Hello! I just made my own personal efforts earlier this week to get more sleep and then I just discovered this team today! I've shifted my video chat time with my long distance boyfriend because 5 hours of sleep just wasn't cutting it. :) now I get 7 and so far I'm very happy. But it's still hard when I leave the house at 5 am and don't get home until 5:30pm every day so my waking hours at home are only 3.5 in order to get 7 hours of sleep. :( Que Sera.

Hello All
MY name is Shamika and I have been on Spark for some time now. I want to be apart of this challenge because I never feel like I have a proper nights sleep. I am hoping that the next four weeks will change that!

Hello--I'm Sara. I look forward to completing the Sleep Challenge. I've always been a big fan of sleeping (sounds weird to say but it is true) but my sleep quality has changed in the six years since my boys were born and with all the sleep interrupters that come with raising small children. A good night's sleep is a treat and I really want to change that.

I am ready to jump in!

My name is Patti and I've been on SP since July 2009!
I struggle with getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night, especially on weeknights when I have to get up for work. This has been effecting my work schedule, since I am usually late to work due to lack of sleep and wanting to sleep longer in the mornings.
I am looking forward to this challenge and trying new methods to improve me sleep quantity and quality!

Hi, I'm Mandy. I've had sleep problems for about 3 years now. I currently take a prescription sleep pill (but am convinced it's a placebo because it doesn't seem to work very often! hahaha). My biggest problem is my own anxiety problems. Sometimes I can't fall asleep, sometimes I wake up 2-5 times a night, and almost always I snap awake like someone clapped their hands in my face. Last week my doc sent me for a sleep study and that wasn't too successful. It took me almost 2 hours to fall asleep and they got me for about 2.5 hours before I woke up and asked to leave. I hope this challenge can maybe help me with some of my sleep issues.

Do you choose to simply know the path, or do you choose to walk it?

Hi! My name is Sandie and I've been a Sparkmember since January 2007, actively participating since January 2009. I fight my sleep all the time and, once I do go to sleep, will usually toss and turn. I'm lucky my hubby sleeps like a rock and doesn't notice this.

I'm here to commit to the discipline of good sleep habits so I can retrain my body and mind and shed these bad habits. Consistently getting eight hours during a stable block of time would be wonderful.

I am glad to have found this team!

Hi, I'm Barb, and I followed a couple of good Spark friends over to this challenge: WALKINGANNIE and SLENDERELLA have completed it already.

I love sleep, and with Winter only a short season of Autumn away in the Northern hemisphere... I approach hibernation mode. My goal is to pick up whatever more tips there might be to make Winter survivable, hopefully well-rested and alert!

Hi. My name is MaryAnn. I am 52 and married. Being an epilectic means that getting 7-8 hours sleep a night is crucial. Increased stress and decreased sleep can lead to increased seizure activity.

But saying and doing are 2 very different things. I typically only sleep 5 1/2-6 1/2 hours a night now (sometimes less than that).

Working out in the evening helped for a short while, then old habits kicked in. Hoping that this challenge works. I really need a good night's emoticon -for about a month!! emoticon

What a great challenge. Knowing I need 7-8 hours of sleep and getting it are two different things!
Started a pulmonary rehab exercise program this week, so with the sleep challenge, I'll be running in marathons soon. Well, I never could do that, even before I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Nothing to stop me from doing the best I can, though!

hello fellow sleep challenged folks! I have always been a light sleeper and find it a challenge to get a full nights' sleep when my partner is snoring, grinding his teeth and tossing and turning all night. He seems to think this is all normal and after MANY arguements he is determined to NOT go see a doctor about his snoring...that is it my issue not his. Sure I am a light sleeper but I seem to get plenty of rest when I sleep in the spare room!
Less than 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes...once I do fall asleep after listening to the snoring next to me, I wake up periodically through the night thirsty or having to go to the washroom. If I get 6 hours of sleep I am lucky.

Hi Everyone!! I'm Theresa and this challenge couldn't have come at a better time for me b/c I am CONSTANTLY tired and I don't really know why! I recently graduated from college where I was the Queen of All-Nighters and I've just always been a night owl... surviving on just a few hrs of sleep. But now that I'm working full-time, I just can't seem to get it together. Most nights I get about 7hrs of sleep but I still struggle to wake up each morning and this feeling of fatigue last up until I get home from work. This is KILLING my workout habits b/c I'm so tired that all I want to do is lie down instead of getting on the treadmill!

I'm hoping this challenge can help me, and all of you, to finally get the rest that we need!! emoticon

I realized a few years ago a good night sleep is so important. After 8 hours of sleep, I would fall asleep while driving to work or at the stop lights. I didn't understand why I was always sleepy. Well, my doctor ordered a sleep study for me (this was my third sleep study) and found I have a form of sleep apnea. My snoring was waking me up 191 times per night. My husband had often complained about my snoring but who knew it was actually keeping me from a good night sleep.
Now, I use a sleep apnea mask at night. Immediately I noticed the difference in my quality of sleep. I no longer get sleepy during the day. I have more energy and feel alot better. Now, my goal is to go to bed early inorder to get 8 hours of sleep. My problem is I stay up too late, last night I went to bed at 1:23am and got up at 7:27am. That's only 6 hours of sleep. I really want to get a minimum of 7 -8 hours of sleep every night.

Hi! My name is Janet and live in MA...I joined the time to improve my sleeping habits...I tend to take everyday as it comes and adapt to what happens along the way....planning my day never works out according to plan...yet everything seems to fall into place...I've noticed lately that both hubby & I tend to fall asleep on the sofa watching TV...not a good sign of a good sleeping habit....need to make some changes

Hi - I am Faye from upstate New York. I do okay sleep-wise the vast majority of the time. However I don't feel really rested either.

For the past 9 years I have had to get up much earlier than I was used to and I have yet to successfully and for the long haul been able to adjust my going to bed/sleep time.. I love the night - the quiet, its sounds, the peace that falls over everything and find it hard to turn that off.. If I were to get 8 hours I'd have to go to bed at 9:30 and I just can't bring myself to do that but I know I have to get there before the 11:30-12 that I am doing now...

I'm glad to be here with you all - I'm sure it will be an interesting month! Good luck to us all!

Hi, my name is Sheila. I have had sleep issues for years now. I usually go to sleep okay (not always) but wake up about 4 hours later and then toss and turn. This is mostly due to being uncomfortable and not being able to find a comfortable position. Once I toss and turn then my mind starts to work overtime and so sleep is off the table. Think we need a new mattress but that is an expensive undertaking and we are retired.

Hi I'm Hari and have been having trouble with disturbed sleep for several years now. I don't even remember how long it's been anymore. I hope this team will help me to find ways to change things. I usually go to bed early (between 9-10pm) then I usually wake at least once to pee. I toss and turn alot, like I am fighting in my sleep! And I rarely wake up in the morning feeling rested. Please help!!

Hi, I am Claude from France. I hardly ever sleep more than 6 hours a night and in any case my sleep is broken. I wake up several times a night, not necessarily to go to the toilet. I have always been sleeping little and the only thing that can get me to sleep is to eat something. Actually anything, even very little to eat, will do the job.
Now I don't get stressed by lack of sleep. I occasionally get up and do something to pass the time until I'm feeling sleepy again. As I am retired, it doesn't matter if I stay longer in bed, I don't have a specific time when I have to wake up.
I have never been able to go to sleep early, have always been a night owl.

hey all, i am here because i have had a life long struggle with anxiety and depression--and self image obsession. about six months ago, i was obsessed and reached an all time low and ended up hospitalized. i weighed about 118 and my hight is 5'10. at one point in my life during a severe bout of depression, i ballooned to 215lbs... scary. that has never ever happened again... once i lost that weight, i was pretty steady at 150-160 for at least 5 years. i have been forced by family to eat more and feel i have been sabotaged with bad foods--so im trying to get back on track eating in a healthy way to losing the extra weight i dont need-- just about 10ish pounds... and to retrain myself to take care of myself.
now... about the sleep- 4 years of chronic pain and my ever pressent anxiety have kept me awake for ages-- sleep medication doesn't work. i am desperate and willing to try anything.____+

this too shall pass...

Hi! Sometimes I feel weak during my early morning workouts. I know that not getting enough sleep can lead you to eat more calories throughout the day, so I want to change my sleep habits for good!

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah and I'm hoping that with the help of this challenge I will soon be on my way to better sleep patterns. Right now I get about 11 hours of sleep a night and yet am tired all day. I'm hoping by keeping a journal and adjusting my vitamin intake, I will be able to have more energy and get up earlier than lunch time!

Hello everyone. I'm in a vicious cycle of going to bed late, waking up late, being tired all day, eating high carb snacks to stay awake, etc. I believe if I can get at least 7 hours each night, I can function better, eat better, have more energy to exercise in the evenings. I'm looking forward to completing this challenge.

Hi Everybody!

I am tired of being less than alert during the day! I try for 7+ hours of sleep per night and usually can manage at least 6.5 hours. I am hoping that by joining this team challenge I can focus on my sleep habits and get 8 hours per night of restful sleep!

Joined challenge yesterday and am anxious to start my "sleep journal" tonight (didn't have time to read everything yesterday)! My biggest issue is not being able to get to bed til late (usually it's at LEAST 11 p.m. and usually midnight or LATER) and we have to be up by 5 a.m. (only time to exercise and son starts school by 7 a.m.)... AND sometimes I am awake many times during the night on top of that! I'm EXCITED about trying to learn some "tricks" to help... emoticon

Hi folks. This challenge is just what I need. I truly think not always getting a good night's sleep is what is keeping me from succeeding in losing weight and keeping it off. I already 'think I know everything' about how to improve sleep, but I know I've got a lot to learn.

Hi all! I've been trying this challenge for a couple of days now, and am quite surprised at the sleep I've been getting.

I am currently waiting for an overnight sleep study. I have been told by one doctor that I have sleep apnea, and by another that I have narcolepsy. Others have said I have both. Since my friends joked about narcolepsy even when I was a teenager, and I have witnessed apneas, I suspect it could be both (or one imitating the other). A CPAP alone has done nothing for me.

I'm not sure if it is better eating or jet lag... but I've slept 10 hours (albeit broken sleep) per night for the last three nights. Normally I sleep 2-3 hours per night. YAY!

Hello
This is my first day here.
I have been needing something to occupy my mind, so I can sleep when I go to bed. I have been using the TV.
I want to change that.

Hi, I'm Joyce and I work retail on second shift, which for my company means 2 to 10:30. When I come home I watch T.V. shows I've recorded before I go to bed. My sleep troubles started when I changed cable providers and got a DVR with my package deal. I think I need to rein in my impulse to over-record just because I can. This may help me as much as anything I learn here. But I'm sure I will find other helpful hints here as well, or why would I bother to join?

Hi my name is Jenny. I am a 48yo student nurse! I know a lot about the need for, and advantages of quality sleep, but struggle to apply the knowlege to myself. Also, recently I think I may be doing some menopause changes because I have had a different quality to my sleep and have had some steamy nights and I don't mean the "good" kind of steamy nights! Anyway, to myself and each of you, please try hard to follow the sleep team guidelines so we can all be healthier and feel better! Best of luck everyone!
