Weekly Assessment & Goals for Upcoming Week

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

It’s Wednesday – time for my weekly assessment and goals for next week.

Last week’s goals were:
1. Continue whole food plant based lifestyle with minimal added sugar & processed foods
2. Continue with daily morning stretching, strength exercises (3x/wk), Yoga (3x/wk).
3. Interval Walking Workouts (3x/wk) (See Below.)
4. Be aware of the strain on neck muscles
5. Attend Yoga and Quilting/Knitting Group at Senior Center
6. Continue with Walk This Way Challenge
7. Continue working on infant quilt for Project Linus and add project to my Quilting Journal
8. Get started on income tax return
9. Check out the Senior Sneakers Program on Friday or Monday at Planet Fitness

It's been another successful week. Both federal and state individual income tax returns have been filed for another year. I’m always glad to get that out of the way!

Meals and food have not been a problem. Sunday was rest day for me and I did get bored in the afternoon and had the munchies – not for sweets, but just to feel full. I ended up making some popcorn and then going out for a walk. So that did the trick.

I did check out Planet Fitness. I am indeed eligible for a free basic membership at Planet Fitness. I went to orientation this past Monday and got a quick tour of the facility and the different machines. I swear there’s a different machine to target every muscle in the body!! I used the treadmill after the orientation session for 35 minutes – I played with the speed and the incline. And I could see my heart rate which is something I’ve been wanting to monitor. I’ll be going to the gym every Mon, Wed & Friday – so I’m planning on going back this morning. I have a one-on-one meeting scheduled for March 18th with a trainer. She will help me get started on a cardio and strength training routine. Until then, I’m going to concentrate on just cardio by using the treadmill and trying out the stationary bike, rower, and elliptical. I’ll do some strength training routines at home by watching some SparkPeople videos.

I did try out the Interval Walking workouts a few times while walking in the neighborhood. I’ll be incorporating that on the treadmill at the gym going forward by adjusting the speed and incline. It’ll be easier to monitor on the treadmill then walking in the neighborhood. I do want to continue taking an afternoon walk on most days – I enjoy getting out for a bit.

I continue to go to the Senior Center for Yoga and the Knitting/Quilting group. I’m getting to know some of the other participants, and I look forward to it. The infant knitted blanket is coming along really well as is the quilt. I’ve got 8 of the 13 picture blocks done – so I’ve made good progress. I also opened up the batting and spread it on the spare bed to get it to relax. I also got the journal started for this project.

Today is the last day of the Walk This Way Challenge. I think I’m going to take a break and just concentrate on getting used to going to the gym for a couple of weeks before jumping into a new challenge. Everything in moderation!

Goals for the upcoming week:
1. Continue whole food plant based lifestyle with minimal added sugar & processed foods
2. Continue with daily morning stretching, strength exercises (3x/wk), Yoga (3x/wk).
3. Interval Walking Workouts on the treadmill at the gym 3x/wk
4. Be aware of the strain on neck muscles
5. Attend Yoga and Quilting/Knitting Group at Senior Center
6. Continue working on infant quilt for Project Linus and add project to my Quilting Journal
7. Reach out to family a couple times

Wishing everyone the best for the upcoming week!
