Welcome! Sounds like you have a good plan! I am eager to shed some menopausal weight too.

Low carb is a great diet and Atkins is excellent. We have members who do it.

Hi, I'm Ana!

The only way I've tried successfully to lose weight is LOW-CARB. I did last year with excellent results, losing almost 30 pounds in less than 3 months. Then, different stress and drama sources got me and I slipped of the wagon too many "Just for today" times. I'm trying to eliminate stress getting far from challenges, drama and other things I can control, and getting auriculotherapy to stay calmed, quite difficult in this planet.

I'm following a strict low-carb diet, very similar to the Induction in the New Atkins, I slipped of the wagon once last week and regained some water pounds that, thanks God, I got rid of them. It wasn't nice, so I'm fighting to glue myself to the wagon, no matter how rough is the railroad!

I'm married, 54, have a teen son and a husband, both athletic, and my cat.

I want to get ready of obesity and THEN, I'll follow something similar to the Phase II of Atkins. Trying to eat as healthy as possible for my budget.

Have all of you a very nice week!

Thanks, God for all the Blessings that we have and all the Blessings that we are receiving!

I also attempt to be gluten free for the same reason.

For me, I did low carb and gluten free. I believe that this decreased the inflammation in my body and allowed me to lose weight. All my inflammatory markers from my blood work went from very high/extreme risk to low risk.

I believe gluten intolerance is present in a lot of these cases where one can never lose weight or when one yo yos a lot.

If the mind mends, the body will follow.

You might do some research on line to choose a low carb plan. Look at the allowed and avoid foods and that usually helps people narrow it down. Low carb is usually any where from 20gms net carbs a day up to 150gms net carbs a day. The exercise will really help. We concentrate on fresh meat, fish, eggs, fresh veggie, fresh fruits, seeds, nuts, healthy fats, and some of us also include some dairy, legumes, and a small amount of minimally processed grains.

Hi, All- My name is Sherry I am 46. I'm new here and new to the low carb lifestyle. I tend to lose and gain the same 2-3 pounds every week, nothing else is helping and my sister suggested low carb. I usually get about 200 minutes of intentional activity per week, getting ready to up that to 20 - 25 minutes of cardio daily with 30 minutes of strength training 3 times per week and yoga 3 times a week. Any advice is appreciated!!

Becca gave you some good advice. I eat in that range too and chiefly concentrate on low glycemic veggies and fruits plus a few moderate ones. I don't avoid any veggies but eat starchy ones sparingly and usually one or less a day. I eat beans occasionally. I eat 3 servings of fruit a day and only avoid ones with concentrated sugars - no fruit juice, dried fruit, dates, figs, raisins. I don't want too much natural sugar so I watch to make sure I am not being triggered. I also get my carbs from a serving a day of seeds and nuts, a low sugar yogurt, almond milk, and cheese. I eat fresh meat, seafood, fish, eggs, and healthy fats too like olive oil and I eat some butter. I tend to avoid most grains and only have certain ones occasionally, like quinoa which has a lot of protein in it. I have rice occasionally. I avoid processed foods, wheat, and sugar.

A suggested menu is

For breakfast - have eggs with either uncured bacon, uncured sausage, uncured ham as much as you need to be satisfied but not stuffed. A small piece of fruit if you want.

For lunch - a salad with greens and low sugar or no sugar dressing, plus a generous serving of meat to be satisfied. Some low glycemic salad veggies in the salad and/or a small piece of fruit if you want.

For supper - a generous serving of meat, a salad with the same dressing plus a low glycemic veggie with butter or olive oil, or 2 if you don't want the salad and a piece of fruit if you have the carbs.

For a snack - some nuts, seeds, deviled eggs, cheese, tuna, olives, uncured cold cuts or jerky with no sugar, cheese crisps, pepperoni crisps, kale chips, mini quiches, pork rinds, avocados, pickles, fat bombs, stuffed mushrooms, meatballs, etc.

I try to eat around 100 to 125 net carbs per day. It keeps my appetite down. I try to stay away from breads and rice and eat carbs like sweet potatoes and certain fruit (oranges, apples, cantaloupes).

I shop the perimeter of the store basically for the meats, fruits, veggies....

Gross carbs minus fiber grams= net carbs.
