Prepare for challenges

"Hope for the best, expect the worst" - Hearing this phrase always made me think about being prepared for the what if's. I think there is some wisdom that lies in this, but I also think, like anything, we can get carried away with being prepared for challenges that we forget to relax and live in the moment. We must always look for balance.
Statistics prove that being prepared produces more success than not. If you want to succeed, it does not happen by chance and although you cannot control all circumstances, the idea is you learn about your own strengths and weaknesses and use them to your advantage. So be successful by preparing ahead of time for the potential challenges you will face.
As sparkers we know that we tackle our cravings and food addictions with healthy alternatives. Strategic planning can turn our need for food into energizing fuel instead of love handles. Parking further away from our destination can give us the opportunity to get our steps in and even a short cardio workout.
In our finances, we plan for unexpected events by having an emergency fund. Successful people prepare for challenges by having written budgets and controlling their money instead of their money controlling them.
Spiritually we have the same need to prepare for challenges. God forewarned us of the challenges we would face, and the divisiveness that would come from those who do not have the Spirit. We prepare for these challenges by not entertaining negative thoughts and not participating in events that bring division but instead we obey Christ's greatest two commands to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind, soul and body and then love our neighbor as ourselves. That pretty much will make us successful in our walk with God and with our neighbors. (Mark 12:30-31)
Our ultimate responsibility that blankets all of who we are to be, is to glorify God and to present ourselves before our Lord; knowing we took care of this temple that He gave us. Be successful, prepare your heart (emotions), mind (intellect) soul (spirit) and body (physical) by facing forward, seeing things as they are, but being filled with the Spirit. He promises He will keep you from stumbling. Ultimately He sees it all and He can direct our steps.
