My little sunshine's name is Tallulah Rae. She will be 6 this summer (we think). My dad found her running across a busy street and saved her, she still had her leash on. We spent a month trying to find her family but no luck. Plus I don't think they should have gotten her back anyways because her ears were horrible. Full of black nastiness and cost us a lot of money. We've had her now for 5 years and she is spoiled. Everyone that meets her falls for her. She loves the guys and will pull the leash just to get to them. She is a mix, King Charles with Beagle. You know she is part beagle with her bark and howl.

Welcome aboard! Your dogs are beautiful! One vet tech at our vets shows Tollers. I've only met one Kooikerhondje though. At at park where my Basset & I go walkies, a gal has one that we see sometimes. I first thought it was a Springer/Border Collie mix! Really cool, sweet dog! Looking forward to hearing stories about your kids!

I had English Cockers growing up, which my parents bred one dog we had, and now I have American, Murphy and Sophie. I prefer English and I agree they are hard to find. For my next spaniel, I would like to have a Clumber or a Springer. We had a Springer when I was a toddler....many many many years ago.

My two English Cockers:

Quincy is the older chap, 12 years old come April 2011, but as agile as any young dog I know. He sleep a bit more now but is ready to go at a moment's notice...well, once his eyes adjust. He's had cataracts for some time and other than some more grays coming through on his muzzle and elsewhere, that's the only other sign that he's even a few years older! We've been a inseparable team since he came into my life 9 years ago, which also created such an en-grained love for this particular breed. I must say, they are very difficult to come by, but after a 5 year search I got lucky with a rescue litter I got word about.

Which brings me to my other, younger and very "inquisitive" one, Jafare. He just turned 2 in december 2010. He was 11 weeks when I brought him home and ohhhhh boy, a rather eventful year, I must say...HAH HAH!!! Although he and Quincy are similar in many ways, they are also so different. Jafare is very playful and in your face. Quincy is laid back and comes around when he's up to it. Both, are very affectionate, however Jafare has earned the name "JBug" for being the master at being a Snugglebug!! Quincy has picked up several nick names over the years; Q-Blue or QB ("b"lue roan being his color), QT (Quincy and "T" for his last name), and for being so handsome with that proper "English" face he has also been known as the G"Q" dog...lol

Can't wait to hear about your dogs!!

Hello, I'm happy to join this group! I love dogs and the first one we had when I was a child was a cocker spaniel. In years past we have had several dogs, but after we lost the last one to cancer, we went without for 15 years.

After we retired and moved to a new, smaller house, we again had time for a dog, but not a lot of room for a big one. I found the perfect little Cavalier King Charles spaniel pup. At 8 months old now K. C. is the perfect companion and she loves to go on walks with me! emoticon

Hello from Milton, WI. We have a english springer spaniel named Bailey. He will be four years old on the 29th. He has plenty of personality! He's really good with the neighbors kids and loves to play with other dogs. He broke his ACL this last summer so we are working on his rehab. Vet says he's doing great.

He's our first dog and we just love having him.

The little pup will be fine with lots of love. When we first had Sam and Tiger (rescues that went to my sister) they were scared of everything, now they act just as spoiled as the rest! They just needed some TLC.

I am sure with all your love and caring he will do just fine! Sophie was an abused dog and it took her a few days to warm up to me. Now she is my velcro dog and loves to be touched.

Well.. he's home! What a whirl wind, poor guy. He's younger then I thought just a slight bit over 6 months. Definitely a rescue pup, so lots of rehab coming his way. Very nervous around men, so leads me to think someone was none to kind with him in his little life. The lovely lady I got him from knew the home wasn't a good fit so that's quite alright. He is terrified of his crate, so rehabbing that (ie that is where the food and the water is) no staying in for hours on end, just door open and can go to and fro. Does not like loud noises, so working through that. My cousins significant other (male) loves dogs and is great with them so he is helping the rehab of pup.

He is quite a gentle soul, just more anxious/nervous then calm (although it is coming). He is learning to walk and even braved a puppy park yesterday (did great!) Needs a bath and grooming desperately (going on Tuesday) as I am fairly sure he probably has not had one :(

Welcome to the team! Can't wait to see pictures. The cockers I had growing up were all buff and all named Taffy. We only had multiples one time - Taffy and Candy, both buff. I currently have one buff (Sophie) and one parti sable and white (Murphy).

Gotta love Spaniels!!

I have always owned cocker spaniels since I was a little girl. My family's first spaniel, was Buffy. Then we had Valentino and Scotty (all 3 were buff). We then had Prissy (given to us when family owning her had a baby). Our next round of cocker spaniels were all parti colored. First we got Bunny, who was 8 at the time, a gift from a friend who breeds occasionally. Then we got Bunny's nephew Clyde as a puppy, he has an over-bite and is too cute. Then, we received Calvin when he was 6, step brother to Clyde. Bunny passed 2 January's ago from old age. Then Calvin passed last November from cancer :(. So we were left with a 10 year old neurotic Clyde. Our friends again had a litter this past October so we received 2 adorable pups from that litter (we even had them up on ustream for awhile, Charlene had a following). We got the buff/blonde Charlene and the sweet black dog Cooper. I will be posting pics of them soon. Charlene had a cleft lip when she was born, but our wonderful vet fixed her all up! Cooper is quite literally perfect. We would show him if we had the time.

The power to change, the courage to do, the will and drive to be exceptional lies within me, and by leaving my fears, my doubts, and my excuses behind, I embrace all that lies within me.

Cockers are really just smaller versions of the Springer. I did have a English Cocker that was quite large that you would have thought he was a Springer.

HOpe you can get some pictures posted of Spencer.

Well... I am making the switch over to spaniels. Really wanted an English springer but my living condiitons don't allow for that much running room. So for the next best thing a cutie named Spencer, aka 7 month old cocker.

Marcy, welcome to the team. You have your hands full with 2 young dogs and one that is blind. I had a cocker, Joey, who became blind due to glaucoma (had his eyes surgically removed) and had to learn to go up and down the steps outside. He did pretty good and he also played with a large ball. He didn't learn "hot or cold". He has since passed away and I missed him. I learned of a site called Cori's Vision. It was also for blind dogs. The girl that made this site has changed and added lots of things since she first started when I found her in 2006. I will have to check out your site. www.dognipmedia.com/corisvision.php

I have discovered a love for spaniels - despite the fact that I was originally looking for an American Eskimo! I have 2 fur babies - Cooper, a 14 month old cocker spaniel, and Kellar, an 8 month old springer spaniel. They are both special, but Kellar was born totally blind. He amazes me every day - we have even trained him to play fetch with a regular ball, and if he loses it, he responds to hot and cold commands to find it. Cooper acts as his "seeing eye dog". We recently started a website for Kellar to connect the parents of special needs animals, anyone can check it out at www.kellar.webs.com. We're looking forward to being a part of this group!

Keep smiling......it makes people wonder what you're up to.

I have 2 black cockers, Maggie and Kojo, and somehow we allowed a black lab to come live with us named Kloe;-) Mine actually enjoy a 2 mile jog with me from time to time!

I have a shelf full of cocker stuff too! Growing up, my family had several "Taffy's" - all blonds (buff), of course.

I have a black Cocker Spaniel named Misty! Actually, it's the second black cocker we've had named Misty. This second one looked so much like the first one, that we kept calling her Misty, so the name stuck.

I just signed up to this team. I'm excited because I have a black and white springer spaniel named Misty! She is my best friend! I collect anything I can find that looks like my girl. She is so smart that it takes one day to teach her a trick and now she knows many.

We had a liver and white Springer when I was little, then all the rest of dogs were cockers. I have 2 cockers now.

I got my very first Springer Spaniel about a month ago! He's about 4 months old, a liver/tri and I named him Eliot. Quite the little bundle of energy!

Hi Carlannie!
Thank you for the welcome. Star is my 4th cocker, my 1st black one. I only mention that because until she got some grey, pictures of her just looked like a ball of black fur with beady eyes! Few pictures did her justice. She's funny to walk with, very pokey at first but when she figures we are headed home, she can't get there fast enuf. But the responsibility of her health is what keeps me walking. I want her as long as possible. My last cocker lived to be 17, blind and deaf but always a sweetheart. SO glad to find this team!

Welcome, Peggy-Bee! It sounds as if I could have written that intro - our cocker is black with lots of gray hairs on her chin and beneath her ears, even her eye brows are now turning white. She is 10 and a half. I also deal with arthritis and know that getting some more weight off will certainly help my old bones. Walking my dog is great exercise, because she doesn't walk at a trot, oh, no. For her, it's always full speed ahead!!!

My baby is a 12 year old black cocker, Star. She acts and looks like a puppy, 'cept her muzzle is going grey. We got her as a puppy but the breeder was trying to sell the puppies as Christmas pups and separated them all too soon. Even tho we tried to have her with her mom longer, she was just 5 weeks old when we picked her up after Christmas and all her littermates had been picked up prior to Christmas. I wonder how they fared. Star just doesn't get it that she's a dog. She is terrified of other dogs but as sweet as can be with children and adults. She is just a joy until I go to groom her!

Hello Jan and McGee! Welcome to the team. I live in NW Ohio, I see you live in NE Ohio.

I hope you enjoy the team. We just have fun! I would have said hello sooner, but I was down to Columbus on Saturday to visit OSU's College of Veterinary Medicine. They had an open house and I wanted to see what it took become accepted as a student and to become a vet! It was very interesting to hear the 20-something students and I felt so out it as I am or will be 45 in less that 10 days. Being a vet has always been a dream of mine. I'm glad I went and if I had the money and could drop everything, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Hi!

I noticed this team on another friend's page and thought I should join so that I might connect with other people who own Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. My dog, McGee, is three years old. He is the most gentle dog in the world. He has been through all the obedience classes and is a certified therapy dog. We are in the process of taking an advanced Rally-O class right now. It is so much fun to do things together. He is my best buddy! McGee and I would love for you to stop by my page. I would especially love to hear from any other Cavalier owners.

I have a photo of him in my SP photo album - couldn't figure out how to post the photo here. The dog was overweight, but had a foster parent for awhile and lost 6 pounds, and now should probably lose about 8-10 more, and he'll be bounding with energy. The owners kept him in a little kennel box 9 hours a day or more! My son said he was just delighted to be out and run around and get loves and cuddles. His name is Turbo!

I just had to pop in here to say I was so excited today - I felt like a new grandma! My son (27) just got his first dog today and adopted one from the pound. And what kind did he get? A nice little black and white Cocker. He is so pleased to have rescued it and is certain to give it a good home. I can't wait 'til I can see the new addition to the family, but that's still two weeks away. Yep, I feel like a proud grandma . . .

Spaniels are terrific. Cavalier King Charles are my favorite, but love them all. Our cocker lived to be 18 years old and was such a sweetie. Gracie and Baxter (my sparkpage picture) bring joy and fun to our lives everyday. It's great to find this Spark Team.

Hi
So glad to learn of this team from another team member -143 Life. The black and white is Nickie - who is the mother of the Samson and Chanel. Another Sparkpeople person - has one of her sons - Breaux. They are all "party" american cockers - all I know is that they are loving - all different personalities - and the "special" light in my day!

Some days are better for Madison than others....recently she has been pretty good, but the weather down here is changing again and she may need some again soon!
I hate the goopy eyes!! :-( Poor Madison....I'm always wiping them - must drive her nuts!! LOL

Yeah, I've had some bouts with all of that, too! I try and keep her ears cleaned as much as possible and I'm constantly cleaning out her eyes b/c I don't want her to get "tear stains"! She also seems to have some allergies, too, and that makes her skin itch - so the vet said I could give her half a Benadryl when she starts scratching and that seems to help some. I recently started her on Evolution - so that takes care of the heartworms, ear mites, fleas & ticks all in one monthly dose! It's been wonderful! :-)

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Spaniels! Yes, they can be high maintenance dogs. They usually have eye, ears, and skin issues. Hopefully, you have had not too many problems with those issues, but I've had them all. My vet tells me I should get a different breed, but this is what I know. I've had cockers all my life.

Hi everyone!! My cocker spaniel's name is Madison and she is 5 years old. I got Madison when she was 4 months old from a pet store in the Columbus, Ohio area....I knew nothing about her breed, but I thought she was adorable and very mild mannered so I wanted her! Boy was I in for a high maintenance little girl!! LOL - But I love her to death and she has been the best dog ever!!

Live, laugh, and love always!

Fascinated is one way to put it! I always say she loves little creatures, but, um, not in a good way if you know what I mean! :) She becomes obsessed if she even sees an empty cage or tank...she just knows there must be something hiding in it. A little OCD about the whole thing if you ask me. :) Crazy pup. emoticon

It sounds like LadyBug was VERY lucky to be found by you! Despite a rough start in life, she sounds like a typical Cocker, always wanting to eat and fascinated by little critters.

Poor puppy. So glad she found someone to take care of her. I Believe I saw you are a vet tech and it must be nice to take your dog to work with you. I would love to take mine with me, but I don't think my boss would like that.

Yes my dogs love to try and get the small animals too. I would love to have a guinea pig, but they probably want to kill that too.

I have 5 dogs, one of which is LadyBug, my 5 year old female Cocker Spaniel. She is red and white with lots of freckles. She is also known as the Cocker Piddler...lol! She was found near on a road during a horrible rain storm, almost dead. This 3 lb. pup needed an immediate blood transfusion to save her life...she was infested with fleas, hookworms, roundworms, coccidia and ring worm. She pulled through and totally captured my heart! She can't be held and snuggled enough. She loves to come to work with me. She loves food. She wants to kill little critters (which I also have!). She has her own hamster (safely caged) which she loves to look at. I do love this crazy little spaniel!
There is a picture of her on my spark page.

Thanks for explaining. I've always had cockers except when I was a baby, we did have a springer named Rusty...obviously a liver colored dog. I would love to have another one, but if I get another dog I want a Clumber Spaniel.

springers come in 2 equally wonderful varities: field (hunters which have different shaped ears, mostly white along the backs making them easier to spot in the field); and bench (show-type which have long ears, a blanket (black or liver) along their backs, long feathers and thicker boned legs and paws). Both types are beautiful to me! I ended up with the runt who is a blend "bench" with the long ears and black blanket, but still retains his hunting instincts. He's a great dog.

Go to Yosemite. It's incredible!

My dog is Buddy, a 2 yr old bench b/w ESS "fat paw". I hope he'll someday be a Therapy dog, but we'll see. He's earned his CGC, but you'd never know it by the way he acts. He's such a goofball! I can call and call and call him--no response. Open the dishwasher door, he magically appears!

Working on the posting-of-the-pictures thing...

Go to Yosemite. It's incredible!

Good Bozo...at least you know he was protecting you. I think my Sophie would do the same thing, she can be rather territorial. Murphy on the other hand, would hide if he could. He acts tough, but he is the biggest chicken!

Katie, is my King Charles and Feild Spaniel mis. We rescued from the local nimal shelter. My profile pic is my favorite pic of her. She is laying on her footstool. Actually we share the footstool. When we adopted Katie, we were told that she had been returned to the sheloer twice. She didn't get along with cats, seperation anexity issues a whole list of problems. Well I have always liked a challenge. She stole my heart almost from the time I laid eyes on her. We have had Katie for 4 months now. She and Silk (cat) get along fine. I'm not saying Katie doesn't push the issue occasionally. Silk has trained many dogs and this is her house. So Katie has a healthy respect for Silk. We crate trained her. I have never had any problems that the other people who adopted her complained about. She has been really good for both my husband and I. We get out take her for long walks take her to the dog park and play with her. She has her forever home with us.

Wow! She is tiny compared to my belated Joey who was an English CS, he weight a whopping 60#!!! My Sophie, at the check-up, weighed 23#. She is also a rescue that started out as a foster. She has an attitude with Murphy, especially at breakfast and dinner. She loves to eat!!

Hi there!
Yet another member for the Cult of Cockers... :) I had an Am. Cocker growing up, and loved him to pieces! Now I have Sophie (black,Am.Cocker 4 yrs) who is THE sweetest little girl, very petite (12#), very loving. We also just rescued (literally- last week!)another Am.Cocker, named Oliver. He is a big goofy moose (8mos, 20#)all boy, very clumsy... :) Poor Sophie is absolutely baffled by him and his ways, but he LOVES her... They are still adjusting to each other (we just had him fixed as well...) and doing really well! We get about 5 minutes of snarkiness every morning (she hates mornings, and he just wants to play), but otherwise, wherever she is--he is! :)

Only easy day was yesterday...

I have 2 Springer Spaniels.
Ellie is liver and white she is 3 years old. She had 9 puppies her first litter. We didn't even know she was having them until we got up in the morning. Ellie likes to be pampered and fussed over. She is very smart--too smart.
Ranger is black and white and is 2 years old. His temperament is nothing like Ellie's. His stub of a tail wiggles all the time.
I also have a lab/husky mix who is a year old. She is spayed.

Thanks for making this a sticky Kim! I hope more people respond.

Isn't it funny how those foster dogs end up staying permanently? Although, my theory is that if you have to fail at something, it might as well be fostering!

It sounds like you've had some wonderful dogs in your life. I've had others that have passed on or passed through - and every one has been unique and special.

Olive Oil is SUCH a cute name, especially for a Cav :) They are just wonderful dogs.

Hi guys!! I loved reading your stories!

I have a 4 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Her name is Olive Oil.
She is mine and my husbands first dog together. I have had 4 other dogs in my life so I grew up with dogs. My husband has never had a dog.

She is sweet, tiny and goofy. We bought her from a store and Olive had a bad respritory infection. She was sick for 2 weeks, and we were so worried about her. She is doing so much better now and gained so much weight.
Now that she is 4 months she is learing how to take walks which is great cuz I need a walking partner.

Kladckrs - Thanks for posting this. I made it a "sticky" thread. Everybody introduces themselves, but not their dogs. I requested that they do, but they don't always do it. You have beautiful dogs!

I grew up with cockers, expect for the first dog I had when I was a baby, Rusty was a springer spaniels. Then came the following:
Taffy-female

Candy-Taffy's female pup, she was a runt and I paid $7 to my dad to keep her. I actually named her Honey for Honeysuckle White Turkeys. She born just before Thanksgiving and was white not buff when she was born. What can I say I was a little kid! My parents renamed her.

Taffy Joe - male, my mom got him from someone that didn't want him. He was scrappy.

After Candy died a week after my wedding, I didn't have a cocker or a dog for a long time until my neighbor's cockers had pups.

Misha - she was the only buff in the litter. Her mom, Kaluha who was chocolate and her dad, BooBoo was tri-colored. I named her Misha Kaluha's Cream.
She wasn't the nicest dog and kind of a mean streak. She died of cancer at age 6.

Joey - I got him the day after I put Misha down. He was my pride and joy. I loved him dearly and miss him so much. (a pic of his memorial stone is on my sparkpage). He had an attitude about himself. He was lazy, grumpy, and he was soulful. I swear he could read my mind. He became a special needs dog when he had glaucoma and had to have his eyes surgically removed as they were to painful and bulged. I felt so sorry for him, but he learned to get around just fine. He became even mellower after the surgeries. He died a year later from congestive heart failure. He was almost 9 yrs, missed it by 2 weeks.

Murphy - 7 years old. He is a lover. Not a mean streak in him. He even backs down to my other dog, Sophie. He is my baby boy. I think he has some other dog in him besides cocker - beagle, he howls. His papers say he is purebred, but I question it. Doesn't matter really to me. He is silly at times, but is becoming lazier as time goes by. He is finally coming out of his puppyhood!

Sophie - she is about 4-5 yrs old. I got her as a rescue. She was to be a foster dog, but couldn't part with her. I couldn't send her to another home because she had been passed around alot. She got along with Murphy just fine. She is a hunter as she loves watching and waiting for squirrels! She has a temper and is not easy to trust people. It took her several days to let me touch her with both hands, now she always has to be in my lap or just being touched. It was obvious that she had been abused at one time. Her tongue is to big for her mouth,it gives her character. She can't keep it in and it is always hanging out not matter what. Because of this she is always drinking water and dripping everywhere and her ears are always wet!

My vet thinks I should find another breed, but this is what I know!! Maybe another kind of spaniel someday. I would love to have a Clumber Spaniel.
My mom has pictures of me with all the dogs and I would love to get them and scan them on to my computer. She said after she looked at them, "you must have loved dogs from the beginning!"

I thought it would be neat to get to know everybody's dogs . . . I hope starting a topic is okay, even though I'm a newbie :)

Here are my dogs . . .

Farley - almost 10 years old, Farley was my second Cocker Spaniel (my first Cocker passed over the Rainbow Bridge 3 years ago). I showed him to a Canadian championship, and then found out he had some genetic problems, so I had him neutered. We trained for obedience, and competed at the novice level in both Canada and the US. He earned his Canine Good Citizen title at the biggest Cocker show in the US, in Indianapolis, 5 years ago. Last year, at the age of 8, he got off the couch and earned a Rally Obedience title in just two weekends of showing. This dog is my heart and soul . . . he is cranky and totally intolerant of other dogs, but he is the most loving dog where people are concerned. He is fully retired now, and spends his days sleeping and begging for bananas and tomatoes. He's had some big health scares, but is still ready and raring to go.

Grace - my middle child (age 3), she definitely suffers from middle child syndrome. She is often overlooked and ignored (in her eyes, anyhow). She is the softest dog I've ever trained - the slightest correction causes her to melt into a puddle. We have overcome many challenges to train for agility and rally obedience. She earned her novice Rally Obedience title just a couple of weeks ago, with nice high scores. She's almost ready to compete in agility - I'm the only thing holding her back. She was a show dog, but she hated being in the ring, so I cut her hair short and decided to focus on the fun stuff. She may have puppies next year . . . depending on my schedule at work. We are also training for regular obedience, and she is in the process of being certified for therapy dog work. She is the most calm and gentle and loving dog in the world, bar none. And super tolerant.

Jack Jack - the baby of the house, at 16 months old. He is the apple of my eye . . . heir to the throne, so to speak. He may also become a dog show drop-out, not because he hates to show (he loves it!), but because he has crooked teeth and that's a big fault for this breed. Despite being very well socialized by his breeder (one of my best friends), he has real fear issues with other dogs, so walking him isn't much fun. But he's a super sweet and loving dog at home, and he's attached to me at the hip. He and Farley don't get along, because they both want me for themself. Jack Jack is training for obedience and rally obedience, and may pursue a career as a canine model. Yes folks, he IS that pretty.

All of my dogs can be seen at http://www.kladcockers.com

One of my main interests is canine training and behavior, and I'm happy to answer questions or provide advice (although I'm NOT a professional). I look forward to meeting your dogs!
