I like both, I have real for things I wear every day, and costume for occasional wear. I like to buy a bracelet as a souvenir when we go somewhere special, and those are always costume.

I buy my real pieces at a consignment store that I like. I can get a better quality piece than I would paying the same price at a chain jeweler.

I've decided to keep away from the jewelry shops for a while. I really don't have that kind of money to spend! While I can still earn, I will save as much as possible.

I don't think it's wise to spend like there is no tomorrow.

You may be the only person who really knows if the jewelry is real or not
but if you have your heart set on something that is really special, save up for it. If your funds are limited then the time it takes you to save the money will give you a chance to see if you really want it.

I treasure my real jewelry, but my costume jewelry is also fun.
It's not the price that counts...it's the pleasure it gives you wearing it.

I really don't wear jewelry but prefer the real thing. I have a few pieces that were gifts. I also still have my wedding ring, which was actually my Grandma's ring so even though my ex violated the marital vows on many levels, the ring holds high value for me because it reminds me of my beloved grandma.

All my real jewelry was given to me for special occasions so it’s very meaningful.

Mostly neither one. I prefer jewelry made from beads, shells, seeds, polished pebbles, etc., rather than sparkly gemstones. I DO have a few more formal, sparkly pieces, and most of those are genuine, in real gold or silver. But most of my stuff comes from street vendors or consignment shops, so it would probably be classified as "costume."

I have a lot of costume jewelry, but I really like the real thing.

The only problem with real jewelry I have is with the chocolate diamonds. Also known as brown diamonds. Before Levian came along and started over charging for them. They were common and used for industrial purposes.

The only jewelry I wear is a nice watch but only when I go out, and gold sleepers in my ears (allergic to others and studs irritate.)

I was always a firm believer that when you don't have much money there are a lot more important things to spend it on. Jewelry and makeup always came right at the bottom of the list. I mean, What's going to happen if you don't wear it .... NOTHING! What's going to happen if you don't eat? Or you don't pay medical costs? etc. etc.

Altho' it is nice to have nice things, I would be more inclined to use more of that sort of discretionary spending on helping your father pay your medical costs or your mother her car costs re getting you to work/dialysis or buying the ingredients of a nice meal that you all enjoy, but is a wee bit more expensive for every day enjoyment.

would you rather save up for real jewelry or just get costume jewelry? I prefer real jewelry but can't afford it. But I almost never buy costume jewelry because they don't last. I might, if it's reasonably priced. But if it is also expensive (but of course not as expensive as the real stuff), I'd rather save up for a real piece.
