Tweaking my Fitness Routine
Tuesday, June 02, 2020
On the exercise front, my lofty goal is to exercise for 30 minutes five times a week with my heart rate in the calorie burning range (over 125). Step one was buying a fitbit on sale last month.
I now see that I was not drinking enough water (which contributes to my allergy/sinus/headache issues) and that my exercise was not achieving the heart muscle/lung capacity building I hoped to do.
The water issue is huge. I lose three days a month to headache and lethargy. This is dangerous time when I fall off the wagon and lose motivation. That dip is hard to overcome. Although I do overcome, it affects my momentum and headspace.
On the days that aren't rainy, I want to substitute a fast walk on the farm. There are some areas where it is safe to run (no varmint holes/rocks or other ankle bending obstacles). Doing this is so spiritual for me--being in nature in the morning.
The second step in achieving this was again a purchase: duck shoes that can keep my feet mostly dry in the morning dew. I don't want to have the dreaded toenail fungus!
Last, Every day I have managed to get going and out run/walking five or ten minutes earlier each day. This has the advantage of getting me in the garden working a little earlier each day. I don't actually like to exercise, but I do love being in nature.
My mood at at the start of the day soars as a) I am in nature and b) I have accomplished a lot/met my fitness goal before the day begins.
