Howdy, a newbie from Texas. I have friends who kayak and geocache on nearby waterways here in Central Texas and it sounds like fun and good exercise. So I am wanting to give it a try. I have been doing a lot of reading and comparing. Decided, I want to first rent a couple of different types of kayaks and test for a match to my 5'4" 193 lbs body. Even though I am kinda leaning toward the semi sit on top 8' kayak with 220 cm paddle. It still seems like it would be a little awkward in trying to handle the loading and unloading by myself but I have been told it gets better with practice. My biggest concern is doing this by myself. I strongly feel the need for a buddy system, guess that stems from all the years of my children were in scouting. Any suggestions on where to buy Kayak and accessories? Which accessories are upfront must haves?
