The Outer Limits

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Yesterday, I thought I was either in the Zone or past my Limits. My iPad screen had some cracks a couple of weeks ago - they were getting worse. Went to the Apple Store in ABQ Uptown. Ever been in one? NOISY!Waited for nearly 3 hours until it was my turn. They can’t repair the screens, but I could get a discount on a replacement. Dude took out the SIM card (?) & put it in the new one. I declined to wait there & get my data put on my new one - my head was splitting. Got home, followed his instructions (& the prompts from the new iPad). Didn’t work, reset passwords, didn’t work, repeat. Scream! Found my old Kindle Fire - needed charging. Decided to walk the pups while it was charging - BOOM! Thunderstorms. Shoot. Went to bed early. Got up @ 8 tried again, Nope, the iPad still wouldn’t work, & the Fire told me it didn’t have any room (delete unnecessary file or add a chip). Went back to the Apple cart, was told they couldn’t do it there, but I could get a call back for a specific time today. (I chose 1 pm) About 10 minutes before 1, I very carefully wrote out some password options, tapped them in very slowly. Got the call just as I tried to start the download - which started working! Ay-y-y! He was very gracious, stayed on line as everything slowly downloaded from the Cloud. Took a little over an hour. Finally, my iPad was working. (Still downloaded some stuff until about 6 pm) Thanked him effusively. Told him just the knowledge that somebody smarter than the E-toys was on line mad it work. So, I’m back. Did you miss me?

The Outer Limits, 1963-65
Similar to “Twilight Zone”, but more scientifically oriented. I loved it! I bet it’d be better with today’s special effects.

It began with a voice over: “There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to – The Outer Limits.”

It ended with the closing voice over: “We now return control of your television set to you. Until next week at the same time, when the control voice will take you to – The Outer Limits.”

Rocket Man, Elton John, 1972

She packed by bag last night, preflight
Zero hour, nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
I miss the earth so much
I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone

Mars ain't the kind of place
To raise your kids
In fact, it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them
If you did

And all this science
I don't understand
It's just my job
Five days a week

A Rocket Man
Rocket Man
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home

Ah, no no no...
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...

I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone

And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
Long, long, time
Long, long, time
Ah, no, no, no...
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...
