The process to make new Tiny Habits work for you
Wednesday, September 16, 2020
I got an email today from BJ Fogg (Tiny Habits) which lead me looking at some videos on his web page.
I watched this one and liked the person's approach.
Tiny habits is about finding something new you want to do:
- figuring out where in your day/week that new habit fits (after X happens)
- creating something tiny that gets you started on the task (e.g. a starter step or a small amount of the habit) and takes less than a minute.
- choosing a way to celebrate you successfully did something for yourself.
Then keep doing the tiny habit every day (no matter how hard your day is) so the habit is set in place. On good days you can do more, on bad days you do just the tiny habit.
Important, adjust as you see what works/doesn't work for you (some tiny habits immediately become habits, some take adjusting to fit for you).
I liked this talk as the presenter talked about the approach - how to find what fits for you. His focus is tiny habits that lower stress, relax you, make you feel better about life, but the process works for all habits.
