Deck Makeover

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

So we are working on making over our backyard space. Yesterday I spent 2 hours scrubbing it by hand. We don't own a power washer. My back and shoulders aren't as sore today as I thought they would be!!
Here are some before photos:

Some photos I took during the process to note the difference in the wood:

We're waiting to get our crossover back from the shop as we need it to haul those old chairs and dog bed to the dump. I got such a workout yesterday from scrubbing, and I hit my 10,000 step goal!
The end result was so worth it. I am so happy. It isn't fully dry in the end photo, but you can still see a huge difference. It rained again last night so I still don't know what it looks like completely dry!

We bought the patio set from a lady on Facebook Marketplace and she gave us the 2 lanterns for free! I was wanting lanterns anyway for the space so that was such a huge blessing.
If the weather gets nice like they are saying, we will be eating dinner out there tonight. I still have plants to hang some string lighting, do some landscaping and get some potted plants, including some planters that hook to the deck rail.
Today's plan is to do some yoga to soothe my sore muscles and loosen things back up. Yard work is definitely a good workout!

I'm surprised that you aren't sore from all that scrubbing! It looks fabulous and inviting! Will you put something on the wood to seal it once you're done washing? If the chairs aren't broken, I'll bet you could put them and the dog bed on FB Markeplace and someone would pick them up and save you the trip to the dump!
