Getting ready for a radical, new approach (for me, anyway)...

Monday, January 20, 2020

Hi everyone,

So here I go (again). I've been thinking about going vegan lately - doing some research, etc. I intend to try it 100% throughout our leap year month, this February, 2020. I will post my initial stats on Saturday, February 1st and will post my progress on Sunday, March 1st. I do not plan to weigh myself or take any measurements from February 2nd through the end of the month. Risky? Maybe. Still, I am very curious to see what will happen.

For the first 30 days, no animal products, including dairy (Ah! Yogurt and cheeses, I will MISS all of YOU most of all!), eggs and even bee products (like honey, royal jelly, etc.) I will go extremely light on the processed carbs and will mainly eat grains like oats, quinoa and barley rather than wheat-based products. I will refrain from processed foods as much as possible and will rely more heavily on beans and non-starchy veggies. I will also go lighter on oil consumption (of any kind) for the first 30 days, but I don't plan to cut them out completely. I will omit all soda and seltzer, as well as most artificial sweeteners of any kind (but I will allow xylitol, sorbitol, erythritol - the sugar alcohols).

Speaking of alcohol, I will consume no alcoholic beverages of any kind beginning February 1st (and probably before that, but firm as of February 1st).

I can have soy and soy products, but will limit "over-processed" versions, like "fake meats" for now.

After March 1st, I may gradually re-introduce Greek yogurt and some cheeses as well as limited eggs, to see how it goes, but I'm thinking of limiting other animal products to fish and occasionally chicken and turkey, but no more red meat (beef) or pork but will allow lamb on very special occasions (like when I make stuffed grape leaves and other specialty foods for my family on holidays, etc.)

I am currently phasing out what remains of my perishable, non-vegan products over the next several days. I will be going to my sister's new place in Florida from 2/8 through 2/16; so that will be challenging (they eat mostly meat, potatoes, bread, dairy, desserts, processed foods - basically whatever I'll be trying to avoid), but I warned her ahead of time and told her I still think I can do it. :) (!)

My next post (other than replies) will be my February 1 stats. I also plan to include regular activity and will post that as well, in an effort to remain accountable.

Wish me luck - I will definitely NEED it, LOL!

Cheers and love,

(Carole, xO)

I wish you luck, but I personally think that is to strict, you are cutting out to much at once. But that is just me, I know I could only last a few days, no way for a whole month. I do hope you manage this, and have the out come you want. But on a positive note I hope you great success, and if you need a pep talk, just let me know, cause I do want you to succeed. But you have to keep us informed on how you are doing.
