Hiya! We recently adopted a rescued great dane Jasper aka Jazz. He turned 2 on 6 December but he's like a puppy in that his owner kenneled him 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week and the world is all new to him. He is a big goofy, good boy and we are loving him. He already has happy tail (why do they call it that; nothing happy about it). Today is the first day that I'm home alone with him since hubby is a USMC who is currently a professor in Washington DC and college daughter headed back to Vermont today to school. He is lonely poor boy.

I just KNEW there would be a spark team for Dane lovers!

Kal - Maryland

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, favorite cocktail in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming holy sh*t - WHAT A RIDE!

Hello, new here to Sparkpeople. I have a 4 year old Great Dane Harley Doo. He is my baby! I love the breed and I love talking about them! Just wanted to say Hi!

Do not reward yourself with food, you are not a dog!

LOL! No way these 3 are sharing our bed! Thor is average size for a Dane...small to some. The other 2 are probably going to be bigger than him judging from the size of their paws!

I do try to walk them a fair bit but sometimes that is impossible. That may be the case for the nocturnal chewing but I think it may have more to do with the fact that we have 2 puppies and each wants what the other has and that makes it into a game. One grabs the bed then the other does and they pull til one gives up or it rips apart...

I'm still hoping it might have to do with teething..I'm not sure at what age they have all their permanent teeth. Right now they are 8 months.

Walks, runs and dog parks. Make them want to sleep at night. Our 1.5 old Bella used to need toy after rawhide to distract her. I walk her in the morning, the wife at night and the only bed problem we have now is getting her to share some when I get home from work. I got lucky in that my little girl is small and incredilbly athletic so I can take her on runs, I know that is not usually the case though.

Hi there,

My name is Cathy and I have 3 Great Danes. Thor is a 7 year old male mantle, Kianna is an 8 month old female Halequin. Her sister Jade is also an 8 months old.

I started this group so that other people that have great danes could have a place to talk about issues that may be specific to the breed of dog or just to discuss anything else that comes to mind.

Like right now I am having a problem with my puppied chewing their beds. Because of their size it could be detrimental to their health to lie on the hard floor without any type of cushioning...problem is they only chew at night when I am in bed and not around to supervise.

I can't stay up all night to watch them, have tried different beds and sprays with no success.
