Going against the flow could make it easier

It goes against conventional wisdom that I should go against the flow (yes, not with the flow, but against) to make things easier for myself. And yet, that's just what I've come to realize.
In other words...if I want to make it easier for myself to achieve the goals I've laid out, I should go against the flow of my usual routine.
When I shake things up, my usual excuses fall aside and barriers shrink dramatically. I change my satisfaction threshold from seeking out the next moment to rest...to squeezing in another goal to master- for the day. Now that I'm older (hey, how did I suddenly get to be 48 years old?) I'm looking for longevity in health and fitness goals- not necessarily the biggest, heaviest, meanest looking goal to squash. May we all find new ways to go against the flow.
