Donna, I found your thoughts from your SW class very helpful. I am one of those who can be guilty of comparing myself with others who lose a lot each week when if lucky lose 1.5lbs. My best losses in the nearly two years I have been going on and off have been 4.5 and 3.5 lbs. And both times it was because I had limited myself to 5 syns a day for the week.

I think when I return I will only use 10 syns a day as I believe when I first did SW that is what you were given and hopefully then I will have reasonable and steady losses. I don't mind losing slowly as long as the overall picture is downward to my target.

I just read your cafe post well done on your loss this week - that is brilliant.

Lisa

Taking it one day at a time to reach my goal :-)

Thanks for sharing that Donna...
Personally I sometimes wonder why members start their journey when they join sw, albeit online or home alone with their books. We're all following the same programme.
If they start halfheartedly is it hardly surprising they can lack confidence and start comparing themselves with others.
I think it's important to focus on ourselves and what we want out of weight loss.
At my group members who are struggling are encouraged (amongst other things) to make a for & against list.
It really concerns me how many members begin and then we never see them again...
Just my thoughts....

You are in a good class Donna. We all need reminding we are all different, I do not find the success stories in magazines inspire me. They all had very fattening life styles, not quite deep fried Mars bars but not far off. So of course once on healthy eating they lost pounds,
I wonder how many kept it off?
I am a plodder and always have been ,half a pound off is a big event . I don't worry over weight as much now as how I feel. I know after indulgences my tummy and digestion tell me I shouldn't have had that,
Let's be kind to the plodders ! Irene

COMPARISON TRAP - my consultant told this story on Tuesday this week.

When you feel about others at class losing more weight than you how do you feel?

We often feel jealous, sad, not good enough, we put ourselves down, we can have a dark side, we may feel we never 'measure up'.

LOSING OR MAINTAINING IS MORE IMPORTANT!

We can compare what we see as their strength in losing a larger amount as our weakness!

Even on social media we have a habit of comparing ourselves and online there are 100's of people to compare ourselves with!

It can make you feel negative and agitated with yourself! emoticon

SELF COMPASSSION IS NEEDED! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Remember APPLES and PEARS are not the same! We all Slim completely differently, EVERYONE'S WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

By judging yourself harshly you could be pouring cold water on your own success!
GOALS are ONLY MOTIVATING IF THEY ARE ACHIEVABLE!

Think about your blessings!
Compare yourself only with you - focus on your own journey, no one elses - THINK OF THE BIGGER PICTURE.
Put before and after photos on your phone gallery and/or your fridge - keep thinking about the whole picture.

We had another taster week yesterday...so much variety! Of course mostly includes chicken, wheat and dairy...all no-nos for me. But I took some Asda vegetarian sausages and many said how nice they were.
I ate some mini meringues, fresh raspberries and a smidge of yogurt. Satisfied my sweet tooth!! I have been avoiding the such for a while to really kick start this weigh loss!

My class was this morning and I really love to listen to all the pounds lost every week, it's a great encouragement. Some ladies have lost 4 or 5 stone...that is amazing!!
This week my old school friend who just happened to join the same week as me got her 1 stone lost and was also slimmer of the week! How great is that!!
I'm working hard and liking the consistent results I'm getting now. Every week I hear new tips and ideas from the leader and the members which gives me new ideas.

I've heard tell about other consultants not being so good. Ours is excellent, a real character! I like her and as we have a couple of older men there we have quite a laugh! We seem to have several new members joining every week. Maybe it's the time of the year?

Sorry Janet I wasn't very clear, I would say normally 45% of those being weighed do leave after being weighed but last week the consultant wasn't there as her hubbie had booked her a last minute holiday away in Wales to celebrate her 50th birthday and the replacement lady - no one will stay for! Nicola our consultant is great but the other lady isn't.
I didn't do myself justice though as I was the second on the list and the other lady didn't stay so I got the fruit and really enjoyed it emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Donna x

Donna, do you mean everyone mostly leaves once they've weighed in? We have a proportion of that too but not very many.
I'm happy you got the fruit, you deserved it! emoticon

Oh Janet you so deserved the Slimmer of the Week, 5lb is a great loss. However it does depend on who else has stayed. I only got SOW because no one else had stayed at my club - well only two people and I stayed to welcome the new lady Pam. I love fruit so it was well worth staying!
3.5lbs was a great loss for me too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon for both of us! Donna x

My class last Wednesday was so lively....so many people and everyone chatting. I'm really feeling that I'm getting to know a few members now.
Next week we have to vote for the Woman of the Year, not sure who I will vote for though.
I really thought I could be slimmer of the week having lost 5lbs but no, a lady was down 7lbs! I was happy for her, what an amazing loss in one week!!

Donna looks like 100g of peas is 3 1/2 on red plan. I've booked marked my SW website and use it often to check syn values.

Ree I've heard tell from members at my class that others aren't very friendly etc, same about WW too. Ours is a large group of about 30 ladies and 3 men...the consultant is really able to involve everyone and seems to ask the right questions when she goes through the weigh ins... Everyone feels free to comment and offer constructive advise and we certainly have a good laugh. I may not know many people's names but I know plenty to chat to. The day I joined an old school friend of mine arrived and joined up too and although we sit together that doesn't stop us chatting to the people either side etc.
I know you want to try going it alone, the price for doing it online is bronze 59.95, sliver 64.95, gold 79.95. That says it's for 3 months membership. I paid 5 to join and 4.65 per week as an older person!! Hope that helps.

Well, my picnic food today was a great success, says my stomach! For some reason I'm not good with salads no matter what I put in them I'm always wanting something else soon afterwards, sometimes as I've chewed the last mouthful!
So today I did something you may turn your nose up at...I cooked two soya sausages, (yesterday I made a big pot of 3 bean chilli) chopped up the sausages added some 3 bean chilli, cooked some cauliflower and green beans and put it all into a plastic container. I know it was cold but on a hot day that was fine and tasted so good and my, was it filling too.

Oops guys I realised I made a big mistake today! Syns going to be very high I think - I've been trying to do the Red eating plan and didn't read the book again! Just remembered though that peas 4 for 100g - not sure how many are in 100g, better weigh them tomorrow and not eat them (there are lots ready in the garden to freeze), sweetcorn (cob - 5 syns), sweet potato (5 syns) - Oh dear it means less wine tomorrow emoticon Going to read that book again though. emoticon and have extra easy tomorrow as out for tea at friends house.

However your day sounded better Ree. emoticon emoticon and SW

Yes. Please let's treat this as a sw actual class and share weigh if we want to! And any recipes ideas etc which worked.
Today I did. Lunch of cold chicken slices, tomato, boiled egg , a laughing cow cheese triangle plus slices of melon and 2 Ryvita crisp breads no spread on for myself .very nice !

I understand that some classes are not great! I'm lucky my consultant provides two recipes to try for 20p, although she leaves it so late to talk - always gives us some ideas.

However this thread is hopefully to share ideas further between the SW members here on Spark. emoticon emoticon

Both those classes sound to be interesting with great ideas . All they did at one I went to was go round the group asking each one about their weigh in, everyone clapped and really that was it. We would all be asked if we could share any experiences but most sat in silence . It was boring and not very friendly. I felt like Billy no mates sat on my own . I did try to talk to others t most went with a friend so didn't want to talk much to anyone else ,I stopped going , I expected leader to contact me but she didn't. I am still. Looking at online but waiting to see if I can di it alone, what does online cost to join and monthly ? Ree

Thanks Donna for sharing all those relevant points and worth remembering.

Today at class we were divided into three groups and asked to compose a days eating and choose an occasion. We chose a summer picnic and used the cook books for some imaginative items to add.
Another group also chose a picnic but the third chose a BBQ.
It was a good exercise to do and got us really thinking.

Please feel free to share motivating thoughts from your classes here

My consultant reminded us the following last night 23/7/13

If we are not losing weight we need to consider:

are we in denial of what I am doing?
Do I cheat not write it down
pretend it didn't happen
habit
kidding myself?
Conveniently forget?

Is your food diary honest? Or does it say 'haven't I been good?! Maybe I'm not writing it all
down.

To get around this you need to complete a food diary correctly and honestly.

Do you have a munchy time of the day?

Various times were suggested, consider your own.

Often at these times we choose high syn food which is fast and tends to be a quick fix!

This could be due to poor planning.
Maybe haven't eaten enough during the day.

Negative thoughts breed negative results

THERE ARE NO VICTIMS IN THE WEIGHT LOSS WAR ONLY VOLUNTEERS! emoticon

You can't control events only you can control yourself!

Every accomplishment starts with a decision! I plan to try to make the best decisions!
