This changes everything!

We had a storm today. 100 mph winds. We have small/medium branches down in our yard. Further east on our street a large tree landed on the street, blocking it completely. But, by landing in the street it did not fall on the house right beside it!
We have been power-less since 1:30pm (now 10pm) and have no information as to when the power might come back on. I am using my hotspot on my phone and battery for the laptop. Tomorrow I will have to charge everything up in the car or at a friends who has power. One of my friends said her mother, in Des Moines, was told no power for a week!
Fortunately for me the load in the washer was done spinning before the power went out. That load is on racks in the basement. Late this afternoon when I was tired of reading, tired of knitting, tired of picking up debris I sat with handmade paper and wrote letters by candle light and daylight. By the time I was on the last one I had to light a battery lamp. Tonight is supposed to be cooler than the weekend so the windows are open to keep the house cool.
In the middle of a pandemic this happens!!! But as we were talking I told Dearly Beloved we are lucky. A person on the cross street we drive on all the time had half a tree land on his SUV. We did not lose any part of our roof as my friend in the middle of the state did. We were not on the highway when 21 semis blew over--on Highway 380 between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. That road is closed right now and they do not have detours posted because the normal detours have trees/power lines down.
Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket; I am feeling that lucky!
