Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:7

A sailor observed that in the engine room of a steamship, it's impossible to know how much water the great boiler contains by just looking at it. But running alongside the boiler is a small glass tube that serves as a gauge. The gauge offers a perfect measurement for the volume within the boiler.
In the same way, people can't tell by looking at us how much we love the Lord, for that invisible love within us is unseen by human eyes. But they do keep an eye on the gauge, which is our love for others. By noticing how we treat other people--how we love the unlovely, care for the needy, encourage the lonely, and interact with the troublesome--they can detect something of our love for Him.
The Bible says, "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely; does not seek its own" (1 Corinthians 13;4-5) True love is found in helping a brother in need (1 \john 3:18-19). Let's keep the water level of love high in the boilers of our hearts.
God's greatest Commandment is to love one another as He loves us. If we can all follow this commandment, the world would be so beautiful to live in.
