See if there are Sprouts Markets near you. That’s the “mainstream” place I find them. No luck with grocers catering to the Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi populations recently. My usual stop was even out of curry leaves. Perhaps markets aimed at Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine would have some.

The name Rambutan literally means 'hairy fruit'. It's a Malaysian fruit that's extremely delicious! You need to use your thumbnail (you actual thumbnail, not the internet kind) to pry open the hairy skin, to get to the delicious flesh! There is a seed in the middle, so you need to eat carefully, similar to the pip of a cherry, but bigger and longer.
I came across someone who posted about buying a tray of 12 rambutans for I forgot how much. She thought it was a good deal, but it was really expensive! They are sold by the kilo here in Malaysia! So, if you're ever in Malaysia, you have to try this fruit! It's sweet and tasty! They are seasonal though. I forgot when the rambutan season is : something to google before making travel plans! ;-)
