today I go for fitting of a c pap for my apnea. I told my supervisor that this is one more thng that is wrong with me. she didn't like that but it is true. all I ever here is what is wrong with me.

there are many causes of sleep apnea -- not just obesity. In fact thin people can get sleep apnea as well.

When I became obese, I got sleep apnea. I think it is caused by being overweight.

I have sleep apnea and am getting a c-pap machine. this could be the reason I am not losing weight. just one more thing that is wrong with me. I can't stand it

have not used the Spark People cook book, although I do go onto their recipe section and get recipes there. I also have cook books here at home that I use. I tend to eat the same meals over and over again -- so perhaps I should look at my cook books for some fresh ideas

Hi Gwyn! I read your 10 goals and plans and they are great! Your exercise is very admirable. Perhaps you are on a slow plateau of weight loss at this time.I dunno. But all we can do is carry on and not quit. I am sure of that. Have you tried the Spark cookbook? I find it very very good. You can get it used at Amazon. I want to try recipes from it soon also. Since I moved I seem to have forgotten how to cook. Everytime I walk into the kitchen I cannot think of anything. I need ideas.

my goal is to up my exercise to at least 30 minutes a day from 20. Does any one have any good ideas for me to switch my my food routine? and how to up my protein and lower carbs?

so happy new year to all !! here are my weight loss goals:
1) eat 1150 - 1250 cals per day/23 points per day
2) 27 grams of fat
3)110 - 120 carbs
4) 30 fiber grams
5) 60-136 grams protein
6) at leat 40 ounces of water or more
7) $1 in a jar for every pound lost
8) goal is to lose a total of 100 pounds, but I am breaking that into mini goals of 10 pounds.
9) track food honestly
10 increase exercise to 30 minutes daily

I am having a sleep study. My doctor says if I have sleep apnea there is a connection between that and obesity. and if I don't have sleep apnea, we can figure out other things to do about my weight loss.

Actually, exercise is such a part of my regular routine that I just do it. I have a membership at a local gym and we have a dog that I help walk. I found that I love zumba and I love to swim and if I don't at least walk the dog a couple of times a day and go swimming at least twice a week, I miss doing those activities.

did not make it to gym today -- woke up a bit late, had to do laundry. went to coffee and had to get duplicate title to my Buick. went grocery shopping. I get enough exercise that I can use the break

I wish you had done that too! I have a few things like that which I really regret too---but thankfully growing older is eliminating a lot of my regrets. But you can't go back and redo something. However, you can learn from it and seize the day today. I am glad you wrote about that, Gwyn. That is a good topic to think about.

back when I was in my 20's -- in the 1970's-- I had a dream. that dream was to take a bus trip across the country. When I was 20, I moved home with my parents--I was in college and had lots of problems, so I moved home. I waitressed for 6 months and then worked for a temp agency. got a good 6 month temp job doing office work. During this time period Greyhound bus company advertised a fabulous deal -- buy a three month bus pass and get on and off the bus in different cities as you wished -- as an example get on in Minneapolis, get off in Milwaukee. stay in MIlwaukee for a while then on to some place else--like Chicago. Then on to other places -- and I wanted to do this so bad. But as I was saying I lived at home with my parents and my mother was pushing that I move out. I was such a wimp, I let her convince me to get a permanent job and move out. She later said she didn't know how serious I was. I still wish I had done this

today is thanksgiving. I was in a funk of feeling sorry for myself. this weight, my job (I am sick of it) and how frustrated I am just attempting to lose weight. But I ahve a lot to be thankful for:
1) my husband loves me
2) we have a place to live -- and it is totally paid for
3) we both have family that loves us and we love them
4) the weight I have lost is staying off
5) we both have cars that are paid for
6) we have friends
7) a silver sneaker gym membership

It is so good to know your strengths! Your continuous exercise is just about the best habit you could have! The only thing I can think of that is more advantageous is to eat small portions, or eat normal amounts of food all the time . That has got to be the very best habit. I am trying to establish that habit now.

Good nutrition is a good habit, too. I have that habit from my 20's when I was a hippie making my own whole wheat bread. I still make it sometimes. But it is not good for a diet to lose weight.Another good habit I have is that I always work from a written daily schedule. I am disabled and at home, so I have to organize myself. I don't have a job outside the house to organize my time. So I make the effort to organize it. Being so moody with the bipolar, I have to do this or I would never get anything done! It's a good habit that has served me well. I get off my schedule, but I always create a new schedule and get back on it. It is something I can rely on to put my life back in productive order at any time. When I get up in the morning, I just go look at the schedule! I dont' have to think. It is very helpful.

So often in life it is the NOT things that are the best habits. Like not smoking, not overeating, not doing drugs, not drinking, not having bad relationships with toxic people. We humans create our problems so much of the time with things we should not do and do not have to do. The world is a negative place and you can learn bad habits. But we can choose to unlearn them.

Congratulations on your good habits of exercise and never giving up! You will make it with habits like that.

Hi Gwynn. I am back from being offline. Got my internet back today. Thank goodness! Yes thanx is around the corner. Congrats on your small changes lately like eating just the carrot and not the dip, and going swimming. That's a bigee. I admire your volunteer job too at the homeless shelter. I am thinking of connecting with the ESL center here in my new town. They need volunteers.

finally today I get to swim. going to serve a meal in a homeless shelter tonight. reminds me how lucky I am -- always have had enough to eat all my life. perhaps that is one of my problems--the fact that I have always had enough to eat

I am slowly making changes in my eating. I stop on my way to work to get coffee and snacks. quit buying the carrots with dill dip and replaced that with just plain carrots I bring from home. calories went down by 120 calories. uped my exercise by 5 minutes today

One of the best pieces of advice I have heard is that you should never skip a meal. Even if you eat a small meal or not so good, eat all 3 meals -- that way you don't get ravenous and eat junk the rest of the day. I am very frustrated with my lack of weight loss. I need to cut down calories and carbs and up exercise

It is Oct 27. I relate to eating more than you want to! I did that at dinner today. I am ,moving so I am very tired and getting very hungry, off schedule totally. I was able to cut my first meal today in half, but the second one, no! Ate twice as much as I wanted to. It tasted good. When I am weak, I eat for taste and will keep eating. But one meal out of two is at least a 50% improvement! And I was aware of my overeating during the second meal, which is an important change. But I was weak and did it anyway. I am not sleeping well, am very overtired and moving day is day after tomorrow. I am looking at all this stuff packed in boxes and thinking, I don't need all this stuff, do I????? NO. I don't. I got rid of some stuff while packing and will probably continue to lighten up my property after the move. Less is better.

One thing I will say is that I am good about exercising. Even when I don't want to exercise, it is raining or snowing out or I would rather be doing something else like shopping.

Hi Gwyn--How is your day today Tuesday Oct 15? I am doing better today. I am guiding my eating today by the menus given to me on my food page where I track my calories and food. Had some hummus and bread just now it was very good. I am packing to move so am busy. I am building some stamina doing that and that is great. Have dropped 5 lb this month. I am not exercising any other way as I do not have the strength for both, but I am carrying heavy boxes and bending over a lot and it is doing me good. I need to drop 3 more lb this month to meet my goal. Everyday I am making new rules and learning new ways to do things to stay in control all day long. I bought the book The Spark Solution and am reading it. That helps, too. How are you? Let me know. Sarah

Hi I have been in spark 5 years and have gained weight during that time! I have lost but gained it back and am even heavier. I broke my leg and became house bound and foolishly sat around for 3 years gaining weight. I just lost my momentum. LIFE gets in the way Gwynlee! Don't be down on yourself! All that matters is today. You are down 30 lbs! I am proud of you! I too have 100 left to lose and am re-starting this month, October. Let's do it together! Sarah

nope losing weight is not easy but it can be done. I am proud of the fact I have managed to keep about 30 pounds off. And I am proud of the fact I exercise daily

what's it going to take for me to lose this weight? I have been on "a diet" for about13 years now. lost about 42 pounds and gained 10 back. 30 are staying off. I realize that is good, but I weigh 219 pounds and I am SICK OF BEING FAT. I can not take it any more. I have arhtiritis in my hips and ankles and it some times hurts to walk this excess weight does not make that any better. I deserve a better life

Satiurday I went to a barmitzva and ate more than I wanted. My cell phone broke and needed to get new one. life is a journey

my ankles and hips hurt from arthritis. only when I walk. I have lost 30 pounds to day, which are staying off. what I am disappointed in is the fact that I have been on Spark people 13 years, have gone to WW for 4 years, TOPS 2 years before that and I have not lost all this weight. I believe it is my fault. I exercise 4-6 times a week. I am so tired of waking up at 4 am to hit the gym before I go to work. I know life is not fair. but I just want to live my life without this weight.

went on vacation to Winnipeg. My husband had never been to Canada -- he is from northern Minnesota not far from Thunder Bay, but has been to Israel 7 times. time for him to get to our neighbor to the north. had a great time.
