My least favorite part of winter

Saturday, February 16, 2019

… is the ice. I know for a fact that I am not the only person who has slipped and fallen on this week’s ice. Thankfully there’s nothing broken except my confidence. The dogs are not any happier about having their feet slide out from under them either (they are too light to break through.) So even though it does not look like it will melt anytime soon, we are resorting to indoor play for the near future.

The details… after a day of misty rain, followed by an hour or two of sunshine, it all froze up as we approached sunset. The ice we received earlier in the week was now glazed to a shiny, smooth, slippery surface. We were returning from a short walk when it happened AND I did have my mini-grippers on AND I was picking my way carefully up the driveway when… Wham Bang… I was down. It was an almost perfect face plant except my face did not hit the surface (thankfully.) Both dogs immediately came to check on me (they are so sweet or else they figured I was on the ground to play with them. That’s exactly what they think when I do my indoor stretches and yoga. They just don’t give up.)

When will I learn?? I have brought my full-size “Yak Trax” inside the house to warm up. Hopefully they will become pliable enough that I can get them on my boots without causing myself injury. Either that or I will have to put them on lighter-weight footwear (not best choice in snow country.)

Enough complainin’… I know I’m not alone so be careful out there!

I am late to the skate. Hopefully all the ice is over for the season.

Sorry you had a fall :(. I have yak trax and my husband does too, but I can't get mine on my shoes! You are the first person I have encountered who has mentioned the same issue!Take care. We have a winter blast coming tonight.

Never heard of yaktrax, going to look that up. Glad you didn't break anything. I try to be so careful on ice but I know so well that no matter how careful you are you can end up on your behind.

I am so ready for Spring. I think this is the worse part of winter for me.

Thankfully I no longer live in an area where we have those winters. I did for a long time and I took my tumbles over the years

I'm glad you're ok. I have a huge fear of falling since my two shoulder falls. One on ice like you, the other my own stupidity!

You and me both... ice is my least favorite thing about Winter. And there is this spot on my sidewalk that I've complained about before, where all the melt and run off from the whole neighborhood puddles... and re-freezes. I was out with the ice melt again yesterday, but... there's only so much one can do!

Be careful out there, glad you didn't break anything, and hope any aches and soreness heals quickly!

I am so with you on disliking ice! Last week we had so many people in the hospital that fell on the ice and my hubby fell twice last week as well. Take good care and be careful out there!

I haven't walked Daisy for several weeks now. The last time we went out - and yes, I had my ice grippers on my boots too - the path was so icy and chunked up that when I got to the church parking lot I call my husband to pick us up. For awhile it was funny watching Daisy out in the back yard which looked like an ice rink. She stopped running - her little legs would take very small and very careful steps. Now with so much snow on top of it she runs like crazy to come in.
