I flip flop from obsessing over the scale daily or hiding from it. It definitely sets me off when I see the number just climbing steadily. Instead of motivating me it depresses me. To tackle my 45# change, today is my start over day so I'm going to try weekly until my emotions aren't so erratic.

Once a week, on Sunday morning. My relationship with the scale is not healthy. I used to weigh myself every morning. And if I didn't like the number it could send me into a tailspin. I worked my way out of that, but then went to the opposite end of the pendulum swing and avoided the scale like the plague.

Hence 30 pounds to lose.

So right now I'm disciplining myself to use the scale but also keep a distance. And I talk to myself before I get on it, b/c I still seem to have a lot of fear around that number.

I call Sundays my "Sunday Reset" -- that's the day I wipe the slate clean. I look back and see what I might have done differently. I give myself credit for doing my best. And I set some intentions for the coming week. Weighing is part of my reset.

I weigh in every couple of days. At first, I weighed in a few times a day, just to see (and remind myself) how much weight can fluctuate. It's trending in the right direction, so I don't feel the need to obsess over it now.

Weighing daily is a good way to remain in control. It can also be crazy-making when there's a slight up-tick in the scale despite complete adherence to your plan.

While I was losing weight, I weighed myself once a week and recorded it on my SparkPeople tracker every Monday AM, as soon as I got to work. (There's a good, "doctor's scale" in the employee bathroom.)

Now that I'm more or less "in maintenance," I weigh myself every day. While I do expect to see minor fluctuations of a pound or two in either direction, if I see the scale creeping the WRONG way over several days (usually because I've been over-indulging or under-exercising), I know it's time to make a change BEFORE things spin out of control.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I weigh in a couple of times a week, but not daily, and adjust calorie intake if my weight has moved in the wrong direction. I "officially" weigh once per week to record and access how I did for the week.

Daily.....working on not beating myself up when I do not like that magic number on the scale. I use the weight in as a way to attempt to keep myself "in check"

By weighing in daily, I have learned alot about my habits and how my body "holds" on to weight or how I lose. I have recognized that when the scale goes up, and I have stayed within my program and couldn't have possibly gained a pound of fat (calories in vs calories out), I no longer immediately hit the depressed mood. There are so many factors that influence that scale number. Plateaus are another story for another message board day! Best to everyone on their journey!

If l weigh myself too often it demotivates me, so maybe once a month. Sometimes more often, sometimes less.

I can go many weeks hovering a couple pounds above or below a set point before dropping again by a few pounds. Then I hover again around the new weight.

Every Sunday. Otherwise I get too disappointed with normal weight fluctuations. For example, I hopped on the scale a few times this week and was upset because it showed I had gained 3 lb despite eating at a deficit and exercising.

When I stepped on the scale today, I was not only down the 3 lb I had "gained" but I had lost an additional 3.

I find getting on the scale too often is a downer due to water weight gain. So I have changed my focus to how I feel. When I do well and eat healthy I am so much happier and feel less bloated. I will weigh myself monthly.
