Hello I am Kathryn
I am a mechanical heart valve surgery survivor. I can't sleep well if I have to listen to my heart valve click. When I wake up panicked my heart clicks faster and makesme scared. My husband has to have. The tv on to sleep. But because I fell asleep at the wheel as a teen the flash ing tv wakes me up.
Taking statins which is very sleep disruptive . I may have to employ my sleep machine to drown out noise. I'm exercising. At night because weather is gruelingly hot.

My name is Laney and I have had a lot of sleep anxiety in the past. With a lot of work on it , eg, imagining little scrub brushes erasing stressful thoughts, I have gotten past the 2-3 hour wait to fall asleep. I still need to keep on top of my sleep issues with nutrition and exercise to make me comfortable and fully ready to rest each night. I joined the group to help others and to get more insight on why I have this problem to begin with.

Consistency is goal #1

Hi, I was on strong psych meds till last October and they made me sleep I think...since getting off the I either don't sleep at all or get between 0-6 hours. I'm constantly tired. Because I have depression, my doctor was worried that my lack of sleep who worsen my depression so now I'm on a strong sleeping pill every other day. On those days I sleep 8 hours and on off days I sleep 0-4 hours so am joining this challenge to see if I can help myself out.

Hi! My name is Kyra and I'm a registered nurse. I have been doing shift work for years and usually sleep decently, given the circumstances. However, in the past month or so, I've been having trouble staying asleep. Can usually fall asleep fine but then wake up 3 hours or less later and can't get back to sleep. Hoping this challenge, coupled with seeing a naturopath will help me out. I don't want to have to resort to sleeping meds.

Hi, just joined yesterday. I use the Jawbone UP Move to track my sleep and steps. I average about 6 1/2 hours of sleep - rarely do I get 8 straight hours of sleep. I do nap during the day.

Hello, I'm Beth. My sleep problems come from various health issues, so I don't know how much I can improve things. However, I'm willing to give it a try! Losing 25+ pounds has at least helped with my reflux, so now I can lie flat to sleep. That is an improvement!

There is tons of excellent information on the Sparkpeople website, so please research any questions you might have. It's a great resource!

Hi, I'm Kristen. My problem is when I lay down in bed I am not tired. I could be dead tired minutes before climbing into bed but as soon as I lay down I am wide awake. I have a Fitbit Flex that I got almost a week ago. Tracking my sleep has been interesting. I sleep much better than I realized yet I still wake up tired.

Hi there! I'm Harley and I can fall asleep and wake up on time just fine, but I wake up about every hour and spend about half an hour to an hour trying to get back to sleep. I'm hoping I can figure out what to do to stay asleep or get back to sleep faster :)

Thanks!! :)

Hello, my first time to see your challenge, Have had sleep problems for a number of years.
Using a Res Med Breathing System & still have bad habit of staying up late & getting up
too early;6:30 or sleeping in too late 10:30. I need to improve Sleeping Habits. Do not like feeling tired all day. This is another excuse, have to stay up late to be on the computer.

Hi: I'm Kathy from Ontario, Canada, and a returning Spark member. I realize my restless sleep is probably interfering with my ability to lose weight. Between a chronic cough, weak bladder, old foot injury and recently fractured ribs, I definitely do not sleep well!! I have downloaded the sleep journal and getting to bed on time is my biggest challenge. I am looking forward to the support and learning how to get even a couple of more hours sleep per night!

Hi - here's a bit of background and why I'm wanting to do the sleep challenge:
I've been doing the challenge this week and really learning a lot about my habits and patterns. I have a difficult time dragging myself away from the TV to get to bed early enough for a solid 8 hours. Generally, my body is up by 7:30a at the latest, no matter what time I go to sleep, so I can only gain hours on the night side by getting to bed earlier.

My husband often works nights, and sometimes I work with him. This can throw things totally out of whack. If he's not there, I have a really hard time getting to sleep and will often be up until 2 am, with very restless sleep.

I will usually wake once to go to the bathroom, and as long as it is before 3 am, it doesn't seem to cause any issues. Between 3 am and sunup, I am susceptible to not being able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. After sunup, I will likely sleep for another 90 minutes, even if I want to get up earlier.

I am a vivid dreamer, and I don't know if that means I'm not getting enough restorative sleep or what, but I have noticed that during this challenge so far, I have not been dreaming as much, or they fade quickly and are not memorable.

I have been using a sleep tracker app, but not sure that I can trust its accuracy, so trying not to put too much stock in it. It basically says that I'm getting very little deep sleep and almost no REM cycles.

I'm learning the importance in sleep as it pertains to brain function, body/cellular repair and hormone balancing, so I'm hoping to gain better sleep habits by doing this challenge!

I'm here for ideas on how to get 7 or 8 hours of sleep! I never stick to a routine for more than a couple weeks, then fall back into 4 hours of sleep each night. Need to ditch bad habits and get healthy (and lose weight) with good sleep patterns.

Hi, I'm just joining in the fun of this one on 6/2--which means by 6/30 I should definitely have established better sleep habits. I have been struggling with this issue for years (like since I was an infant according to my mom) and I would like to have some sense of accomplishment before I turn 60 in August. I'm currently counting down my last 100 days/day 83 today. I have several habits to change and this fits my current change curriculum to a T.
I am the mother of 2 grown kids (1 married daughter currently expecting our first grandbaby in December and a son who has 1 foot out the door into his own living experience @ 25.5 yrs, lol). I have been married for 30 years and have had some weight issues for the last 23 years or so and then some health issues including sleep apnea (familial) and Restless Leg Syndrome (not weight related) just to make things interesting.
I work the equivalent of 5-6 days a month (depending on the # of Mondays). My husband is retired but is working full-time at our local airport.
I live in Casper, WY, where spring skipped us and we went from snow on May 17th to 85 degree weather yesterday, lol. It is hard to plan outside activities sometimes, lol.

I just joined this team/challenge. I have terrible sleep habits. I took the quiz and I obviously know what to do just not doing it. Several years ago made a New Year's resolution to be in bed by midnight. Lasted about 3 days and then was even worse. I see how important this is for weight loss and for health so need to stop screwing around. I know I can and will do better.

I have always been a night owl. But lately, it has gotten to the point that I do not get to bed until between 4-6 am. It doesn't matter if I only got a few hours of sleep the day before, I will still lie in bed and be wide awake. Then I don't get up until 1-2 in the afternoon.I would really like to get a regular sleep routine in place. I don't mind being awake later, but I have found that I feel my best if I get to sleep around 1 am and get up between 8-9 am. I am hoping that joining this group will help me feel more accountable, and help me to establish a better sleep routine.

Hi, all. After reviewing several nights of sleep from my FitBit it seems I am VERY restless throughout the night. I always felt that I slept well getting 7-9 hours per night so I didn't understand why I always felt tired. Now I know I do not get quality sleep. That is what I need to achieve and I hope joining this group can help.

emoticon I sometimes can stay awake all night. Other than that, I found things at night that were more interesting than day time stuff and I got into the bad habit of staying up half the night enjoying it. I am now working on getting back to a more day time schedule. I recently got new clock radio alarm clock and it is helping me begin to establish an earlier morning wake up, and resulting sometimes in earlier bedtimes. Daily stressors affect me, though.

I don't know if I have already introduced my self before, but just in case I didn't... My name is Teresa, I am married to a husband who works late so comes to bed late...and I have three kids, 2 of them are in college and one's a senior in hs. I also have a dog and cat. I am a pretty deep sleeper but if I am woken up in the middle of the night I have a hard time getting back to sleep.
And I would love to sleep in on my days off but the kids and cat won't let me. In the back of my mind I know it's good to go to bed and get up at the same time every day and I do have a normal routine monday - thursday I'm in bed by 10 and I am up by 6, but I would love to get a little more sleep on the weekends. How do I make it through the day without caffeine or a nap?

Hi my name is Gillianne. I feel as if I have never mastered the art of sleep for years. I am guilty of letting electronics keep me up at ridiculous hours. Having a little one did not help the situation. I'm on here to finally beat the insomnia monster.

I'm Regina and I joined this challenge because I need to sleep better. Some nights I sleep well and other nights I don't. It's really embarrassing on Sundays at church when I want to close my eyes during the sermon. I can tell when I nodded off because I take notes and I can't read what I wrote! emoticon
Anyhow, I hope to sleep better.

Hi! I joined this challenge to help with my sleep habits -- I have always been a night owl, but it's changing -- and when I don't sleep well due to stress. Last year I was diagnosed with "positional" sleep apnea, and it's my major goal to lose weight and avoid apnea entirely if possible. It interrupts my sleep, and so I get tired during the day. I am on thyroid meds, and that can alter my sleep patterns, too.

Hello everyone! I joined this challenge because I need to cultivate better sleep habits for myself as well as for my DH. I am a snoozer...even though I know I will feel better by getting up immediately. I'm going to try setting my alarm clocks (yes, I need more than one) on the other side of the room tonight, and maybe tomorrow I won't hit snooze three times.

Hopefully by the end of this challenge I will be able to wake up earlier without feeling over tired.

My name is Linda, and I currently have some sleep issues. If I get too stressed out at work, I don't sleep. If I drink too much caffeine during the day, I don't sleep. If I take a nap, I don't sleep. Most of my sleep issues are self-induced. I need to take better care of myself.

Just take it one day at a time.

My name is Candice. I have had sleep issues for years. There are several things that contribute to them.

1. My youngest daughter has severe asthmatic issues. When she is having an episode, I am woken up several times a night for breathing treatments
2. I have many things on my plate that I cannot push off. I am a single parent and there simply aren't enough hours in the day.
3. Because I do so much, when I sit still for longer than 10 minutes I fall asleep.
4. I also have a hard time waking up because I am exhausted

With the help of this challenge, I hope to learn how to have good quality sleep when I can and adjust for days that I cannot.

My name is Marilyn. I have sleep apnea and don't sleep very well. It seems If I am able to fall asleep right away I am back up in 3 or 4 hours. If I don't got to sleep right away I toss and turn for 3 or 4 hours. I am sure that I need to make some changes like getting off the computer earlier, getting up without hitting the snooze button and going to bed at a reasonable time.

Hi everyone. Sleeping disorders run in my family - my father and aunt, grandfather, great grandmother, etc. There are funny stories about all of them up (they lived next door to each other when my father and aunt were growing up) at 4 a.m.

My sleep has gotten progressively worse, and while some of it I come by naturally, I know I have some bad habits I am ready to change (Like bringing my laptop to bed with me).

This is the perfect day to get started with this challenge. I did not go to sleep at all last night. I have stayed awake all day in the hopes of getting to bed at a reasonable hour tonight and getting a good night's sleep.

I am really looking forward to this challenge. I know my fatigue is slowing me down in many ways.

Hello everyone!
I'm Italian and have been on SP since 2009, even if I've been a regular for the past few months only. That's when I decided to be serious about my losing weight and have found lots of support and motivation here. I'm succeeding in (slowly) losing weight, but now I need to face the poor sleep issue. I used to sleep well and sound when I was a teenager, but now things are very different. I fall asleep quite easily usually, but then either wake up many times during the night, or am awake very early (sometimes 3.30 am) in the morning and can't get back to sleep. Sometimes the sleep deprivation makes me feel exhausted all day, which is terrible because my job is quite stressful itself. I hope I can learn how to sleep better through this challenge!

My name is Betty. I've been on SP since 2010 but just in the last few months I have gotten serious about taking control of my health. I have tried the Sleep challenge 2 or 3 times, but fallen away quickly. I am just completing BLC26 and decided with the success of actually finishing the BLC now is a good time to take the sleep challenge in between this BLC and BLC27. I have noticed during the BLC that the weeks I have slept better I have also been able to lose weight, the weeks I didn't sleep well, I either stayed the same or gained. NOW is the time to take control of my sleeping habits. I am a night owl, but am ready to transform into a morning glory:) This would also thrill my DH no end. emoticon

My name is Greta and my sleep is all over the place. I have many restless nights as well and end up waking up in the middle of the night, wide awake. Would love to receive some tips to help me sleep through the nights and overall just to sleep better in general.

Hello. My name is Lorna and my sleep has always been all over the place, even though I try to go around the same time. I typically get up at night and also snack. I'm trying to break this pattern.

Hi everyone! My name is Sharon. I'm in Sally's shoes....Been retired coming on one year so my bedtime and wake up times have been somewhat erratic. I joined this challenge to get into better sleep patterns, it's so important right now as I live in Canada, and it's dark by 5 pm now. If I wake up at 8, I feel like I hardly have a day left.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here.
Sleep well tonight!

Hi everyone. I'm Sally. I've been retired for almost a year now and find my sleep time has changed radically since I stopped working. I'm almost always up by 7:30 am but not usually to bed until 11:30. I've been tracking my sleep with my fitbit and have been trying to work on getting to bed earlier and getting better and more sound sleep. I have noticed the nights where I've slept the best the next day I'm not craving the carbs quite as much. Go figure emoticon

Hello! I just joined this challenge at the suggestion of SparkCoach. It was actually recommended to me when I started pursuing healthy goals in September, but I didn't think I needed it. Well, now I realize that I do. I've been reading about the importance of sleep for a few years now, but am just starting to take it seriously.

Since moving into a bright, sunny home in May, I don't sleep much past 7:30 am, which is problematic because I usually don't go to bed until 1 am. When I lived in a darker home, I regularly got 8 hours of sleep. I wouldn't trade living in this home for anything, and actually like waking up early. My problem is that I also like going to sleep late! emoticon

Reminder to self: Stay in the moment!

Hi, I'm Mary. I need to build up good health & fitness habits and figured joining a challenge would be a good motivator. I am too tired too much of the time - time to evaluate and improve my sleep habits.
