I know I need to get 8 hours of sleep every night, but I never do. One of my goals is to start doing that so I thought this challenge was perfect for me. I have a stressful job that usually doesn't stop until I walk out the door and when I don't get enough sleep I'm extremely irritable and not as efficient as I need to be. I'm going to start getting more sleep!

Hi. . .my name is Marie. I joined this challenge for two reasons, one I might learn something and find ways get a better night sleep. I wake up at least 3 if not more times a night, and also, maybe it will help myself to be accountable for one of my 2011 Resolutions which is to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. I was doing very well until this past week when I just couldn't sleep once I went to bed for the night. I have a hard time turning of my mind at night when the house is quiet.

I thought I had done my introduction but guess I didn't. I have always had problems . While I was going to University I loved the fact that I could "pull all nighters" but now I just find it frustrating and I just have bad patterns for sleep. Add stress and my current financial situation sleep my sleep has gotten worse.

Hi,
My name is Melanie. I have all kind of issues with sleeping. I have terrible bouts of insommnia which then causes me to have anxiety attacks about sleeping.
I am hoping to learn some new tricks to add to my arsenal. I hate resorting to taking any kind of sleeping aides, so would love to try some new things.

I joined so I could improve my sleeping habits and sleep longer. I wake up tired every morning no matter how long I sleep. I go to sleep later than I want then hit the snooze several times before I get up. I often wake up too early and have to try to go back to sleep then when I'm finally back to sleep I don't want to get up. emoticon I'm ready to get a good night's sleep.

I am Stephanie. I feel like I sleep a long time, but I get tired easily, and I think its from waking up occasionally and not really realizing it. I kind of feel like I'm in a twilight zone lol. Anyhow, I'm hoping to fix my sleep and gain more energy :)

Hi everyone! My name is Cherye and I have the worst sleeping habits in my family. I have had insomnia since I was a small child and also am a light sleeper. One of the other things I suffer from is sleepwalking...which is a common thing in my family. I usually get around 3-6 hours of sleep, but the majority of my problems occur because I have problems going to bed at a reasonable time. I never feel sleepy at night, and usually stay up past 3am.
I'm hoping this challenge will help me obtain better sleep habits and methods to fight the insomnia.

Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie, and I'm a terrible sleeper. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep, and once I am asleep I wake up constantly. I'm never really awake for that long, but it happens 3-5 times a night. I hate that I'm always tired. I hope that this challenge will help me to start sleeping better and in turn help me achieve my weight loss/healthy habit goals!

Hi everyone! My name is Laura and I never seem to get enough sleep. On a good night, I'm averaging 4-5 hours. I don't have problems falling asleep, I have problems going to bed at a reasonable time.

I also have sleep apnea and need to develop better habits about using my BiPap. I'm hoping this challenge will give me a good jumpstart back into better sleep habits.

Hi! My name is Jennifer. I decided to join this challenge because... I have trouble sleeping. To be more specific, I have issues with staying asleep. I wake up repeatedly through the night. Sometimes I can get back to sleep, but other times I sit tossing and turning for quite a while before I am able to doze back off. In the worse cases, I wake up after only a short period of sleep, and just can't go back to sleep no matter what I do. So, I am gonna see if I can't turn this around and get into a good sleeping pattern that is productive for me.

Hello. My name is Lianne and I have decided to join this challenge because every night is a struggle with me. I toss and turn for almost 30 minutes every night while I try to fall asleep. I suffer from insomnia and no matter how much sleep I get I still don't feel rested. It is frustrating and it is a constant battle.

I do go to bed every night at the same time and get up every morning at the same time. That is one good sleep habit that I do have!

I exercise 3-4 days a week and I thought that doing this would help me with my sleep issues, but it doesn't. I don't fall asleep any sooner or faster and that is another frustrating thing to deal with.

I am hoping to solve my sleep issues and not have to use over the counter sleep aids to get a good nights rest.

Lianne

Hi! I have suffered from insomnia since I was in elementary school. I have taken medication for years. I am an RN and worked nights most of my career. Now I work 8:30 to 5:00 (and have for 2 years) but my CLOCK seems to still be set on nights! I struggle to get up at 7:30 and am tired a lot of the day, but then around 8:30 at night, I get a 2nd wind and don't want to go to sleep!

I am hoping to develop some better sleep hygiene and at least reduce my dosage of medication, if not completely stop.

Hi – My name is Shirley but I use Meri at Spark. You may call me anything you like. ..I’m new and do I ever need this team!
Goals for my first week: to keep a sleep diary
To not drink or eat anything after 8 PM
To keep my bed for sleeping – no TV, no iPOD, no reading, no writing. I have to do something and finding my way here by "accident" seems to be the way to start.
I thought I would need less sleep as I aged (and that I’ve done!) but I find by experimenting that I need 10 hours to be even civil to myself when I get up. I hope, if I have better sleep habits and got the sleep I need, I would be a much more positive woman. I have some problems with sleep that I can’t control and more about those another time. Thanks for being there. Meri

Hello PraireCrocus:

Good idea on turning off the computer by 12:00...love them but they sure do suck the time. Today is a snow day here (work at a school), so hopefully I'll do more than be at the computer!

I also plan to go to bed a few times a week with my hubby (he goes to bed at 10:00, gets up earlier than me).

Thanks for the good night!

Hello. This is my first team thing. I've been on Sparkpeople since November 07 and I love this website. I've been working on my food for the last 2 months and am now ready to venture to another avenue. I've been reading how important it is to get 8 hours sleep a night .... so I'll give it a concentrated effort and see how I do. When I was younger I could sleep anywhere....now that I'm older, I have a 19 year old and a 16 year old .... so older than 40. Going through menopause so night sweats occur at times. emoticon

Hello everyone, My name is Nicole but I like to be called Nikki. I actually fell off a little but I am back for good. Life sure does detour your plans sometimes. I decided to join this group because I have realized that sleep is a big issue for me. I don't get enough and when I don't have enough I can't function. It feels good to know that I am not alone with this. Baby steps is the goal. I will stop setting my standards too high. Thanks for being an inspiration!!!! emoticon

Hi everyone, my name is Linda but I like to be called Linnie.
I am 60 years old and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in 2001. I have been on a bipac machine with oxygen at night sence then. I also have diabetes, arthritis and fibromyalgia. I am glad I have joined Spark People and joined this team.
Since my diagnose I have been much better with my sleep patterns compared to then but there is room for improvement.
I have had good and bad times but we all have those in some form.
Just the journal itself is new for me and I will work at it as well as I can.

Hi everyone. I'm Jan. Have had chronic insomnia since 1990. It started due to work- and family-related stress. Also, my sleep habits changed as I got older. Now, sometimes it just seems like a bad habit that I can't shake.

I've tried many different solutions and approaches over the years though never medication. Talked to my doctor about that about ten years ago, but neither one of us thought that was a good idea as it's really only a temporary fix.

I've been sleeping fairly well recently. Sometimes have a night when I wake up for no (perceptible) reason. But I am entering a new work-stress period, so I joined the challenge as a way to meet any new sleep problems head-on.

Hello everyone. After another night of poor sleep, I remembered seeing this challenge on SP and decided to give it a try. I have three kids ages 10, 8 and 6 and at least a couple times per week they wake me up for something reason or another. That combined with my own sleep issues is putting me over the edge. I would like to get a good night's sleep so I could get up early in the morning to exercise, because right now I am really struggling with fitting into my day.

Hello,

I'm Ryn and I'm 22 years old and I've had problems sleeping since I was 13 years old. Over the years I've been diagnosed with Insomnia and medicated for it however I'm trying a different approach to getting natural healthy sleep so I don't have to rely on sedatives and feel groggy all the time.

Hi my name is Nycki.

I am hoping to gain so techniques for better sleep. I do not get great quality of sleep ONCE I fall asleep. I have MS and sleep is very important to my treatment and I can not seem to get there.

I took the quiz and I seem to understand but can't seem to implement anything on my own.

Hi! I am not new to spark, but I am new to this challenge. Generally, I feel like my sleep habits are OK but I'm going to do this challenge and see if anything pops up and surprises me. I've had it happen before that I thought something was A-OK, but suddenly realized an aspect of it was very off.

Cheers! And see you around. Zzzzzzzzz

I'm new to SP and have trouble motivating myself to work out and keep up with my goals. Any support would be helpful. Hopefully I'll be able to relax and work on sleeping better at night as well!

Hi, I'm K. I joined SP this week and I'm committed to reaching my goals. My sleep issues involve getting either too much or too little, and never with any regularity. I hope to get into a consistent pattern and be able to wake up early every morning so I can get into a rhythm and feel good throughout the day. Nice to meet you all!

Hello! I am new to SP and so far I love it! I know that one of the keys to being successful with better eating habits is to make sure I have better sleep habit too... This is why I chose this challenge as my first one... I already made a few changes in my house before even joining SP in that I stopped bringing my laptop to bed and I also turn my phone off. So far so good! I have sleep apnea and snore - and I know that these are directly related to my weight and my struggle trying to lose it, so what better way to assess my progress then through a challenge like this one!?

XOXOX - Marcia
