Walking in the Right Direction 👣

Today is another mild winter day. So like every other day this winter break, I hiked the nature trails behind our neighborhood. We moved to the suburbs from the city over the summer after buying a new home. A bonus perk of our neighborhood is the wooded trail that winds over a little creek.

For the first time in a while, I feel like I'm walking in the right direction. I'm walking toward better health and fitness.

The day after Thanksgiving, I went for a checkup. The doctor gave it to me straight: My blood pressure is dangerously high. My kidneys are damaged by the unchecked blood pressure. I had to make better choices immediately... or else.

So I snapped back into line, and have been a model of healthy living in the weeks since.

My medication has gotten my blood pressure under control, so I have the energy and capacity to get out and move. But as I walk those trails, I'm not thinking about the distance from A to B, or the calories I'll burn circling the trail. No. I'm visualizing walking toward my HEALTH and FITNESS. Like a journey to reunite with a beloved companion taken 10,000 steps at a time. So I am walking in the right direction. And when I catch up with em', we'll lock arms and hike those trails together.
