I still see aprons for sale in specialty kitchen shops, and also in linen shops, so someone must be buying them. The only two aprons I have are barbecue aprons.
My Granny wore an apron every day, except when she went up town, or to the bingo.emoticonThe odd time, in the past when I was a kid, my mother would wear one. You just don't see them anymore, on anyone. They would sure come in handy, if you were having a dinner party, and were dressed up. It would certainly save your clothes.
I'm going to Rehab, this afternoon, then Sam and I are going to Sears, back home, and another family dinner. I'll weigh a ton by January 2nd. Tonight I'm just eating salad, maybe some fish. I just had two scrambled eggs.emoticonemoticonemoticonI'm sure ready for life to return to normal. We have a big dinner at my Mom's on the ist. emoticonthen hallelujah, I can start eating properly.
Take care everyone.emoticonAndrea

My grandma always wore an apron. I remember her making Irish Soda bread a lot.My mom always wore an apron in the kitchen too. She would be making jelly, applesauce, pies and all kinds of meals. I remember too that she wore these little white or red button earrings and a house dress. She would be hanging the wash on the line in our back yard. Now a days this is unheard of. Good memories for me.
The only time I see aprons now is if one of the my SIL's is barbecuing on the grill.
Well, I better get moving and do some house work today. See you later.

I wonder if any one will have aprons again. My mom said her mother had one unless she was working outside . It has been years since I have seen anyone with an old timey apron.
Up and just got b/f over had 1 boiled egg and one mini bagel so I am okay so far will not screw up today.
Vicki and I walked yesterday or last night we walked in WalMart but we got it done 2 miles of a square. Plan to walk outside today I sleep better when I walk. Need to go do some stuff see you

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..

And when the weather was cold Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

This is the link where we keep track of our weight on the Over 70 group. If you would like to keep your weight on there, you are welcome to do so. Over 70 has so many members that no one will know who you are anyway. A lot of them never come back. Some put their name and weigh on the spreadsheet that don't ever post on the chat. It is not a contest just a challenge to lose five pounds. We used to call it 5# at a time Challenge. We try to keep in alphabet order but I can fix that if there is not room for you. Post at the bottom and I will move it.

Wouldn't that be fun? ha ha ha ha.....I would love it.
Funny how we all talk everyday and it just seems natural that we should meet up on occasion. Well, we can at least have fun with it.
I made the g.b. casserole for Christmas and they loved it. Lots of calories, but was a nice treat.
Talk to you later.emoticonemoticon

Go up under tools and click on my nutrition. at the top is a place that says "Show Meal Plans" I click on that so the meal plans do not show up. Then click on "Add a Food" Play with it. It has a million different foods. Click and add the ones you want to use. It has different sizes. If you click on a food and not what you want you can remove it. Just play around with it. You can't hurt anything. I have my favorites and I also use what other people have added. It is great tool, try it, you will like it.

Kirby,
I am reading, "Christmas Cookie Murder" been a little slow with it since the holidays. It is good though. What is your book called?
I need to find out about the Stuffed cabbage calories. My friend told me she will come over some day and show me how to make them, so when she does, I will have all the ingredients to do a recipe calculation.
I know Marlene is good with these computer things and also the add a links. I always have a hard time figuring it out.

Irish that sounds good by the way what are you reading I just finished a book I was just sure I would hate but ended up liking it .
New to Spark go on track your foods and it will give you the calories of everything you eat .This is a for example I had whole wheat mini bagel and a fake egg gave me just what I had eaten . Just keep playing with it and you will get the hang of it. Maybe when Marlene comes she can help you better than I have she is a whiz at everything

i am new to this site today. Was looking at the menus for the days and got very disenchanted. Does anyone know how, or where I can find, a place where I can put a check mark by the foods I like from a list, and then they prepare a menu "just for me"?

Boxing Day, is observed in the commonwealth countries, In Canada it is a statuary holiday, also St. Stephan's day...it is also observed in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and a few other places. There are different reasons for it, in the United Kingdom, servants were allowed to visit their families on the 26th., and bring boxes, containing gifts, bonuses, food. Also churches opened up boxes for donations. I also think because it is the day after C'mas, people get rid of gift boxes. Here we have humongous sales, and people are out in droves to buy everything they can get, really cheap. I went out and bought Christmas cards and paper for next year. My friends went to Future Shop at 6 a.m., and bought a 42" plasma T.V. for $300.00. The stores are packed. Since it was on a Sunday this year, a lot of the stores are closed today, and a lot of working people, DH included have today off. And, that's the story of boxing day, to the best of my knowledge.
DH and I were out for lunch today, and are home now, thinking of going to see "True Grit" at the movies.
DH's son will be here tomorrow, we are invited out for another big dinner, in the evening, and then the rest of our days are tied up, until Jan. 2nd.
I hope you are all having a good day today.
Weather is pretty nice here again.emoticonIt'll be raining before you know it.emoticonAndreaemoticon

Irish you are so right about that age is just a number and the best thing we can do is not think about it and live every day and have fun.
Come on Irish it may help your cold . I need to check with Vicki cause I do not think my kids have ever had that. I am cooking my chicken now . I will debone it when it is cool and make my dumplings like my mom use to she used plain flour and salt with chicken broth. then roll thin ( like we want to be) and drop in the cooking stuff it cooks instantly. Does make a good meal but it is bread and I will not eat it

Hi ladies,
One person is 67 and will be 68 next month, how about that? We are only as old as we feel. Some days I feel like 59 and other days, well.....not great,(-: (-:
I keep positive though, age is only a number. Half of how we feel is our attitude and being positive really is the only way I can go!!
Hope Christmas was fun for everyone. Hope to get back to normal soon. Have had this sinus infection and laryngitis since Wednesday and not been myself. Finished up my z-pack and got my voice back. Am still coughing though,so hope that goes away soon. I hate to be sick. emoticonEnjoy your day ladies.

Marlene, I like the idea of all of the covers. I would never have thought of that one. Now I bet you really had to take money out of your bank account to pay for those LOL...Merri

So what is boxing day? I think it should be take all the left over stuff and put it in a box and give it away. Sounds like boxing day, shall we rewrite the meaning?

Kirby, i was just stuffing my fat faceemoticonwith yet, another piece of pepperoni, so I hear you. I've really got to get it together, and quit eating, it sure doesn't do my joints one bit of good.
Really looking forward to the new year, and a whole new eating plan. I really haven't done well for the last 5 months. I think I've gained 4 lbs. just over Christmas. Boo!!!emoticonAndrea

Happy boxing day, ladies...emoticonto the newbies.emoticon
We spent Christmas eve, at my Mom's, eating, and talking. DH and I came home about 9, and opened our gifts, good stuff. One thing my DDIL bought me a weighted hula hoop. I'm going to try it, but with all of my sore parts, we'll seeemoticon
We had a nice Christmas day, with my Mom, and brother's, DSIL, Jessie and Sam, Jess' boyfriend. DH and I brought DMIL with us, as well. We had a huge turkey dinner, figgy pudding, my favourite, and pecan pie. It was bitter sweet. we always have gone to visit my Gma. in the past, so that made it a bit hard.
We left there at 6, and went out to Big Water, and played games, with DH's daughter's fiance's family. Home about 10, just done in. emoticon
So far today, I've had the girls and their parents, (Jess and Sam) our close friends, and Dh's kids. I just put out meat, cheese, crackers, stuff like that. Everyone is gone for now, and we are alone.
Merri, my kids wouldn't be up and down at my house, never mind their grandparents'. How hard is it, to choose a church outfit. oh well, she is young, but I think back at 19 I was married with a baby. I had to grow up rather quickly. I'm sure no-one will be mad at you for long, I sure hope not. I hope your birthday/Christmas was nice, anyway.
Our weather is cooler today, but will warm up, really good by New Years dayemoticonemoticonAndrea

Happy Day after your Birthday, Merri. It is so nice and quiet here and I like quiet. Our Christmas went really well. Our baby GGS had a fever when he came and did not want anything to do with anyone. He got better and happy like his usual self when all the excitement started. He is one. He had lots of toys but did not seem to interested in them. I brought out my sack of bottles and spray can lids and he and the other one year old had a ball with them. Goes to show you don't have to spend a lot of money to keep little ones happy. Every time I buy spray deodorant, pam spray, hair spray or the like I save the top. I have red, blue, yellow, and other colors. They are different sizes so some can be stacked or put into each other. Isn't it funny what it takes to entertain a baby?

We had a very nice Christmas over at our DD's house. So nice to see two of our other grandkids that came home too..They are the two we baby sat for since birth.

Then when we got home after about 6 hours, I asked if anyone would love some left overs. So our DS, DH & I had some ham. I asked DGD at 19 if she wanted anything. Of course not!

ABout 20 mins later like clock work, she is then hungry. That was it..I told her nicely that in our house we eat together and sleep together.

She was up from midnight until at least 2:30 going back and forth from her bedroom to the bathroom. I was really fighting trying to stay calm enough to keep this darn mask on.

Finally our DS must have heard her and asked if she was ok. Her response was "Well, I knew we were going to go to church early, so I was trying on clothes".

My response to her was "We try clothes on in this house before we go to bed by 10 PM..Not wonder around the house half of the night".

So now our DS is mad at me...not his lovely spoiled DD. I need an apolpgy from her now. Which we never get each time she does these things. No way would our kids have gotten away with something like that our that grand parents house.

I would have had them over my knee so fast...Sorry about my long post LOL...Merri

Oh yes, Marlene, The cats and squirels do set off the motion lights LOL...

All is quiet, everyone except DH and I are gone. Most of the dishes are done. We used paper plates and throw away glasses. Ate too much as usual. DH gave me a nice set of Estee Lauder the scent was Beautiful. We had a real nice time. Our son gave us a motion light that comes on at night when someone walks by....thinking of DH when he comes home after dark from the car lot. I hope we can find someone to put it up and also hope that the cats don't continually set it off. I am very tired, it has been a long day. The house was a total wreck with wrappings and toys and the like. But after everyone picked up their stuff and left it does not look bad at all. I am sure it will need the vacuum cleaner run but that is about all. There were 16 of us.

I went to my son and daughter in laws this morning and home by 1:15pm and my grandson and granddaughter with the baby were here for a bite to eat around 1:30 or so, my daughter cooked my turkey that I got from work at Thanksgiving time and we had a real nice ham dinner last night... My daughter put my turkey on the counter or rather in the sink filled with water last night..Then later this afternoon, I went up to visit with my brother for a little bit..I have had a very good day...My graddaughter's boyfriend was also at my sons, but, my granddaughter (unfortunately) has been in jail for the past 3 wks. but, will be getting out on Monday.. I thank the Lord for that.. She(my granddaughter) has also accepted the Lord as her Saviour and wrote a letter of testimony and Thankgiving to the church people for their prayers and cards and visits, which our Pastor read to the congregation last night at our Christmas Eve Service...I was surprised by the letter and him reading to all.. It truely blessed me...

Oh and my daughter foergot to make the dressing for the turkey and the rolls.. LOL
