My name is Cindy and I joined the Challenge 2 days ago. I was so happy to find this challenge as I know I need to get more sleep and want more energy. My biggest challenge lately is I recently got acquainted with Facebook and started playing some games on Facebook. This has been a really big mistake, even though I'm having fun. I get on the computer and tell myself I'm only go to play games for a few mintues which turns into a few hours and then I don't go to bed until midnight. I've kept my Sleep Journal for 2 days now and I'm already starting to see a change. My biggest challenge is to go to bed at a set time but so far it's working. Now.....I'm waiting for the energy to kick in.....

Hey there. I don't suffer from insomnia but I know I do not have good sleeping habits. As a result, I don't have the energy level I would like so I can do all the things I would like to do so, it's time to take action and responsibility for what I do!

There are no failures; only a delay in results!

I joined a couple of days ago and now I am just getting around to introduce myself, My name is SANDRA and I suffer from insomnia since I was a child.
It takes me hours to fall a sleep and I sleep for 3 or 4 hours at a time and then I can't fall back asleep for a long time after. So I am really glad that I join this team. I am so stoked to learn new ways of falling and staying asleep for a solid 8 hours and the tricks to turn on my brain at night. I have a lot of stress in my life right now. No job and no friends except for the ones here at sparks. Thanks for having me.

I have always had insomnia, but now, at 53 it is really getting me down. I wake up tired. I'm really excited about a 4 week program to fix something I've been fighting for 53 years!

I am just tired of being tired. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have the c-pap machine. It has not helped much. I am hoping this challenge will help.

Hello everyone

For the last 5 years I've only been able to sleep 5-6 hrs a day. I can take a 10min nap but I that is all I can do.

I really would like to get a decent night sleep. Hope I can achieve it on this team emoticon

Hi everyone, I'm Katherine. I have a hard time falling asleep many nights. I just can't seem to turn my brain off. It typically takes me anywhere from 45 min to 3 hours to fall asleep. I hope to bring that time down to 30 minutes or less. Hopefully this challenge will help! Thanks everyone for your support!

~ Katherine

Hi, I'm Sher

My goal is to get at least 7+ hours a night of lovely sleep. I tend to be a night owl but always I'm up at 6am. Go figure... I need to hit the bed early.

Hi,

I have trouble getting to sleep (both falling asleep and getting to bed on time are problems), and so I have problems getting up and to work on time.

My reason for joining this Challenge is so I can get to work on time every day, and make my boss happy!

I sleep pretty well, but too often I turn the lights out too late. I've found that even 30 minutes makes a difference. So I'm aiming for lights out at 10:30 (I try to get up at 5:40 to go to the gym every weekday that I can manage).

10:30 lights out means I need to be showering or done showering (preferably) and all that goes with that (pills, teeth brushed, clothes prepped for tomorrow -both gym outfit and clothes to change in to) - by 9:30. Best nights are when I'm in bed with a book by 9:30. Love to read myself sleepy.

If I get a good night's sleep and get up and do a good gym workout, I feel so much better all day....

Main Goals: Eat better and less of it. Move more.

Secondary Goal: Go from low 160s to anywhere in the 150s. 145 would be great.

Hi! I just joined this challenge today. Not too long ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Now I sleep with a C-PAP unit. My sleep has improved. I wake up rested, with more energy to do the things that must be done. The C-PAP has totally changed my life. I no longer sleep my days away. This is a great challenge. So much of our health is affected by our sleep quality. It's so important to monitor our sleep habits.

Hi - I'm Debi and I've been on SparkPeople off and on for a couple of years. I've really increased my activity level, but I'm having trouble getting a handle on reducing calorie intake. I find that when I'm tired, which is most of the time, I make bad food decisions. I tend to use the time after my DD and DH go to bed as "me" time, then lose track of time because I'm a bit of a night owl. I'm hoping that being a part of this team will help me to get myself to sleep earlier and eliminate distractions to getting closer to 8 hours of sleep and waking up without my alarm clock. :)

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

I was so happy to find this team. I am desperate to get a good nights sleep. My husband only sleeps a few hours each night.I am a light sleeper so when he gets up, snores, or turns over it wakes me up. I end up gaining weight from lack of rest. When I get 8 hours of sleep I tend to lose weight. 2 days ago we decided that for a time, until I can get a good nights sleep, we would stay in separate rooms. The only thing is he goes into this poor me guilt trip and I end up not being able to get to sleep anyway. I was so desperate to rest this morning that when I saw this team I joined ASAP. I am expecting good sleep to start tonight and will implement the breathing techniques to let go and relax before going to bed. Hopefully I will be able to learn enough to not have to be in a different room from my hubby for long. I am looking for answers and think this team will be a HUGE help.

I joined this team because I have had years of "lack of sleep" and I've noticed medical issues arising because of it. I need to train myself to go to bed at a certain time and get up at a certain time. I need more sleep. I think it is one of the key factors in achieving my weight loss goals. Here's to a good night's sleep.

I decided to be on this team cause sleep is just not something I think I get as much of as I need. I do take a few meds to help me sleep, & they do help & lately, I've been going to bed earlier (& somemornings, getting up earlier, because of it). Grrr.... I guess I figure one can't really do too much to try & sleep...well, within reason, anyway. Btw, I'm Jennifer, nice to meet everyone, if I don't know you already. I'm still trying to jumble life, SP, & well, life...I think I'm getting it, telling myself more positive things, working out more... these are good things. Ok, I'm babling. Have a good night! emoticon

Hi everyone, I decided to start the sleep challenge today because I have a hard time getting quality sleep. I am a single mother of 3 boys,I am employed full time and I am studying criminal justice/psychology....working hard on my BS. I am up all night sometimes writing papers for school or studying. This leads to long stressful days at work, I somehow manage though. I am open for advice, tips and any helpful strategies from anyone. Hope to get to meet you all and that we can each help one another in some way. Enjoy your day everyone!

I'm so glad I found this team! I'm not getting near enough sleep...2 and a half hours last night. What is going on? Maybe being on a team with sleep as a goal will help!

Hi. I am Sylvia. Glad I found this team. I, too, am a night owl and function on 4-6 hours of sleep. The reason is that I like to read until the book starts falling out of my hands. I think that the accountability factor of this team will assist me in making a better choice. I wake up 2-3 times to go to the bathroom. My goal is to start getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. That means that I need to put the book down, turn off the lights and shut my eyes by 9:45 pm. I do have mild sleep apnea and a CPAP that I am not currently using. Will reclean all the pieces and start using it tomorrow night (Saturday, June 5th.

Hi, I'm Anne. I've been with SP since Feb. 2009. I joined this challenge to improve my sleep quality. I sometimes wake up aroud 3:30 and don't go back into a deep sleep until I get up. I use a sleep mask, ear plugs, and many, many blankets and pillows to sleep with. I often listen to the radio on sleep mode to go to sleep and I will take naps some days for 15-45 min max. I want to work on sleeping without aids, including cold/allergy pills, and the ones I mentioned earlier. I like the team so far, thanks for being here, time for bed!! Take care, emoticon

I have cycles.... sometimes I fall asleep easily and sleep all night. Sometimes I can't get to sleep and then once I do, I sleep. Sometimes I trouble sleeping. For about 9 months, I couldn't get to sleep (anxiety?) and had to rely on a sleep aid, but for the past 8 months, I have been doing OK on my own. The past few weeks though, I have been staying up too late. I will be ready to fall asleep on the couch but when I go to bed, I can't sleep, so I read... I function OK on 6-7 hrs or best at 9 - 10 hrs sleep best. I have fibromyalgia, so it is important that I get a decent night's sleep.

Hello! Here is my cycle..........I tend to go to bed late, and wake up 2-3 times during the night. It's hard for me to wake up in the mornings, and I'm usually tired during the day, yet when it comes time for me to go to bed its very difficult for me to fall asleep.

Hi,
I'm Diane, at best I get 5 hours of sleep. I'm basically a nite owl. At times, I have pushed myself to stay up later even if I'm feeling sleepy. Sometimes I feel as though I'm Dracula because the night time just feels right to me..lol,lol. I don't have trouble falling to sleep generally but would like to adjust my body clock in order to wake up feeling refreshed. Presently, I need at least an hour after waking up to 'get going'.

Hello, thanks for creating this team/challenge! I usually don't have problems falling asleep, but I have 2 problems: one, I work 12-hour night shifts 3 times a week, which completely disrupts my sleep schedule, and two, I usually get up at least twice during my sleep to use the bathroom, sometimes more. Not great! Also, of course I don't sleep enough! When I work at night, I am lucky if I can get 6 hours of sleep during the day. When I don't work, I aim to get 8 hours of sleep, but usually only get 7, sometimes only 6 1/2 hours!! I need more than that!! Result is, I am always tired during the day!
I am gladly taking on this challenge, can't wait to see the results at the end of the month!

Hi, my name is Karis. I joined the challenge because I usually don't get a good night's sleep - I usually wake up at least 2-3 times at night (more if I am feeling particularly stressed, when I wake up to think about what is stressing me), at least once to use the bathroom. My job is stressful (I'm a school psychologist in an urban system) but I love it, and I function so much better when I sleep well.

I know my problem is my work as I work backshift 2 days a week and day shift 3 days a week so my sleep schedule is off....

Hoping to get some tips for when I do sleep and how to increase my sleep hours.

Hi, I'm Annie. You'd think someone who got 9 out of 10 on that sleep quiz would know to do the right things. But I still wake up a lot (3-4 times a night) and have trouble falling asleep most of the time.

I've been on SP since Feb 2010 and lost 18 pounds so far. I love the food tracker, it's teaching me how to make better choices. I'm hoping that the Better Sleep Challenge will teach me how to get myself better resting hours.

I'm located in Pacific Daylight Time.

Hi. My name is Cathy. I have been a member of sparkpeople for a little over a year. I had made quite a bit of progress with Sparkpeople until about five months ago, partly due to my husband's job changing (thus changing my schedule), and partly due to a extremely low vitamin d level. Now that I have a handle on things again, I am setting goals for myself to take back control of my life. I don't function very well without an average of 8 hours of sleep a night. I hope to get my sleep schedule back on track so that I can start losing weight and begin to get healthy again.

HI........my name is Barbara and I am hoping to get better sleep. With my calf/back pain, sometimes it is hard to settle down to sleep; there are times it wakes me up, and then I have a hard time getting back to sleep!!!! Best wishes to all!!

Barbara .....that's what my friends call me! Never cared for the name Barb.

Make it a blessed and healthy day! IT IS YOUR CHOICE!

Remember how special you are and how you are soooooo worth it to be healthy and fit!!

Hello everyone,
My name is Amy, I have been with SP since August 09. I am leader of 3 teams. I have had sleeping or lack of sleep issues for many years. In fact, my sisters and I joke that if there were an "insomnia gene" our family would have it. I want to learn tips to help sleep better.....I have lost 65 lbs...and am so proud of my accomplishment....now to fix the sleep issue....

Welcome everyone! It's great to see others with the same issue!

I'm Cathy. I've successfully removed 110 pounds of unwanted body fat and maintained that for 8 years. I'm using Spark and Weight Watchers to lose the 40 pounds that I've yo-yo'd with for the past 8 years. I know that not getting enough sleep is one of my issues. One problem that has hindered me is starting a new medication that causes me trouble falling asleep.

This challenge came along at just the right time for me!

Cathy

My name is Sheila & joined SparkPeople a year ago. A 7-8 hours a night sleep has been elusive for me since just before I gave birth the first time almost 6 years ago. I currently average 6 hrs. a night & am a very light sleeper. If I could get 7 hours sleep 4 days a week that would be super. emoticon Know it would do so much for my energy level & metabolism.

Seize the day because you are not promised tomorrow :o)

Hello there!
My name is Usha. I'm glad to have found this team because I'm looking to improve the quantity and quality of my sleep. Only three hours last night. I have help from my physician but I could do a better job of night time rituals, going to bed at the same time every day ... doing the things I can and letting go of the things I can't control.
