I hope you are all having a great day!

I am enjoying a little break after working a lot of hours for about 4 months. I worked half days this Monday and Tuesday. I thought I was going to have to go in for a late half day today, or do a split shift today. But was waiting for a call from my boss to be sure if and when he needed me in. I got up early as I was going in a normal morning shift, but just put on casual clothes instead of dress and pantyhose and all after my shower. Glad I did that! I was thinking he was going to call me around 8:30 am or 9 am to let me know what was up. But he didn't called me until around 2:30 pm, and then said that tomorrow would be better, so I got today off. Tomorrow I have to run some errands, and go to the office for about an hour or so around noon. Then I am off for a while, but I have to go back to the office around 6 pm to meet with a couple of clients to take care of some legal papers, but that shouldn't take too long. Then Friday I will be running errands again, and in the office for a short bit. Saturday I could end up running at least one errand again too.

I don't mind that as long as all my days off I am not sitting waiting for phone calls to find out if I have to run somewhere. Like today would have been better if he called me first thing in the morning to let me know that tomorrow would be better for him. As Monday I didn't hear anything from any of my bosses. And yesterday he didn't called me until late in the afternoon, when I was already getting ready to go home. And then he gave me a "To Do" list that still needed done that day. And he also told me than that he was going to need me to take care of stuff today, but he didn't know what time. But he thought it would be around noon or later in the evening, or both. Most of the time he calls me around 8:30 am to around 9 am, and lets me know what is important for the day. Sometimes he will let me know he needs something but isn't sure of time, but he says he will call back in an hour or so, and sometimes then he knows, and sometimes he says he needs and other hour or so, or to move it to the next day or another time. I had house work and errands I could have done today, but didn't as I thought I was going to be running out to meet with clients and was trying to stay clean and fresh, lol. I went ahead and started some of the cleaning after I spoke to him this afternoon. I will run my personal errands tomorrow in the middle of my split shift probably.

Have a good evening! Janette

That sounds really interesting. You should check out this other team: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/
groups_ind
ividual.asp

They have all kinds of helpful stuff about writing. I have never had anything published or tried to either. But in school I use to really like the writing assignments in my English classes and did a lot of it just for fun. But I haven't done any of that since I was in my late twenties. Now I just write some personal journal stuff on and off. There are several really nice ladies in that team that offer other team members help, and post stuff on the site to help people with publishing and other stuff. And some times they post short stories and such on it. Once they had a story going that all the team members had chances to add to it as it was coming a long. That was really interesting.

OOLALA- I do have a plan for the series. It's roughly outlined as to what will happen in each book. The series blossomed from a FanFic I wrote last year. A book club I belong to on FB hosts a Fantasy Ball every year in September, last year some of the authors thought it would be fun to write a fanfic based on that ball, the theme of the ball was a Bachelor Auction. I had decided to give it a try to see if I had what it took to become an author. (actually, a few of the ladies kept saying 'do it' and then one said 'I dare you' so basically it was peer pressure :::nods:::) I wrote a 23K fanfic. There were a total of 7 fanfics formatted into an ebook anthology that we gave away to our book club members as a holiday gift.
My daughter 'fell in love' with the supporting characters(Elizabeth & Rudy), my heroine's daughter and a waiter she met at the ball, and demanded I write them a story. That lead to the series, the fanfic is being expanded to a novella length, to change the Happy for Now ending to a Happy ever Afer ending and to introduce the heroines for book 1 and 2, who are the best friends of Elizabeth. Elizabeth will be the heroine in book 3, she and Rudy have a long distance relationship that plays out in all the books leading up to book 3.
The setting is a small town in Massachusettes with a fictitious name but based on a real town. It's a contemporary rom-com style romance, it's 'steamy' which is just shy of erotica. The short story that I just had published in March as part of a short story collection is erotica. Our writers' group is currently working on a paranormal short story collection that will be released in October 2018. Those stories will include all romance levels from clean/wholesome all the way up to erotica. I have 2 different story ideas for that one, one is a dark romance in a sort of gothic romance way, the other is a fun semi-steamy ghost story. I'll send them both out to beta readers to see which gets the better feedback and submit that one. I also have a time travel romance that I'm working on too. I'm brand new to the author thing so I haven't exactly settled on what type of romance I will write. Most of the other authors in our group seem to think that being a multi-subgenre writer would work for me so that's what I'm considering doing.

^^see what I mean about yapping on and on about something I"m excited about? LOL I could talk about my book ideas for days! LOL

TX for this Janette. It seems to be the way of these groups to ebb and flow unless they have huge membership. But who knows?

OOLALA53, the meet up/Facebook group is for Escondido ladies 50+. I don't know how it got started but it was going for years before I found it around 2013. Before I found it and right as I found it there was a lot more ladies and they had a lot more events. But over the yrs it started to die out. When I was first going to the events I was't working. I had been laid off the year before, so I had a lot more free time and could attend a lot more of the events. In 2015 I started back to work and missed a lot of events. And in 2016, I started this new job and just stopped going as I was concentrating on learning the job again and working a lot of hours. But last summer the job was slow so I had a lot more free time so I started attending some events again, but the gatherings are so much smaller. But several of us are coming up with more ideas of things to do and posting them on FB to see if any one else is interested, so things are starting to pick up again. But I happen to be busy with work again, so I am missing a lot of the events again. But the last brunch I went earlier this month had a pretty good turn out.

No worries! If I may, I'll say that my first years of successful eating changes came during some of the most busy, stressful times in the last ten years. Better eating actually helped me!

I should be doing more purging, even though I'm not moving. and I'm not writing a novella or even working right now! (Congrats on the writing. I'm assuming you have some foundational ideas for the series.)

OOLALA, I will keep your offer for a walking/meet up in mind. I'm very busy with things here right now. I'm doing a pack and purge to get ready for a move. (not that we have a place to move to yet, we're giving our 30day notice on May 1st) I'm also trying finish writing my novella (a prequel to a series) so I can get it to a developmental editor. Once I get that off to the editor I can shift my writing attention over to the novel that is the 1st full book of the series. If that wasn't enough fun I can add in all the normal day to day things like housework, and cooking and budgeting and playing chauffeur to my adult child... SO much FUN! (insert eye rolling emoji and face-palm emoji here)

Janette, what was the north county meetup group that shifted to Facebook but still has some events going on? What brought the ladies together, just age and location?

I tend to be kind of loud and animated in public, but I'm seeing lately that it doesn't necessarily stem from comfort. And as some who know me (on the other teams I lead), I can write on and on. I'll talk about my eating strategies a lot here, but in real life, only sparingly because there are so many opinions (though only a small amount of success), fueled by the excess of input on the net- much like the excess of food availabilty in daily life. (Something that wasn't true before the '70's) Oops, there I go!

Allegra, if you're interested in a casual meeting just to talk a bit, or go for a walk or whatever, go ahead and PM me. I'm not that far from MV/SM. Maybe we could walk by the river in MV? Or through the mall? I have a fair amount of free time for the next few months.

I am usually really shy and quiet until I get to know you. Even then I can be really quiet unless I have something that I really want to talk about, or I feel like can really relate to the conversation going on.

I'm the same way, normally I sit on the sidelines and contribute in spurts in person. Online I start off as a lurker, reply here and there until I feel comfortable with the other posters. Now, if I am excited about something, it doesn't matter who you are or how long I've 'known' you, I will talk to you all day! LOL It is nice to meet you Janette :)

Hi ladies! I am on both SP San Diego in here and a couple of SP groups on Facebook. None of them are really active. But a lot of the teams on SP and Facebook aren't not that active. Lots of members, but only a few post here and there. There is an SP group that is more active on Facebook but they are not people from San Diego only, they are from all over.

I too have some general anxiety but it is more to do with in person, then Online. I also don't like big crowds, but I still go out in them. And I get nervous with meeting people especially for the first time, or when I don't know them well. But I still force myself out there. I am usually really shy and quiet until I get to know you. Even then I can be really quiet unless I have something that I really want to talk about, or I feel like can really relate to the conversation going on.

I live in Escondido, Ca now, but I grew up and spent most of my life in San Diego. I work for a CPA, so work is really busy right now. Something got changed in SP and it changed my settings so I wasn't getting any msgs from SP until I just went in and changed it back. So I never got these msgs that you all were posting in this thread. And with work being so busy, I wasn't checking all the threads in all of the many teams I signed up for.

I do belong to a group of Escondido ladies that are 50+ that first met on the Meet up website, but now we mostly just post on Facebook, so it saves the money of keeping the group going on the Meet up site. But even it goes in phases of hardly anyone posting or showing up to events, or several doing it. We usually go out to brunch once a month, or go on walks around town, or to the movies or such. I don't participate in all of their events. A lot of them are in the evenings and I don't like to drive when it is dark, like they have a book club and a game night, and sometimes they meet up for drinks at local restaurants, and I don't drink either, so I don't go to those either. But it is a nice group of ladies and it is a nice way to make myself get out there and do something besides just going to work or just sitting at home.

All my best to you all always. Janette

Allegra, I missed this! So glad to meet you. It's neat that you have been able to raise a family with mental health challenges. I have general anxiety; I sometimes feel I can barely take care of myself.

Linda, I must not be looking at the right Facebook page because the last time I was there, very little was happening. I can tell you from several years' experience leading a couple of teams on Spark that it can be very hard to get something active going in one place, never mind two. That's why years ago, I decided to stay here, though I was barely active on the SD team while I became more successful with folowing and maintaining my eating program on the teams that were most relevant to me. I finally felt that I could try to make more of a contribution on the SD team online, and maybe even get some in-person activity going, though only for those who feel it would be useful and fun. But I know it doesn't come easy. I really hope we can consolidate our efforts more. I've seen teams pretty much peter out from scattered involvement, not only here but on Facebook groups. Spark has provided a great context for me. But I know the ad stuff can drive us crazy!

Anyway, hope to see you more on the team!

Welcome, I have been up and down on Spark also, I still have about 40 lbs to lose. I wanted to let you know that many in our group use the Facebook Spark, San Diego Sparkteam but we also don't log in as much. Good luck, I hope you can do it. Linda

Hello everyone, I'm Lorie I live in the Mission Valley/Serra Mesa area of San Diego. I've only been back here at Spark People for a little over a week, I did use Spark People about 8 or 9 years ago, lost 105 lbs was 25-30 lbs short of my goal when... life exploded, stress ensued and most of the weight came flying right back on within 6 months! I've recently decided to challenge myself to get Fit by Fifty, I have 4 years to do so. My goal is to lose roughly 130 lbs, give or take a few. Walking is my main source of exercise right now, I'm also trying beginners pilates. Once the weather decides to stay where it belongs I plan to get into the pool and work swimming and pool exercises into my routine. I need low-impact exercise for due to bad hips, knees & ankles. I'm originally from MA, we (my husband and daughter) moved here to SD about 4 years ago. Our sons were already out here after being stationed at Mira Mar the 3 of us joined them after 'the baby' graduated High School back home. I don't have many friends as I usually avoid the public as much as possible, social anxiety and public places don't exactly scream fun if you know what I mean. I also live with other forms of mental illness as well as PSTD so making new friends and being social isn't very easy for me. I do well in cyber-land as I don't have to *be with* people in order to interact and be social.
I am also an author. Well, I'm at the beginning stages of being an author. I have a short story that was recently published in a short stories collection. I'm in the process of working on a prequel to a 3 book series. Um? I can't think of anything else right now.
And our son will be here to pick up the kids so I really should get them ready to shove them out the door. Spring Break is so much fun! (not really)

Hope you all are having a great day. I look forward to chatting with you all. :)
