Hello to all! I have not been sleeping well for a while. I have no trouble falling asleep, it's staying asleep. I wake up throughout the night numerous times and many times I will never fall back to sleep. Today I start my 4 weeks of better sleep and also went to GNC and purchased Melatonin, which is a natural sleep aide, will not use sleeping pills! I must also admit that most of my life I have never woken refreshed, no matter what my weight. Hopefully all the steps in this program will help me get to the bottom of my sleep issues. I wish all nights of many restful zzzzzzzs!

hello my name is Jeannie, I came across this group and prayed it would help me sleep. I have never slept well for as long as I can remember; but recently it seems like it is worse. Last nite, well really this morning didnt get to sleep til after 6 am, and when I did get up at 11 am I didn't feel rest(of course). But I have found even when I am able to fall asleep earlier I dont feel rested when I wake up. I do exercise and I have found so far that it makes me sleepy so I try to exercise b4 I go to bed.

Just at my wits end, not sure what to do next....

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.

Hello -

Just getting started in Week 2, but realized I hadn't "introduced myself".

I'm improving, but not always. Still waken a couple times each night, but trying to get to bed earlier (around 9 - 9:30) since I work full time and alarm goes off at 5:30. Also need to exercise more. Have just started adding 5-10 minutes a day (had not done any regularly); hope to increase this as I get used to it. Using the "free exercising" shows on Comcast TV - new to me.

Thinking of starting to do more reading and picture puzzles (used to love both, but haven't done much of either for a few years) to help me feel tired when getting to bed (along with exercise done earlier, and eatting at decent times, etc). Living alone, it's easy to ignore things like these, so need to form habits.

Hello! New to this challenge, but not the first time I have taken a good hard look at my sleep quality and habits. About 5 years ago I did some major digging into insomnia and other sleep issues because I couldn't fall asleep, stay asleep, or get back to sleep. I dr prescribe medication that made sure I was wide away at 2 when I awoke. I dumped that stuff and I started Yoga and meditation then, learned several breathing techniques, took electronics out of my bedroom, and turned off my alarm clock. I'm not too bad now, most nights not up past 11 but in bed by 10 10:30, never wake up too late for work or anywhere else I might need to be, don't usually wake up in the middle of the night w/out being able to get back to sleep. However it is still more frequent than not that I wake up still feeling tired - I'm hoping to fix that putting my sleep back under the microscope. Add to the mix some new difficulties - a significant other that has RLS, and his black lab that likes to tell us when there is noise outside.

Hello all,
I have joined this team because it will help me to pay attention to my erratic sleep patterns. I have always been a "late night" person, and tend to feel my brain is better wired after 9:00pm. However, as I have aged, I have begun to realize that staying up until 1:00am or later is not good for me, even though I am able to take a 2 hour nap in the afternoons. I love naps, but then of course, I cannot get to sleep before midnight. I use a C-Pap machine for sleep apnea and have it adjusted to work well for me. My personal goals are to get to bed before mindnight and set my alarm to sleep 7 - 8 hours, add Yoga and prayer/meditation to my bedtime routine. Cut down on the tea I drink during the day. I often drink tea in the afternoon and evenings and I know that probably bothers my sleep. So, I will have to go cold turkey after noon each day. Looking forward to the structure this team will give me.

Hi all!

I'm Carol, and I know my sleep problems are my mind/body response to stress. It's been a very long-term problem and lately it's gotten worse, since I'm working on my dissertation research and teaching full time in a new(ish) position. I want very much to get adequate rest!

Hi! I'm Cori, 22 and I have always had problems with sleeping. I feel better the next day if I go to sleep around 3am and wake up around 6am. Right now, if I try to sleep 8 hours I am so worn out when I wake up and alls I want to do is sleep. I'm trying to fix this problem and get into the habit of getting at least 8 hours of sleep everynight. I start my studnet teaching in two shorts weeks and I'm sure I'm going to need all the sleep I can get!

Hi!

I'm new to this team. I have sleep problems, have read articles on SP and other areas regarding sleep problems and I'm pretty sure I know what my problems are, but I'm never going to stop learning so I might as well get some more information as I might learn something! emoticon

Anyway, I'll bumble my way around in this team and come up with several solutions to several issues I have.

Looking forward to "working out" with all of you!

Hi!

I've been on SP since January although I didn't faithfully start it up until May or so. I'm definitely new to the challenge feature. And this one will be a definite challenge for me. I desparately need good sleep and I have three things working against me. I work late into the wee hours of the morning three nights a week. I have two young children who are up and at 'em very early in the morning. And my husband works overseas so I am alone with them. I'm also a night person as well. I figure this should be an interesting challenge, but I'm hoping that even a small improvement will make a huge difference. Because I'm very tired all the time.

Yes, I have the same issues! I woke up at 2 a.m. this morning at my head was racing about so many things. I don't know what time I actually went back to sleep, but I woke up pretty groggy

Hey there!

Work stresses plus financial woes and assorted other life worries contribute to my head hitting the pillow somewhere around midnight each night. I'd love to get more consistent sleep, especially on the weekends when my night owl really wants to come out.

Hello everyone. I am Crystal and I need a better night's sleep!!! That's a little easier said than done with a deployed husband and 3 foster children. Lol. Especially if those 3 children are all under the age of 3 years old. Something has to be done, though! I don't want to rely on coffee to keep me going throughout the day. :)

Job transfer means long commute and earlier to bed, earlier to rise. I am one of the leaders of the Sleep Apnea team and despite the excellent cpap, I am still waking about 5 times a night, not falling asleep before 11:30 and having troubles getting up before 8:00 AM. I suspect more exercise and less food might help.

hi everyone!

I am excited to find this challenge. Sleep has always been an issue for me (the one thing my long-divorced parents agree on... ha-ha!). I know that for some of my health and weight-loss goals will be really helped by getting more sleep and more regular sleep.

I am really hoping for support and learning new tips from other people.

I am new to SparkPeople and new to this challenge. My sleep problem is staying up way too late and getting 5 or 6 hours of sleep. I am going to follow the advice about establishing a healthy pre-bedtime routine. My goal is to get at least 7 hours every night for a week.

Hey I'm Cori. Just joined SparkPeople, and man do I need this group! I do not have a sleep schedule at all, I usually do not go to bed before 2am and I get up anywhere from 5:30am to 12:45pm, depending on my work schedule. I am only 22 years old and I think this stems from me living six hours from home in a college housing apartment. When in college, it seems like sleep is unheard of! Well I start student teaching in three weeks and I'm going to need some great tips to help me get this sleeping issue under control!

Hi there! I'm Kristine. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and a mom to two daughters ages 12 and 7 months. My 7 month old sleeps through the night, and I wish I could! I need to figure out how to get quality sleep as I would like to start front-loading my day with a fitness routine. A good night's sleep is a great place to start.

Thanks!

Kristine :)

Joined this challenge on the 2nd of June and unjoined a few days later because I wouldnt be able to complete the four week program.

Back again.

Joined SP in January.
Had three good months.
Two off months and there it started. Bad sleeping and eating bad again.
Ever since I have been unable to sleep more then four hours in a row.
Waking up and then taking me for ever to sleep.
Hope to get some tips and tricks here.

Just came back from holiday where I slept bad because of the heat. Daytime 35-43 degrees, nighttime between 24-32 degrees. Trick with ice cubes and ice packed helped a little but 8 hours in a row I haven't managed. Two tops to wake up, go to the bathroom, drink a glass of water and get more ice cubes.

So looking forward to the tips and tricks.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Every season has its charm.

Hello soon to be well rested friends. My name is Candice and I need this team almost more than anything. Take last night for instance, I went to bed at 2am got up at 6 am to come to work this morning. Needless to say, I am exhausted. Oh and by the way, the kids dont care how tired mommy is, they still want to play and want dinner and all of that, as if, lol!!! Anyway, I am really looking forward to learning some techniques that will help me get into the bed at an earlier time and that will help me get more fullfilling rest.

Hello everyone! My name is Carmen. I think I'm just a victim of my own bad habits. It's like a never ending cycle. I get up early, feel like I've hit a wall in the afternoon, fall asleep in a chair after work, feel energized, stay up too late, get up early, and start over. It's beginning to wear me down so something has to change.

I joined the challenge because I've got to change and the process is easier with other people who have the same goal in mind.

I am Hannah. I have had trouble with insomnia in the past. I am not having trouble with it now--I don't think. I am just not leaving enough room in my day for sleeping. I will be tired at like 9 but I will stay up until much later watching TV.

Hi! My name is Merle and I have made some changes to my sleep habits and I joined this team to keep me on track. I decided about a month ago that I would not sleep with the TV on anymore. I had been doing that for as long as I can remember. My next goal will be to get to bed by 10 which has been really hard for me.

Hello all! My name is Charyse and I am busy busy busy all day long! After this challenge, I'm doing the stress buster challenge! Since it is summer and I'm a teacher, I am trying to focus on me. I have been exercising 5-6 days a week, 2 days with a trainer, and the one thing that is holding me back is a lack of sleep.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I get up early and go to class...but the other five days in a week I just lounge in bed or on the couch...I feel badly because my daughter begs for my attention while I'm sleeping and then I get grumpy with her when she's getting into mischif without my supervision.

I would love to get into a better sleeping pattern so I can be a better mom, wife, and teacher.

Hi Melinda emoticon

I had problems with sleep since I was a teenager too. Went to court because of truancy. It started with depression at the time. But I didn't start meds until last year. Mostly people saw me as lazy, unmotivated, and not too smart. Good luck to you.

Hello everyone! emoticon

I'm Joy. Last year I went to the doctor and tried all kinds of sleeping pills for my insomnia from Ambien, Unisom, and some others. It's a nice quick fix, but I end up dragging my feet the next day. All I can think of is sleep. It's 4:12 in the morning finally going to bed and not tired.

I been trying to find other ways then pills to help by walking, weight lifting, and making a to do list. I always think that I'm forgeting something.

Hi Guys!

My name is Melinda and I joined this challenge because I have some serious issues with sleep. I have had problems since I was a teenager so I am hoping that joining this challenge will give me some drive to finally conquer my issues! I'm sure that either way I will learn some things I never knew before.

Good luck to everyone else too!

I joined because I need to find a way to help retrain my brain. I have a long commute to work each day to a stressful, sometimes too many hours day. Then I come home, do my workout, eat my dinner, and catch up on emails/ friends/Sparks. Burning the candle at both ends is getting more and more difficult!!

Hi everyone! I'm a nurse and I'm always busy at home too. I've been having significant problems with sleeping for probably about the past 2 months. I think it started a little before that...but I'm really frustrated. I have to go to bed early because I wake up at 5AM. Getting 8 hours of sleep seems to be easier said than done. I often lay awake for hours before I can actually fall asleep and then I'm tired all day. I usually have no problems whatsoever sleeping when I do NOT have to work the next day, but if I do have to work in the morning, I often tossing and turning instead of sleeping. I hope this challenge offers some good tips and advice about how to sleep better.

Hey everyone. I joined the Sleep Challenge for a couple reasons.
A.) because I know sleep is an important part of losing weight and I want to do all I can!
B.) Because I needed some sort of challenge. Something to accomplish - something to strive for. Some sort of motivation to keep doing this weight loss thing. And doing this challenge is just another part of the journey and that's what keeps me going.

:-)

Hey everyone, I joined because I need a healthy sleeping habit; going to bed at approximately the same time each day, sleeping approximately eight hours each night and hopefully not waking up a zillion times in the middle of the sleep. My husband snores very loudly, so using ear plugs is a must, but if I'm stressed out or something similar I tend to hear it even better. I've already joined the stress challenge and think the two actually fit very well together at least in my daily life. Happy to be here and thanks for the inspiration!

Hi, My name is Juanita. I am 48 years old and have struggled with sleep issues for many years. Most of my issues are related to pain and muscle spasms which wake me up every 3-4 hrs. through the night. It also keeps me from falling asleep easily. I find myself up until 1-3 am fighting to go to sleep and then being awaken in pain anywhere from 2-4 hrs later, having to get up take medication then wait 1 hr for it to kick in before I can go back to sleep. I hope to learn some tips on how to get around this cycle.

I'm super excited to being this challenge.

I started the bad habit back in high school of putting off sleep to get other things done. Working late on school nights. And it got only worse in when I went away to school.

I haven't been able to break the habit...but now it's going to work.

Hi there! My name is Valerie Rayne and I'm new to SparkPeople. Today is my first day of starting my Week 1 Action Plan, and now it's just a matter of tracking my sleeping habits and then setting my goals. Currently, I get anywhere from 4 - 6 hours a sleep a night, and that has been the norm for me since I was about 16. Of all the challenges I face, this one is probably going to be the most difficult. I have a hard time making myself go to bed early. I'm very much a night owl, and feel like I'm most productive early early in the morning and after midnight. So it makes it hard for me, because I'll stay up later and later as my productiveness gets to be more and more. I'm hoping to start my bedtime routine when the kids go to bed at 8 PM and be in bed by 11 PM.

Cheers & Respect,
Valerie Rayne

Greetings fellow insomniacs. At least someone else will be awake and on SP when I wake up at 5:00 am
after finally falling asleep after 1:00! It's 11:00 am now and my day feels more than over. Don't dare nap theough cause you know how that goes.
But I'm game. Company in suffering or cure. Either would be good.

emoticon Everybody!

I joined the team today and am excited about addressing my sleep issues and starting my journey to better sleep health with you! I come alive at night and find it difficult to get to bed at a decent hour. emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone,

My name is Shanae and I am very excited about this sleep challenge. I don't have a solid routine for sleeping through the week and on weekends and that is why I joined this challenge. I am already getting a lot of ideas as to how I can build a better sleep routine.

No dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

Hello all! My name is Dean, and while I have been on SP for a while, this is the first time being really active, and I finally feel I am entering into it all. For the past month and a half I have been doing pretty good, but I know that sleep is one of my weak areas. Hopefully this challenge will help me see how to improve and get a full night's rest without too much stress!

Hi. I'm a grandma from the northeast. I decided to join this challenge because I am inconsistent with wearing my c-pap mask and I don't stick with a normal sleep schedule. Since I'm retired I sleep whenever I feel like it. I want to turn things back around so I don't sleep in the daytime.

Hi!

I'm Nedyfay, and (this may not come as a suprise for you) I have trouble sleeping. Sometimes I sleep like a log, and yet other times I am just not sleepy at all and can go for days without anything helping - including medication! I was already on a private mission to improve my sleep, but I love a challenge and so here I am!

Hi I'm Peggy. I tend to run hot/cold on my sleep. I'm either dead to the world by 7 PM or I've fallen asleep for an hour of two after work and I'm up the rest of the night. I sure didn't start this challenge out well at all -- was up and down most of the night. I can actually identify the two reasons for last night though: (1) I knew I had a major project at work looming before me this morning; and (2) my husband was tossing, turning, and talking in his sleep most of the night. I'm definitely more of a 7-hour sleeper; that's when I wake feeling the best in the morning and throughout the day. If I sleep more than 8 hours I'm a slug all day. Tonight's goal is to get to bed early enough to get a good, solid 7 hours! Hopefully I'll do better tonight. emoticon
