I have completed 180 workouts based on the 1913 book by Professor Attila “5 Pound Dumbbell Exercises. Here is my review of the results. Progressing through with dumbbells of increasing weight ( 2 pound, 3 pound to 5 pound) I reduced my workout duration from 20 minutes down to 16 minutes, doing 21 different exercises. My physical results were an increase in visible muscularity with a slight increase in muscle size. The missing part of the equation was any marked increase in strength.
My next phase will be to adopt an 1922 vintage workout programme called “Dynamic Tension” by Charles Atlas which was popularized on the back pages of magazine and comic books. Some of nationally known individuals who took and used the course the were Max Baer, heavyweight boxing champion from 1934 to 1935;Rocky Marciano, heavyweight boxing champion from 1952 to 1956 and Joe Louis, heavyweight boxing champion from 1937 to 1949. The course is still available for purchase..
The foundation of the course is isometric contraction which has been an integral part of strongman training for many years. You can do it using muscle against muscle, pressure against an immoveable object or with resistance bands or weights. I will opt for resistance bands
