Started strength training again.



Arm is better so I have planned sessions on the weight machine to build arm muscle. The lightest weights possible so I don't hurt myself.

My bullet journal is loaded and ready to go.

Am I forgetting anything?

I keep looking for my "FEEL FULL" switch.



You know, throw the switch and you don't feel hungry anymore.
Do I have one? If so, where is it?

I can't find it, but I did search the internet, again, and found this advice...

"Turn on the feel-full switch before you eat. There is about a 15-minute lag between the time we eat and the time when the feel-full proteins in our gut are released....One way to counter this problem is to consume a small snack, preferably one high in protein, of about 100 calories 15 minutes before your meal so that the feel-full proteins are activated when you start to eat your meal."

My other "FEEL FULL" switch is mental.
Mental distraction works really well with me.

If I'm engaged with some activity that distracts the hunger feeling, I can go all day without eating. But, them kind of days are rare, like when I was younger and dumber.

I was thinking today...my weight loss journey requires infinite patience.
It didn't matter while I was gaining weight, over the past 63 years.

Now it matters much.

The food industry has a lot of patience. They know that if they can get me hooked on sugar, I will be following their food plan. Fatten their wallets.

I prefer MY PLAN. However, my plan requires a lot of patience to reach my goals.
By being patient, I will profit from MY PLAN.

More nutritious food.
Better health.
Thinner me, fatter wallet.
Happiness.

Patience and persistence beats impatience and defeat.
It's not hard work. It's mind over matter.

From the dictionary...Persistence - the continuance of an effect after its cause is removed.

So, when I reach my goal, I need to persist to maintain weight.

Not let the food industry plan my meals.

My plan, my success. Not their plan for MY failure.

Just food for thought.

My downward trend is starting a slow swing, so to counter that, I'm reducing my calorie intake by 50 calories to 1800/day.

It's like steering a big ship.



Small changes at the right time to make a minor course correction.
A big ship won't stop on a dime, nor will it turn too sharply.

Doing my best to stay on course.

I have 3 more 20 minute walks planned for today.

Oh, fantastic - great video! I enjoyed that.

There are certainly lots of daffodils and flowers appearing here - and on nice days, it feels Spring-like. With your snowfall, sounds like you'll be enjoying some lovely snowy peace & quite......... guess you're all stocked up?

Well done with the long-term goal. I stepped into the gym for an induction session yesterday, and that felt like a long-term goal too - a long-term commitment to making my fitness my main hobby!

Almost forgot to check in today.

I set a new long term goal today. May help me as I been looking too closely at the short term goals, which I have been meeting. It's easy to forget the long term goals. Sometimes we need to step back and see the big picture to keep things in check.

Snowing today. A big blizzard. All roads into and out of town are blocked off. No public travel.

Did my daily weigh in.

Still dropping.



Ate so well yesterday. I didn't feel hungry at all.
Was not able to eat the full 1850 calories as I got plenty of fibre. Came in at 1670 total. I'm getting better at it. I have learned to control the added salad dressing. I put my salad creation on the food scale, then I slowly drip the dressing onto the salad until I get the desired calorie count in grams. This is where calories have been sneaking in. Measuring the dressing in grams is a more accurate way for me to control them sneaky calories.

It's a chore for sure, but it's paying off. It's a great habit I need to maintain.

Along with...

Weighing ALL my food with a food scale.
Avoiding sugar at all costs.
Drinking a lot of water.

Drinking my morning coffee.

That's good information - thanks. One does wonder/worry as one gets older!

After my 5k parkrun this morning.......... and after sitting on the bus for an hour, my left ankle felt really stiff, almost like a sprain. But once I got moving again, it loosened up and felt better. I know I do need to work harder to stay flexible at 65 - and that has a knock-on effect on the joint's efficiency.

You're doing great!

I've decided to return to a mostly vegan lifestyle. (I was a strict vegan for 2 years and lost a lot of weight and I actually enjoyed the food.) I got lazy with food prep and stopped being accountable to myself. This time I'm going to eat some animal based foods (eggs, cottage cheese, fish, dairy) in a very limited quantity - at least for now. It's more of a whole food, plant based lifestyle. No added sugar or highly processed foods - just like before.

I did not weigh my food or track calories while a vegan. It really simplifies that aspect of losing weight and maintaining. So, I'm going back to that and I'm going to stop tracking and weighing for now and see how things develop. Of course, I'll continue with exercise and stretching.

I never worried about my knees while running.
I have talked to many people who won't run based on hearsay and fear.

I often wondered.

Sleep, sugar, stress, exercise, food, and other factors all come into play. The body wants balance.

This is why the SPARK Coaches stress eating enough food while trying to lose weight.

Small changes = more success.

Weight loss is more successful with small changes.

Gil, thanks for that excellent link.

I read it and got my 5 SPARKpoints.

I am living proof that cutting out the sugar (including the hidden sugars) has made me healthier, reduced my weight, and GREATLY improved my blood chemistry.

My GOOD HDL went up, triglycerides count went down, blood pressure down and reduced resting heart rate.

I have friends who refuse to cut back on the sugar and they are paying the price.
They suffer from chronic knee injuries, back problems, and many many other problems that require endless surgeries and expensive medical drugs. Not only do they have a HUGE food bill, but the food they do eat is constantly making them sick.

It makes no sense.

I'll say it again. The food industry does not care about our health.
It's up to us to educate ourselves and eat the right foods to maintain our health and pocketbooks.

Mr. Coffee and Mr. Scale both agree.

There is a huge increase in the amount of vegan choices appearing in our UK supermarkets now - a colleague told me yesterday. But it made me realise - apart from the occasional vegan burger or sausage type ready-made item - I just don't buy those ready-meals and 'deli' type things. I'm lucky to have been raised with home-made cooking skills that I continue to enjoy using.

Yes, education is key. I have so many healthy cooking blogs book-marked on my computer, and a very good collection of healthy cooking cook-books!

Sad to hear about the poor choices of food for those in special need.

I fear all the assisted living facilities are in the same situation.
Poor nutrition contributes to poor health.

Buying food in bulk and preparing from scratch reduces waste and families can take better care of those in need.

Education is the answer and it's helping me.

yes, it's terrible.

I work with adults with a learning disability - they are 'allowed' to make their own food choices. Almost every meal is pre-packed. Almost every drink is soda. The refuse bin and recycling boxes are overflowing with packaging. It's awful.

Slept in this morning. Felt good.

Mr. Scale says I'm still trending down with minor little spikes.

Attended my first beekeeper meeting of the year.
In the planning stages for hive installation.

Ordered a bee Nuc which includes a queen with the workers, honey combs with honey, and other bees in various stages of development.

If successful, I may be able to enjoy raw honey as nature intended.

Drinking coffee.

Hadn't really noticed if gum stops food craving. I would say no.

I just know it helps after dinner when I want to keep eating but my stomach says I'm full. The gum bridges the gap until the brain catches up with the stomach.

Gum update.

I have the same gum I been chewing for days now.

This I can tell you for sure. It's good for after dinner and in some cases before dinner. Chewing ABC (Already Been Chewed) gum is no different than chewing fresh gum after the sweetness wears off. Chewing ABC gum reduces the waste to the landfill and saves money if you like the habit. I keep mine in a small dish in the refrigerator when not chewing. I also found out it takes at least 6 of them chiclet size pieces to make a decent repeatable chew.

So there you have it.
Save money.
Save the planet.
Chew ABC gum.

Yes, 5 beats per minute.

I was staying between 115 and 120 on my walks/jogs. Now I've upped the limit to 125. This means I now am pushing myself to do a tad more slow jogging.

I'm at the lower end of Zone 3 for my workouts.
So far, so good. No injuries.

Coffee brewing. Working on my BUJO.

I went for a run yesterday (almost 90 mins) and did a very easy run/walk interval routine, I found I was able to average my heart-rate at around 120 bpm and not dip into Zone 5 at all. This has given me useful feedback for future runs.

Back to normal eating-wise today!

No, not easy. How are you dealing with them?

I'm off to work with some plump medjool dates in my lunch-box, in case I feel the need to sink my teeth into something sweet and squishy. At work there are cookies and candies at every turn! So far I've managed to keep my hands off them.

Not an easy thing to stay on track when all the neighbors bring mountains of cookies and treats on flimsy paper plates to your front door.

Good job.

On balance, I have never been a fan of gum, and my need is to control the 'having something in my mouth' activity.

If hunger reduction is your need, then gum may help..
