The Man Who Put Me On the Fence This Morning
Monday, April 08, 2019
This morning I was walking at the park which has a 1.25 mile track. I passed a man around my age (I'm in my 70's). As I passed him, he said "You're big. How much do you weigh?" I had my earphones in listening to a book so I pretended not to hear him. At that moment I could have either let it defeat me or not.
Now I have gained weight - about 20 pounds. But I have given myself a pardon as it was gained from stress eating. My sister was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor the end of September. She lived 10 hours away. I spent a month there getting things set up to move her close to us. We got her moved and withing 3 weeks things began to get worse. She died Dec. 17th. The family got through Christmas and in January we spent a month dealing with legal items, emptying her house, etc. As executor it has been a little stressful. But I am back.
Now back to the man in the park...I made the decision to fall on the right side of the fence and spent the rest of my walk looking at NSVs from that remark.
1. I passed him...so my speed is greater.
2. We started at the same time and he stopped before me...my endurance is greater.
3. I continued with a smile on my face.
4. I would never make an insensitive statement like that to anyone.
Maybe I am turning the corner in this journey. I am off to the grocery store where I walk the whole store before completing my list.
I'm going to have a great Monday. I can only wish him to have one as well.
