I eat low carb, and could eat an avocado a day, if I wanted to.

They are only 289 calories, 15 g carbs, most of it fiber.. lots of potassium.. only issue you have is you think fat is bad.

The fat in avocado isn't the problem. If I had to guess you eat some other fat, which is worse than eating an avocado.

If you ate half an avocado, it would simply be 13 g of fat.. cut that elsewhere, or simply stop worrying about an extra 13 g of fat.. if an avocado is your big cheat.. you are healthier than almost anyone.

Sources of fat are important too, and avocados are high in fiber. This isn't blowing your diet, like eating a doughnut is. Look at other sources of fat in your diet, and ask if trading some of that fat, is worth being able to add half an avocado to a meal. You may find dropping 13 g of fat elsewhere allows you to enjoy your diet more, and you still stay on plan.

Good Luck.

If you are the only avocado eater in the house, it's easy to freeze them. Just mash with lemon or lime juice and seal in a plastic bag. I freeze the equivalent of half a Haas avocado in zip snack or sandwich bags, flatten them to the edge so they actually stack horizontally before they freeze and in any direction once frozen. So when good ones are on sale, I buy several and freeze. Have never successfully managed to keep them in the fridge, but frozen thaws quickly. I don't even bother waiting until they are fully thawed.

@SLASALLE - Check them out at Aldi's if you have one nearby. They have them marked down regularly, both larger individual ones and bags of the smaller ones.

I love avocados! I buy smaller ones (though I did NOT know Trader Joe's had bags of six tiny ones and will be checking that out).

I eat half an avocado at a time, but plan for it because that's pretty much my fat for the day!!

They may have a LOT of fat, but they also have a LOT of "good for you" nutrients, so well worth it!!

I’m sure you can work an avocado into your calorie allotment. You could eat a whole avocado with all its healthy fats on a salad with some chicken. Avocados are loaded with vitamins, healthy fat and fibre they are so worth the calories IMO.

1 haas avocado
3 cups of romaine lettuce
4 oz chicken

450 calories, 19g carbs, 30g fat, 32g protein and 15 g fibre

I eat salads like that all the time as a regular part of my healthy diet. I usually add some chopped tomatoes, cucumber, onion and a bit of salsa to mine too.

One Avocado lasts me 5-6 days, depending on size. I usually put about 20g onto my slice of toast and sprinkle lemon pepper over it. It is a good way to enjoy it without going overboard.

Other ways are to use it as butter or margarine for sandwiches, especially with ham, chicken or egg sandwiches or tomato/bacon/egg ones.

If you want to wolf down an avocado, look for these,

That's what I've been doing, but I guess I was hoping I'd be able to wolf one down with no consequences. Lol!

Weighing and measuring all you eat, and eating proper serving size, is how everything fits into your plan without blowing it.
