Ken - I can assure you that with a bad back and not being able to do the amount of exercise recommended, or even much of the usual exercises, you can still lose weight. I am a prime example. I have arthritis in my spine as well as scoliosis and this impacts on what and how much I can do. Added to that I also suffer from fatigue as the result of a head injury a few years ago, it means that I don't have the energy, too.

I still managed to lose 60lb. Most of weight loss comes down to nutrition. I didn't starve myself ... I ate wisely, which I always did anyway even at the higher weight - just a little more than my body needed, and I DO mean "a little more!" given that I was eating on average 1650-1850 calories daily prior to my weight loss. Prior to my weight-loss and during it I was taking a 1hr Mat Pilates class per week, taken by a Registered Physiotherapist who could steer me away from exercises not suitable for the arthritis and scoliosis, and in their place she would give me a safe alternative. This strengthened my core muscles which in turn considerably reduce the pain I was suffering. I also did 15 minutes mat Pilates most days, but haven't for a few years now. I got the bulk of my walking in by putting my laundry and groceries away one at a time. Some people scoff at my current exercise regime and say it 'isn't exercise' but I can assure you it is. The Physiotherapist put a heart monitor on me to check and yep, it does work LOL!

re your personal details on SP - what ARCHIMEDES said is spot on. It is about internet safety and nothing to do with breaching SP regulations.

Take care,
Kris

Hey, Ken !

You're not in violation. Everyone here just want you and your personal data to be secure.

Anyone, anywhere can see this thread. Anyone could put that cell number on a list and the next thing you know, you're getting robocalls every hour. there are software programs designed to find names, addresses, phone numbers.

KMARSULLO (Ken),
I was about to tell you that most of weight loss is about what you eat, not calories you burn from activity. Nothing wrong about exercise for a health and fitness point of view, but not a big calorie burner.

I exercise just because I like it and it keeps me more flexible and fitter.

Then I saw you mentioned "eating cleaner". That was the reason for your success. What did you change in your eating patterns before?

You see, you are starting to get some accountability right here. Do come back.

Glad you got it removed. It isn't necessarily a violation. It just isn't wise. :-)

I understand, but did not know that it is a violation to do so. I have nothing to hide- in fact entice somebody to contact me directly. I want this very badly but dont know a lot of people willing to help. I didnt think of going through posts. Perhaps somebody else is in the same boat

Hi Ken,

As I mentioned on your other posts, I strongly recommend you edit your post to remove your email and phone number. This is a public site and it is not a good idea to share your info like that. You can use our SparkMail feature to communicate privately with other members.

Hey Ken, You are not alone. A lot of us here have lost significant weight and gained some of it or more back. I regained about 40 pounds of an 80 pound loss. I, too, am finally ready myself...I think. ;-) I will be working in person with a Registered Dietitian and taking a 12 week course basically covering the science of nutrition.

As a safety tip, I, personally, would NOT be posting my personal cell and email here. SP is a good place in general but you never know. I encourage you to remove it. :-)

Hello!

My name is Ken. I was a member before and had lost a lot of weight but have gained it back.

I have been eating clean for a few days and want to get back to the gym, but am looking for an accountability partner to help. I have tried to lose and get back to the motivated person that I was (lost 100lbs in 8 months without starving - only ate very clean .. frequent excersise), but every time I tried I fell off. A lot of it had to do with a huge emotional burden that is off of my shoulders now. I feel that I can do it now. The only limitation is that I have a very bad back. It hurts so bad that I can walk places and such, but hurts all of the time. I have been diagnosed with advanced degenerative disk disease in the lower back. No excuse .. Still can try to do laps in the pool and light lifting. I just think that I need help - a partner- for us to both lose weight, eat clean, hit the gym. Whatever matches. Or just somebody to keep me going .

Kind Regards
Ken
