It's a journey.... week eight

In my first post 8 weeks ago, I encouraged you to unpack your suitcase and leave your preconceived notions behind while on this journey. The idea was that you would figuratively fill it with the new things and ideas you learned along the way.
How full is that suitcase now? As empty as the day you started, or have you stuffed it full with insights and things you have learned? Have you gained any wisdom along the way that will carry you through the rest of this journey?
I have had a few hiccups along the way in this challenge, My son’s father in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and my husband has been battling possible congestive heart failure. These events took their toll on me emotionally and I realized as a result that I am a “stress eater.” Those late evening bowls of ice cream and those mid afternoon trips to the vending machine were a direct result of my stress. Having learned that, I am trying to find other ways to release those emotional ups and downs besides putting food into my mouth.
I also realized that I need to have a back up exercise plan. My go-to way to burn off energy and calories is to walk, but Southern California has been deluged with rain over the past two months so walking was out of the question. I live in a 3rd floor apartment so a jazzercize dvd was not an option either as I am sure my downstairs neighbor would object. I did what I could but cardio exercise was definitely lacking in this challenge.
The point I am trying to make is that we need to be flexible and willing to change our routine or our habits, We need to keep our minds open to new ideas so we can grow and change accordingly.
My suitcase is ready for the next leg of our journey. I encourage you to get yours ready as well and I hope to travel with you in the Spring 5% Challenge.
