Hi Cindy..SparkPeople has been very supportive and motivating for me! I can't imagine what things would be like if I didn't have this in my life. Hi Sara! Nice to meet you. I'm glad to hear that another school is doing the biggest Loser competition..must be going around! The teachers at my kids school is doing the same! Wow, 12 pounds! That's great! I'm with you on waiting on the warmer weather to get outside and get moving...though my workouts consist of workout dvds, I can't wait to get out and start planting and digging in the dirt..I'll just be burning that many more calories! Keep up the great work!

Hello everyone!
My name is Wendy and I’ve been learning about Sparkpeople since Nov 2009, joined not too long after that. I have 3 adult children and 2 absolutely wonderful grandchildren ages 12 and 9, with whom I totally enjoy spending time with. I live in Madison WI. I was pointed in the direction of Sparkpeople by my nutritiontist, who was trying to guide me on my quest to lower extremely high triglycerides. I quit smoking back in October and got serious about the rest of my health picture and have lost 16 pounds so far. Traded the compulsion to smoke in for the compulsion to exercise and I’m pretty satisfied with how this is working out. My husband is pleased as well.

Hi everyone!
I'm Sara and I joined on Jan. 13, 2010. I have 3 kids, live in Michigan, and I'm a teacher. We started a Biggest Loser competition at work just before I found Spark. I have lost 12 pounds so far, and have made getting up early to walk/run on the treadmill a priority. It's not so bad anymore, now that it's in my routine. I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can get outside for my workouts!

Hello All!

I'm Angie and I joined on 1/11/10. I just found this team. I'm live in Southern Idaho and have been here for 4 years. I'm originally from Northern California. I have 1 girl and 3 boys and they all keep me very busy. I'm going to be 40 in a year and I am wanting to be more active and healthy. I try to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Since I started I have more energy and I don't feel so sluggish!

I don't think I introduced myself here so I will now.
Hi! I'm Jess or Red as my in laws call me. I am one of the new team leaders and am so excited about it! I have been married for a little over a year to my best friend and high school sweetheart. We got a dog at the beginning of the year. His name is Sirius (as in Sirius Black from Harry Potter) and he is a 4 1/3 month old black toy poodle. I love both my boys to death! My parents and my sister joined Spark a while ago and when I finally decided it was time to change my bad eating habits and lose some of my excess weight, I joined too. I am completely hooked! My husband and I have both been working hard to eat better and get in better shape. I just started the C25K program and my husband plans to do it with me whenever he can. I just have to say that I love the new life I have created for myself! I feel great, I look great (not where I want to be yet, but so much better than where I was), and I am happy and much healthier!

Hi All!
My name is Laura. I just moved from Vancouver to Ottawa last year with my husband. This will be our first summer in our first house. My husband and I have had to move around a lot for his work so we never made a lot of friends which equils boredom, which equils going out for dinner a lot, which equils weight gain. I have gained almost 80 pounds in the 6 years we have been married and its time to get rid of it!! I can't wait to be able to enjoy the kinds of activities I did before I became overweight. I bought a treadmill last month and its ben an adventure(to say the least) learning tolove exercise ( see blog LOL) Looking forward to interacting with some cool people, motivating and being motivated. Hi There! I just noticed I never introduced myself, which is odd seeing as I roam the boards I never seem to post anything. At any rate I'm Amanda. I'm married to a great husband and we have a fantastic dog. Ive been married for 8 years and I'm 27. Because I have such a fantastic relationship I let my body slip. hi folks.
i am a home schooling mom of 10, my oldest is 13 (no multiples). i started sparkpeople with a starting goal of 39 lbs by my 39th birthday (my bigger goal is to lose about 100 probably all told, but that is too big to think about).
so i lost 17 lbs in 4 wks, but it was pretty consuming. then the superbowl hit (just an excuse to eat stupidly) and i had a couple nieces stay for a week, then valentine's day (another excuse), and now we're staying up late watching the olympics, and i've put 3 back on . . .
so i thought i'd check in here and get (and hopefully give) a little support.
my starting weight was 234.5, i'm 5'1", and today i probably weight 221 or so. so 195 is my initial goal.

Hi, my name is Terri. I am from Montana & I am a 34 year old Stay At Home Mom, well...kind of! I actually have 2 (very) PT jobs & a VERY active 13 year old daughter, so staying home isn't really an option most days. I also have a 5 year old son, who LOVES sports and can hardly wait to play on a team like his big sis does.

My hubby works 2 full time jobs & has just joined SP also, originally to be supportive to me, however, he seems to have gained his own "Health Spark" in the process.

Since my son was born, my weight has skyrocketed! I actually didn't gain weight from the pregnancy, but rather AFTER it. I was in the 160 range right after I had him & have since gained 65 pounds in the past 5 years!! I finally hit another new high for me just after the new year (225) and just decided that day that I needed to put an end to the rising numbers on the scale. I started watching what I was eating a little bit & then several days later, I was chatting with a friend on the phone & she told me about SP. I hadn't told her that I was wanting to lose weight, but she just happened to be on the site while I was talking to her, so I jumped online & registered just to check it out. I have been here EVERY day since then tracking ALL of my food & water & my exercise. I am currently down to 215.6!!

I just finally tonight found this team, so here I am, ready & excited to be a Spark!!

Just wanted to share this - my brother, who is 5 years younger than me at the age of 39, lost 45 pounds over the last 10 months! When I asked him what he was down to, he said 186, which is VERY good for a guy who is 5' 10" (one inch taller than me). Since I'm at 232 (down 11 pounds since last August), I asked him what his secret was and whether diet or exercise was more important (kind of a "trick question" since I know both are important). He confirmed that both were important but said if he had to pick one, diet was the most important (which I can see him giving the edge to with all the bad chemicals, salts, sugars, etc. in many foods today). One thing to note is that my brother is a vegetarian; anyway, he said that he noticed the biggest drops when he cut out "potato, pasta, and bread".

I told him that I had just gotten a grilled chicken sandwich with sun-dried tomato for lunch but that I had fries with it (which I told him I knew was a no-no). He said, "Yeah, and think about the bun from the sandwich too". So I think I'm going to follow his advice and watch "potato, pasta and bread" from now on, as well as tracking what I eat here.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

Hi, this is my second goround with Spark and I vow to be successful this time. I have some new health problems which make it more difficult, but more neccessary, to lose weight. My goal this time is to be more active and involved on spark people. I just basically used the food tracker before and I feel like I really need to utilize the community aspect of it to be successful this time!

Hi everyone! My name is Lu and I am new to Spark people. I have tried many different diet plans with some luck, but nothing that has ever enabled me to make the "lifestyle change" that keeps weight off.
I used to LOVE going to the gym, however I suffered a back injury (from poor form at the gym - which is why I am so excited there are demo's for many exercises I have been wanting to try but afraid to do so without proper instruction)My injury has slowed me down quite a bit since April. I have been recovering through physical therapy, but definitely gained weight from not curbing my eating habits while burning less calories then I did when I was diligently going to the gym.

I recently quit smoking and I am very excited to stay healthy and get to my goal weight. I am so glad there is a site like this that helps people get and stay motivated to attain their goals.

Hi all,

I'm a 44-year-young dad of 3 kids who recently became unemployed. I'm 5' 9" and 234 pounds; I've actually lost about 9-10 pounds over the last 3 months since I haven't been going out to restaurants nearly as much as I used to. However, I have 33-43 more pounds to lose (my doctor says 20 is more realistic as I haven't been at 193 since 15 years ago!). Not only is it challenging to find additional work but it's also hard to motivate myself to even go for a walk.

About six months ago, I noticed that my blood pressure was creeping up - it had normally been about 120/80 but then I started seeing approximately 139/89 - apparently not consistent enough to raise concerns with my doctor as he still only has me on cholesterol medication (which, in my case, has proven to be hereditary). This pre-hypertension may have subsided since I've lost weight and increased my intake of fruits and vegetables; my cholesterol is totally normal at 171 but again I definitely want to get back to exercise (and making it as "fun" as possible so I don't do it only short-term).

hi I'm mandee. I'm 33, about to be 34, and I am tired of not being myself. For ten years now I have been carrying around the weight from having my twins. I had dropped 60 lbs , but it came back. My sister told me about this site and it is pretty exciting. I have been sick the past week and have not been able to begin properly. Hi, I am a 55 year old jack of trades on computers whose most physically demanding hobby is wildfires. I lost 80 pounds years ago, but has since put on 30 which I need to lose while keeping muscle. My main motivation should be health since I am now taking what my friends call old age pills. But my real motivation is I want to work on a fire crew one more time.

Hi I am Pam. I work for a Health and Wellness Fitness Center. One of my jobs there is a spinning instructor. I am having trouble balancing my time with trying to exercise more, logging my exercise and diet and navigating this site. I am going to give it my best shot and try not to give up.

Hi I'm Faith... I'm 30. I'm a public defender, and the stress of my job has been getting to me more and more, so I have finally decided to do something about it. I hadn't weighed myself for about a year until last week, and was pretty dismayed when I stepped on the scale, but I have lost a few pounds already...

I have been going to spinning classes 3x per week for about a month, and have completed the first two days of c25k which I think is super hard!

It's so nice to have the support of everyone else on this website! Look forward to "meeting" some of you...

I am just getting oriented here at Spark People - and loving it! Wow - the motivation here is incredible. I teach a class called "Influencer" and have found this site touches on every strategy of influence I teach others! In other words - why didn't I think of this!? ;) Well - I probably didn't because I need the help. I kinda like this idea of the blind leading the blind, and the experienced leading the way! Hello

Finally a day off and I can catch up on all my little projects. My name is Velynda and I live in Maine. I am a single parent and my 13 year old daughter lives at home with me. I also have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren all living in Nevada.

I started doing Sparkpeople in 2007 under the name onecrzywmn, but after a few months I stopped, not sure why now. I wish I would have stuck with it and I would be at my goal by now. Oh well, it is a new beginning. I have about 75 pounds to reach my goal weight, but am working on 25 at a time, so my goal is to be at 200 lbs by my birthday in April.

Hi,

I want to introduce myself and have no idea if I am doing this right! SPARKPEOPLE looks great to me as I work out of my home and don't always find it easy to be in contact with a supportive network. I am pursuing the well-being that comes from a healthy lifestyle of fitness and healthy eating. I would like to lose 8 pounds but find they are incredibly stubborn! I find when I tell people I have 10 or less pounds to lose they don't take me seriously. I know, though, how easily I could put on another ten if I ignore them.

I am hoping my experience in health could support others and I'd love to learn from others struggling with a plateau as I am.

Hello everyone, my name is Genie and I live in Wisconsin with my husband Cal (who also joined by the way!).

We both joined for the usual reasons, to get fit and healthy AND lose weight. We needed some place to track everything and found this site.

I have been a member for about a week now and there is so much yet to learn. My husband and I are determined to stick this out and by doing it together, we keep each other "honest".

My past track record with weight loss has been that I get bored with it after about a month. I know that I should change things up to keep it interesting, but that never seems to work. Any suggestions in this area will help me keep on track!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to SP and am still quite overwhelmed by this site and all it has to offer. I have somewhat of a sedentary job, and I don't usually count calories so I have put on a few pounds. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day will definitely be a big challenge for me...I'm more of a tea drinker. Hi, my name is Joana. I will be 34 in just about 11 days and I have a beautiful 3 year old girl. I have decided to grow up and finally start taking good care of my health and my body since you can't just those at Amazon if you ruin the ones you have :)

I am married, I work full time and I am very active at my church...I am also planning on becoming a certified Translator (2 year course) and I have just started my 2year course to become a certified Biblical counselor...oh, have I mentioned I had a toddler and we are trying for baby #2??? For many years I used my busy schedule as an excuse to be unhealthy but God opened my eyes to the fact that I can't do much good if I ruin my health and shorten my lifespan so I accepted my sister's invitation to join SparkPeople. I love it so far...it's a bit overwhelming with soooooooo many features but it's a great tool and I will keep trying to lear all about it and get the most out of it.

I signed up for 35 days of Nutrisystem food to help me get a jump start this new year but I plan to drop that and go back to making my own food, measuring it all and carrying my insulated food back to work :)

I am looking forward to meeting like-minded people and sharing this journey with new friends.

I have spent hours and hours this week trying to get acquainted with this wonderful website...it has kept me away from the refrigerator. Also, I have a nasty cold and don't have much of an appetite, so I'm feeling pretty thin after only 4 or 5 days. I managed to get down 8 glasses of water yesterday for the first time! Yippee! I am attempting to do the scavenger hunt for this team, because it looks like a good way to learn how to get the most out of this website. I lost 80 pounds and kept it off for 4 years; now it is creeping back. I lost the weight in a tough 12-Step program. I am hoping SparkPeople is the answer for getting back to my normal weight.

Hi there, everyone!
I'm Kris, I live in Las Vegas and I have about 20 lbs. that I would like to lose. I don't have any kids, but I do have 2 cats and a skinny boyfriend. I've been slightly overweight for quite a while now, everyone once in a while I drop down to my goal weight (by sheer luck, really, not dieting or anything), but I always end up gaining most of it back. I just want to have more energy and not feel so self conscious in front of my boyfriend. Like I said, he's a skinny one, so I'm using him as part of my motivation. I'd also like to have a child in the next couple of years and I want to be healthy and fit when I take on that journey. It's really hard to stay motivated when it's cold outside so I thought that sparkpeople could help me with my motivation, and I always like meeting new people with similar goals, plus I love cooking, and want to delve in to all the new recipes. I wish everyone the best of luck, and all the motivation they need to reach their goals.

Hi, guys! I'm a 30 year old new mom, and I'm working on becoming fit in all aspects so that I can be a good role model for my daughter. Today is Day 5 of SP for me, but it is the first day I've had time to sit down and explore the website. I'm a 28y/o pharmacist who has 25lbs to lose. I have gained this weight in nearly 3 years of eating hospital cafeteria food. I've never understood how a hospital can serve such unhealthy food, but it is so convienent. Hi! I'm Jennifer, a mother of 3 and a high school English teacher. Hi, my name is Rowan. I'm new to SP but am excited to find it. Since the birth of my son, my husband & I have had to stop our weekend warrior lifestyle and really packed on the weight. Hi today is day 1, i have been here before but it has taken a while to get my head round the website and be miserable enough to seriously want to change my life. This time i am going to do it.

hello all,

Hello All! I am a 29 year old bride to be. I have struggled with my weight for the past 6 years. I am currently on thyroid meds and would love to stop taking them. I need all the motivation I can get from you all. My wedding is set for Oct 16, 2010 and I am already down 15lbs with just diet and exercise alone. I want to look my best when I walk down the aisle. I am excited to start. Let's go~ emoticon
