I'm 57 and still love to run so it is important to pay attention to what my body is telling me. Having a good relationship with my chiropractor, massage therapist, and stretch therapist keeps me going. If I need to just walk for the day I do. If I need to rest, I do. Switching up distance and speed keeps those repetitive injuries at a minimum. I pay attention to any twinges and address it. Posture while working is important. Injuries can cause a ripple effect of more injuries so treat it right!

I understand 100% too! The world better watch out if our active lives are put to a halt. :-)

Thanks ladies! I’m good though, just modifying what exercise I do keeps me pain free. If the time ever comes when I can’t be active at all then I’m in trouble! I need to move.

I broke my right ankle 11 years ago playing soccer and have had 2 serious sprains on that same ankle since then. I was also born without part of a vertebra in my lower back.

My right knee and lower back have decided this past year that they don’t like running anymore. A sore knee and a back so stiff I can’t hardly move is not good.

I stick to walking, biking, weights and yoga for the most part. I am able to get away with an hour of soccer once a week without too much issue if I wear my ankle brace, but if that ever becomes a problem I’ll have to ditch that too.

I don't run, but I used to spin three times a week.
Until a leg fracture got me plates, screws, and PT.
No more spinning, at least until next February.

So now I walk... no biggie!

I agree Zorbs. I believe in balancing three elements when it comes to fitness:
cardio
strength
flexibility

I got way off balance and developed an injury.

I believe that it is dedicated strength training that has kept me without a serious injury after 12 years and 28000+ kilometres of running.

I can't say that I have but I know there are people out there. If you are currently injured, I am sorry to hear that and hope you recover quickly.

Is anyone a serious runner that has gone through a long, extensive injury and would care to share their experience?
