haven't made the connection between moving and nutrition, they will get sloppy or "cocky" I say and think "I'll NEVER gain it back!" WHOO HOO!....but we usually learn the hard way. :) YOU HAVE BEEN THERE...YOU KNOW WHAT'S POSSIBLE...YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT WILL TAKE! YOU HAVE THIS IN THE BAG GIRLFRIEND! :) Experience is a blessing and a curse sometimes...take what you know + a positive attitude and YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
Enjoy your journey!
Holler if you need anything!

Hi Nicole!
Welcome to Sparkpeople and Congratulations on all your hardwork and dedication to changing your life! I think most of us have tried all the wrong things and right things, but until we change for good, it's all just experience lol LIVING is not about going BACK to bad habits :) LIVING is about balance and making the healthy choices 80%+ of the time by habit...not even having to think about them anymore! You'll get there! You have a great attitude and that is most of the battle! Enjoy your journey here and please let me know if I can be of any help!
Go get 'em!

Hi, I'm Lucy, I'm nearly 28(next week) I'm from England, I had 64lbs to loose and so far lost 7 of them. I am a SAHM, I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and have been struugeling to fit in exercise because my husband works shifts/is away with work alot and I have no family near me but I am not using that as an excuse anymore I really want to be slim fit and healthy.

A few years ago I was 112lbs and ran London marathon in 2009. I then got married and had 2 children and before I knew it I was 190lbs and doing no exercise, I decided enough was enough and now I'm doing something about it.

Hello Everyone! I am new to Spark People, but am enjoying it already! My name is Nicole and I'm 22 with 44 lbs to lose! I have tried a lot of diets and lifestyle changes, some worked and others didn't. The biggest issue I have had is living and not gaining it all back (and usually then some). I'm going slow and steady to win this battle, I know it will be worth it in the end!

Hi Ani!
Welcome to Sparkpeople! Congratulations for making a healthy choice and doing this the right way! No diet! Learning how much and what to eat will change your life! Be kind and patient with yourself. Take each day as it comes but try to preplan as much of your meal plan as you can and move more today than yesterday while resting 1-2 days! You can do it!

This time you know you can lose it...but you will educate yourself on how to keep it off for life! You will love yourself and be healthy fit and strong and inspire others!
Go get it done! Enjoy the journey and please let me know if I can help with anything!

Hi Susan!
Welcome and congratulations! It's great that something yucky can actually cause positive things like being aware of what you're feeding your body and knowing the effects of what you put into it! It's amazing. I do tend to recommend the book The Eat Clean Diet for people because it is what I believe the way you want to eat for life no matter if it's to fight disease, weight, or anything else. :) Keep it simple. 2/3 of your plate stuff that comes out of the ground, and 1/3 other stuff (usually stuff that walks or swims...lol)
Have a great journey!
You'll get it. Just take it day by day!

Hi all!

I'm Jordan. I'm 26, going back to school & working a full time job. I have 2 pets & an amazing boyfriend.

This isn't my first attempt at losing weight. I've looked around SP before but never followed it. So this is my first time giving SP an honest try. I was nervous about counting calories (I did WW & know points values for items off the top of my head). Hopefully I'll get used to it quickly.

I hope I can find lots of support in this group. That's one thing I'm needing right now.

Hi I am also returning to spark people. The last time I was here an stuck with it I met my goal. Then I stopped exercising, forgot about spark people and in about 2 years gained it all back and then some. I never made the life style change. Instead I exercised a lot and never changed my eating habits so when I stopped exercising it never occurred to me that sweets all the time would be so bad.

So I am back and this time it will be different.

Hey All,

I'm Kristi. Hoping to lose about 30-40 pounds. Would be happy with 30, be over the moon if I lost 40 and then keep it off. I workout 3 days a week at a gym and also at home.

I lost 25 pounds with Weight Watchers, but quit that in November due to many reasons, but mostly cost and the leader not being available for support. It got the point where I was just going to get weighed on their wheelchair scale and not getting anything out of the meetings.

I've maintained (by keeping track of my measurements) and we just installed my late grandma's wheelchair lift in my room which has a scale on it. As soon as I get a sling for it (hopefully this week or next) I can finally weigh without my chair and most of my clothes and shoes on. Be nice to have an accurate number to go off of. Pretty excited to be able to weigh in when I want to!!

Hello . .My name is Christopher! Yes . . I am a male! I mean that with all respect and no disrespect. I just see a lot of women on this site and few men!

My story goes back a few years when I had bilateral hernia repair and then broke my back in two locations. Needless to say . . I gained a lot of weight and I was not too conscious of food value as I was an athlete and could eat most anything with abandon. Then after being injured and bedridden . . I gained 120 pounds . . I almost doubled my weight nd I was almost as big around as I was tall!

It is day six for me here and I like this site!

Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie, and I've been a member of Sparkpeople off and on since 2006, but this is the first time I've ever truly committed myself to following the program, and I'm ready to get this weight off once and for all! I have 160 pounds to lose, so I have a very long road ahead of me, but that's okay. I'm ready!

I look forward to getting to know everyone here. Best of luck to all of you on your weight loss journey!

Hi!

My name is Emily, and I have joined this group as I have recommitted myself to weight loss! I have been working a little already, and am now looking for the SparkPeople community to help further drive my motivation and support! Looking forward to meeting some great people and making friends to help each other reach our goals!

Hello everyone!! Looks like I'm coming in on the end of the week, but that's me...better late than never...backrow Baptist (actually, I'm a mid-row Methodist)...

My name is Mandy and I have joined SparkPeople before, but was never committed. I am now. I am at my highest weight and have just HAD it. I am starting with the South Beach Diet tomorrow (hopefully I can convince my hubby to do it with me). I have several health problems that I know are aggravated by my weight (PCOS and Hasimotos Thyroiditis to name the worst of the bunch). I'm serious about it this time. I'm done. I'm ready!!!

Hello all, you can call me Ani. I have been all over the weight spectrum my whole life. As the years crept by I was letting go more and more. Of myself, of the control on my own life, of happiness. Recently I've been awakened fully and realize that there is more waiting for me out there if only I wish to reach out and grab it. I've been miserable long enough, I'm SO ready. I have quite a lot to lose, 150 pounds, but I've done it before so I know I can do it again. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you lovely ladies.

hello everyone I am susan, I just got my disablity in may 2012 gained about 10 pounds because my kids said I couldn't do anything or I would loose my ssdi! Wow the doctor set me straight on that one haha. I don't really need to loose those 10 pounds 135 is my weight but I do need to start eating a diabetic menu which I am finding to be the hardest thing I have ever done! I think about it to much, things like is that to much oil, is that piece of chicken to big. I never thought about those things before

Hi everyone. My name is Jan. I'm originally from Canada (you may have guessed that from my user name) and now live in Australia. I'm having trouble making and keeping diet and fitness goals so will appreciate any encouragement I can get and hope I can offer some myself.

BIG BRIGHT STAR YOU ARE DA BOMB!!!!!!!!
I wish everyone came into this journey of self improvement with your attitude and gusto! Congratulations for GETTING IT!!! A Positive attitude and not accepting toxic negative ANYTHING in your life really is the most important thing! I can't express how excited I am for you! I didn't once hear you whine, complain, use excuses, or say the words "I hope this works"...which makes my skin crawl personally...:) If you work it works...and it's about lifestyle changes and making different choices to achieve different results.
I don't know you but I think I may have a crush on you - ha ha!!!!! What a breath of fresh air!
Enjoy your journey and holler if you need anything!!!!

Excited for your success,
Patty

Hi Susan!
Welcome and CONGRATS on seeing this as a way of life, not a diet! Educating yourself about what you put in your mouth is one of the greatest gifts you could give to yourself and loved ones! Food is the root of all health and sickness...depending on the choices you make :) Move a little more today than yesterday and eat balanced (mostly from the ground...fruit/veggies) and make sure to get enough calcium as well. :)
Enjoy your journey! Please contact me if you need anything!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Patty

Hello all!!! I am The bigbrightstar and there is no one like me! This time its all about ME! I have given so much to others that sometimes I can't even care for myself. I am overweight and I don't want to be heavy anymore. I am never giving up.Never. I am a very positive person. No matter how many times in the past I have tried to lose weight I still get up and stand tall and keep moving on. I am a happy person and I live well but I want to live better. My life is not perfect. I have problems in my life just like everyone else. I am not going to talk about my personal struggles here. I want to share my weight goals with everyone and ask alot of questions about nutrition, fitness and motivation.I just want to be better period. If you are a negative person then I am sorry but we cannot be friends but I will still send positive energy your way because I believe everyone deserves the best life possible. Don't ever think you arent deserving of everything this life has to offer because you are.I hope you are exceeding successful in your fight to lose weight. I cant wait to post my "before" pictures and the pictures I will take along the way. I hope that every dream you have comes true. I hope that you love yourself and that you truly understand your true worth and the impact you have on others in your life who love you.Dream big!!!

I was doing spark people last week and wasn't sure about it so I stopped and closed my account and then re-opened the account.

My husband and I are retired. WE have been married 35 years and in a relationship 40 years. We have a daughter who is grown and she is also doing spark people. We travel a lot so I'm not going to be real specific about where I live ect. I don't usually participate with social media.

I have had a happy life and home. My husband and I love to go places and do things. I love music and anything outside of the house.

I was a teacher, stay at home mom and had jobs in a large corporation.

I've tried WW, doing my own thing, Jenny Criag and then just doing nothing. I'm not sure why I have not been able to lose weight. I think several factors are at work against me. One is not enough good info. I think Spark People will help me get more informed about what I'm eating everyday. I really like the food tracker and have been able to keep up with my nutrition better on Spark People.

My husband and I want to enjoy a long, healthy and active retirement.

My husband retired in January 2010. We traveled most of that year. We love cruises.

January 2011-- I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was a year of hell. Surgery and chemo and lots of doctor visits. I was sick that whole year.

2012--Coping as a cancer survivor, living with uncetrainty after facing a life threatening illness, using mindfulness, Tai Chi and walking to get my head back on my shoulders.

2013-- we have traveled most of this year, doing a lot of home improvements in the meantime. Finishing an update to bathroom.

Now...I want to lose weight because I don't want to be a cancer survivor with weight related health problems. I'm motivated to lose weight and keeping it off.

Plus, I want to just feel better and live one day at a time.

I'm also on the 50+ team with 50-99 pounds to lose.
emoticon

My name is Beth, and I'm a night shifter on an IT help desk. I'm living on the east coast and trying to get started on making some healthy habits for myself. I'm about to exit my twenties and have watched my metabolism slow down over the last year or two. And, I guess it's better late than never to turn things around and start shedding a few pounds.

Hi there,
I'm a recent college graduate, and I have become a full time nanny while I try to decide where I want my life to go from here. I have, over the past year, gained at least fifteen pounds, and I'm very tired of feeling badly about myself. So, this is officially my beginning to getting myself out of this mess.

Hello NIKAAAJ!
Welcome to SP and I am glad the support you had in the past was helpful! No ise feeling regret or sorry. It's over and it's behind you! Look forward with excitement and anticipation of success. You CAN do this! Congratulations for wanting to get healthy at 19! The sooner you start making progress, the easier your future will be! Please ask for help if you need anything and remember that there are good choices and not so good choices, but don't deprive yourself...just control and eat the good stuff more than the treats! :) If you need suggestions, that's my specialty...But balance and more stuff from the ground than out of a package or a drive through window! :)

Have an amazing journey!!!!! I'll be here cheering you on! xoxox

Hello!
I actually started SparkPeople in November of the last year, and the support I received particularly on my SparkTeam was immense. But still, I quit after a while - and I still feel sorry about it.
That's why I'm trying to start anew and slowly work my way to a healthy lifestyle. I'm 19, a student, and I really have problems with managing my time, so that's the reason I turn to junk food way too often - not really a good habit.
1 July seemed a really nice day to start anew - so I still hope to meet you all and wish everybody here lots of luck on your way to a new you emoticon

It looks like I'm the first one on here. I guess, as usual, I'm a jump in and get this done person. I just need encouragement to keep it going.
I'm 40 years old, a working mother of 3, wife of a type 2 diabetic, and youth cheer coach. I've never had to exercise to maintain a reasonable weight until I quit smoking a little over a year ago, since then I've gained about 40 pounds.
It's time to get this under control. I can't stand having to work to paint my toenails. I'm looking forward to encouraging others and being encouraged.

I can do all things THROUGH Christ who gives me strength!

Mrs. Q

Hello New Sparkies & Sparklers!!!
Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS on your new journey. Well done on choosing a HEALTHY way to get healthy, fit and strong! This is NOT a diet thank goodness! This is a lifestyle training program in my humble opinion. Please feel free to contact me and Helen (Silver1369) with any questions you may have. Check out our Sparkpages and set up yours as well so we can award you with goodies :) WHOO HOO!!!!

My name is Patty. I am American but living in Middle Earth...land of Hobbits and Elves :) That's right! New Zealand! Thanks to online dating back in 2006...moved here for a cute boy! I have worked in the weight loss and fitness industry for many years and it's my passion. My specialty lies in obese and nutrition. I have been through my own struggles (read my sparkpage) and am still on my journey! I am here to help...just holler! I am a day ahead of the states...but I still get your mail HA HA HA

Enjoy your journey! Be kind to yourself and patient with yourself. Learn how to change your unhealthy choices to healthy ones and keep this weight off for life. Track everything that passes your lips and move your booty a little more today than you did yesterday...but also know that REST is just as important to see positive changes in your body. Lastly...believe it IS possible. DO NOT USE THE WORD HOPE...it allows you to accept failure. COMMIT to getting it done and achieving what you are setting out to achieve! No matter what bumps or forks in the road or roadblocks occur...you WILL get there if you want it badly enough!
