Just a thought ....

Do you have an organization which calls lonely people (generally elderly) on the phone each day to check that they are o.k. and have a chat? Perhaps if you do (ours is with St John) you could volunteer to call some others. That helps you AND helps the other lonely people.

MYSTICALWINGS04 - I am glad that you are seeing a Therapist. They can be HUGELY beneficial to our lives .... speaking from experience.

I will tell you what my Psychologist prescribed to me.

She said to go to a cafe each week for a cup of coffee and take your time, and preferably at the same time of day and same day of the week. In time I realized her rationalization for that. After the first 3 or so visits, the staff recognized me as a new regular and greeted me differently ... more like a friend, and would converse differently, rather than just politely asking how I was. I then noticed that there were a couple others who were regulars. In time the familiarity extended to saying hello, and then light conversation .... with another human being :-) I felt a lot better after each 'date' and could definitely see the benefit in it.

You might get the same thing from taking a walk to a park and sitting there for a while.

You volunteering with animals is excellent. It gives you a chance to extend your emotions to them, and they often are very grateful for someone showing them some love, that they give it back 10-fold.

Hugs,
Kris

It's good to hear from you, MYSTICALWINGS04. I love hearing that you are putting you first. Great plan for 2020! You have some good ideas already underway and I really like that you volunteer with animals--I know they need your help.

You're off to a good start and I wish you all the best.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I hope you are feeling better since your post below Kristy.
I am determined to make 2020 a great year. I've actually been doing ok the last couple weeks, been prioritizing working out everyday (full body workout with weights, about 15 mins a day). I'm focused on keeping a positive attitude and trying not to let things get to me as much.
I'm getting more involved at the animal shelter I volunteer at, I will be updating and inputting all the medical records and getting our fur-babies cleared for adoption. I'm thinking of fostering this year as well, I know animals can be so therapeutic. I am building out a pet-friendly room in my house, one of my side projects I started working on.
I am really determined to make this a good year, not necessarily resolutions, but more aware of my emotions, feelings, my value, my interactions with people, how I treat myself, how I spend my time... I am putting ME first.

Hi, I too am sorry you are having a rough time. I was off work the past 2 days and I'm really depressed and just want to sit here at my desk and cry. Christmas was perfect. Slept at my daughter's house Christmas Eve to watch her open presents the next morning. My husband had to work. I cooked gumbo and potato salad for Christmas dinner. I understand being lonely. When I'm in a room of people that I love and love me, I still sometimes feel alone when I'm depressed. A walk would do you good, even if it's short stroll around the block. Do you have any hobbies? I started kayaking, hiking, biking and made friends doing those activities. Now we have a close circle of friends. If you live in South Louisiana, we always have room for more friends! Hugs and love to you! This too shall pass, it always does.

Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having a rough patch. I second the walk suggestion; even a relatively short walk can do wonders. Please know that we are here to help remotely to remind you that you are not alone.

It's good that you are seeing a therapist. Make sure you tell them honestly how you are feeling. Are you getting out of the house at all? For work or for shopping or fun? I don't remember if you've said in the past if you are working. Even though the work itself is not always fun, it can be good for everyone if you are interacting with other people. If you are home and watching TV or surfing the internet, try to look for uplifting things to watch or something that will teach you something new. If you are feeling down anyway, there's no need to watch sad shows or depressing news.

I wish you all the best.

When I'm feeling a little low, I like listening to my favorite tunes. Could be Gregorian Chants or loud obnoxious rock.

If the weather isn't too cold, how about taking a walk ? I like taking a daily walk too. Walking helps me clear out the cobwebs that can muddle the brain cells.

I'm having an off day, off couple days.. I need a friend, I need a hug, I need a smile.. I've been feeling pretty low lately.. I force a smile every day but in the back of my mind I cant help but feel phony. I've tried to connect with people, make friends.. but over time I keep finding myself alone, un-satisfied, unhappy. I don't know how to focus on myself when all I want and need is a friend to talk to. Ever since my divorce couple years ago I've been feeling so alone in this world, I started seeing a therapist recently, hopefully that will help. Just needed to get this out emoticon
