New Goal After 50 Pound Loss - Body Acceptance

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

I've been learning so much about health and fitness lately. It's like a lightbulb went off in my head. I want to put more focus on maintaining the weight I've already lost instead of just being on the hunt to lose more.

The whole weight loss thing can easily become an obsession, especially for people already obsessed with numbers and charts. When I first started my plan almost 11 months ago, I wanted to lose about 85 to 100 pounds in a year. I thought losing "only" 50 pounds would be a "worst-case scenario". I was very frustrated with how slow the weight was coming off. But now, I'm actually very proud to have lost 50 pounds, even if I don't lose any more.

My current weight is actually in an acceptable range for my body. I'm not "skinny" but I'm not big either. My stomach is flat and I can move around easily in various situations. I almost feel comfortable in my new body. I say "almost" because this is a work in progress for me. I'm trying hard to look in the mirror and not say negative things. So from now on, I want to encourage myself and work with my body, not against it.

The goal now is maintenance. If I lose more along the way, that's great. But if I don't, that's okay too because I look fine the way I am.
