10 degrees here in the Springs

Good morning everyone, hoping you all had a good nites sleep.

today I am taking my dogs emoticon emoticon once again which I do every month at $50 each time ... taking them to get their anal glands emptied.

I also requested an appt to schedule a surgery to REMOVE their anal glands due to a history of chronic anal gland problems... NOT to mention the emptying of anal glands each month is a PAINFUL procedure for each dog...and I am done. No matter how much it cost I will pull out my credit card to get this surgeries done as NO DOG should have live with that. I researched the surgery and pros and cons and come to find out anal gland problems are COMMON with small dogs emoticon ugh!.
Awaiting a call back from the doctor... as she is OUT this week.

Our vet would not do the surgery as our dog was over 10 yrs old. Instead he suggested we sprinkle about a teaspoon of fiber powder (think Metamucil) on her food. Since we started that our poor dog never had another problem. She had so many burst anal glands that was expensive and painful, it sort of made me mad that he waited so long to mention it. Don't know if it would help your puppies but I don't think it would hurt and just might take care of the problem without painful and expensive surgery. Talk to your vet about it and I hope it all works out for you as it is so painful for our furbabies.

I didn't know there was such a surgery, but I totally agree with you. If it is a chronic problem, causes them pain when it has to be 'drained', then it sounds like a good choice. I have to keep an eye out for that problem w/my little fur baby Lilly.

    HUGS and stay warm!
