Moving house - Day Four
Friday, September 11, 2020
Today was a hot one. Our friend Mick and his daughter’s BF came over to us at 8am to load up the van. We piled lots in, realising that we’re nearly there, the house here is looking somewhat empty. Hopefully, another two loads will have everything finished on Sunday.
So, by 10:30 we were on our way, as we had to be at the house by 1pm to wait for the internet engineer to install fibre, or so we thought. Originally we had been given a date of 8th October, with a transfer of phone line and ADSL internet on Monday 7th September. So, on day came and went and the internet was still live at the old house, no surprise there. Then, we had a phone call yesterday asking if it was ok for the fibre engineer to call between 1pm and 6pm today - yes, of course, we said. We should have realised that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is... at 5pm I chased the appointment to be told the engineer was still to call on us. At 6:10pm I called again to be told that there was no record of the appointment for today, and the October appointment still stands. What about the missed line transfer on Monday? Well, in my best French, I spoke to three service personnel. After half an hour, I had three apologies from lovely assistants, the date in October confirmed, 100 gigabyte of data to each of our mobile phones free of charge So that we can use our tablets with them as hotspots, and a promise that our phone line would be transferred with ADSL internet by the end of next week....
We finally left to get back to our animals at 6:45 and then, having fed the fur babies, who were disgusted with our tardiness, I cooked our dinner. Just this once, I was going to get thin pizzaS from the village take away, but no, he’s on his annual vacation, so it was closed....
Ah well, in the words of Scarlett O’Hara, ‘Tomorrow is another day...’
Tomorrow we have three friends helping load and two coming with us, then another helping load for Sunday... and now, it time for bed, having achieved 16000 steps on my FitBit, with 94 active minutes, and 36 flights of stairs. Phew, makes me yawn just thinking about it!
Btw, in answer to the question on yesterday‘s blog - never had a pool before and it is 9 metres long!
