Is Pilates for Me??

I need something new ... have had a very hard time going back to the gym since I got my pacemaker (2 years ago!). I'm walking pretty consistently, but I'm finding my back is bothering me more and my leg/calf muscles are really tight!
I've known people who LOVE pilates classes (with the equipment, in a private studio) and explored options in my community. Trying to find classes that work within my work schedule led me to cross a couple places off my list of places to try. Finally found a Club Pilates not too far away that has classes I think I could work into my schedule.
I'm starting slow (1x/week), partly due to cost and partly due to an upcoming vacation ... why pay for classes I couldn't use while I'm away? I've had a 30 min. Intro class and 2 regular classes now. I like it (though I'm not always sure what the instructor is telling me to do). I definitely FEEL it! But I haven't been sore the day after (as I expected).
I like the fact the instructor is closely watching each person -- there are a max of 11 students at one time -- and the fact that no one else in the class really can see what this Newbie is doing. No sense of "I can't keep up with her" or "She probably thinks I'm slacking." Each person is just focused on his/her own workout, and the instructor is letting me know if I need to adjust a position, or how to modify an exercise.
I was doing great on eating healthy until I went out of town a few weeks ago, and have been into the sweets at work too often since then. But I'm determined to do better, and I know that once I get a few days of "no sweets" under my belt, it won't be so hard.
So, onward I go!
