Love the regional market, too!!! I haven't made it there yet, but have made the one on Clinton Square this past Tuesday. It's smaller and I just happened to be in the area. Then there was one in Solvay, yesterday and I got some fresh mangos. MMMMMMM there's nothing like the freshest food and at great prices! I also try new things. My girls love the market and beg me to go, and they, too will try new foods because they are all out on display. Yesterday we saw some sort of prickly, hairy fruit at a vendor. We're going back to buy more!!

If you go to the Regional Market, GO EARLY. After about 8:30am it gets crazy, and it's almost impossible to find a parking space. Besides, that way your other 1000 things to do won't have time to get in the way! :) You will really love the market. Tons of fresh local produce, dairy, baked goods, even pasta and meat, if you eat it. If you like tofu, Buttercup Farms (I think that's the name)in the first building sells Ithaca Soy Tofu, which is the best I've ever tasted.

I have discovered Wegmans and I do love it! I go to the one in Dewitt since that's in the area I pretty much live in (I live near La Moyne and work near bridge street south of 690).

I'm also thinking of checking out the regional market this weekend to see what I can find there with respect to local food.... that's if any of the other 100 things on my to do list don't get in the way!

I love shopping at Wegmans. I go to the smaller one on James Street because I know my way around pretty quickly. The one in Dewitt is even fresher, though, and they have the humane meat, eggs, etc. you're looking for.
Hope that helps.

Where are you in the Syr area? I too, live in East Syracuse, and really not too far from Green Lakes. The Erie Canal is another great place to walk/jog, bike, etc.

Not that I've been there much but yes I love it. It's perfect for me. It's cheap ($10/month plus a $30 annual fee still means less than $13/month). It has a lot of workout machines. I've never had to wait to use an elliptical yet. Since the elliptical is all I use (may start using the weight machines sometime though) and I don't really ever take advantage of classes or other perks at previous gyms I really like it.

I could see myself switching to the Y at some point if I ever start a family because of the pool, activities, etc. but right now as a "single and loving it" girl Planet fitness is perfect for me!

Thanks for the suggestion. My friend brought me to Green Lakes and I really liked that. I haven't heard about Ryder Park but may have to check it out if there's a nice weekend day in the near future.

Welcome!!!

I don't know if you've found Ryder Park & the canal trails but those are really good places to run/walk/ride in the DeWitt area. Green Lakes State Park is another.

I'm in East Syracuse so if you need some other ideas/info on the DeWitt area, let me know!!

Welcome!!

ello everyone!

I've just rejoined SP today after a long time off; I decided get a fresh start and created a new profile. With finishing grad school, looking for work, moving halfway across the country and trying to settle in my new life here in CNY, I've gained more than I'd like to admit even over my old high weight on my previous account.

So as the topic suggests I'm relatively new to Syracuse; I moved out here in January to start my first real job. It's actually my first time in NY as well. I've lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Colorado before coming out here. I'm still trying to find a good place around to find local produce and humane meat/dairy/eggs. If anyone has any suggestions please pass them my way.

Also if anyone is interested in meeting up for hikes/walk let me know. I have a gym membership to the Planet Fitness in Dewitt but still love to get outside, especially if the weathers nice.
