Time to take care of me

As I was looking through my old blogs I can see a girl/mom/wife struggling. Struggling with balance, self image, and life in general.
This past May we moved into what we are hoping will be our retirement home. A ranch style which is great for my fibro, larger than our last house, and just really what we wanted. We literally moved a mile away, LOL.
Then I drove over 1000 miles to go to my sister's wedding in June, just me and my girlie. The hubby quit his job due to harassment, and was trying hard to find a new one, so he didn't go with us. It was great bonding time for my daughter and I, but really hard on me physically.
Then home again, to unpack and finish setting up home. In August we started back to homeschooling---9th grade.
All of this led to lots of not taking care of me.
I knew it, but I figured I would get back to it....I never did.
Then I had a checkup-------most of it was good, but my cholesterol was bad. The doctor wanted to put me on Lipitor----I don't take pharmaceuticals unless I have too. I only take 2 currently-1 to help me sleep(people with fibro have wacky sleep cycles) 1 for my PTSD.
That's it, I am 41 and only 2 meds--not too shabby, and Gosh darn it, I don't want another one.
SOOOOO I asked my pharmacist, she's like "oh it's great, it can extend your life, blah blah blah."
Then I did my research--it causes weight gain, umm HELLO!! I am already 125lbs over weight! Memory fog---I have Fibro Fog, that's won't work, and increases chance of type 2 diabetes!!!!
So I called my doc and said--I WILL NOT TAKE IT! She gave me 90 days--I came up with a plan.
What lowers cholesterol--soluble fiber, how much do I need? According to the Mayo Clinic 10-12g daily.
SO I started out figuring out how much soluble fiber is in everything. I even emailed company's of products I use asking their soluble fiber content--sadly majority are insoluble--good for colon, not good for cholesterol.
So here is my chain of attack which, I am happy to state, has been in action since Oct 2nd, today is the 15th--13 days!! Booyah!
1C old fashioned oatmeal
1/3 sliced almonds
2tsp metamucil =
9g guaranteed soluble fiber--I get more with the fruits and veggies--but this gives me a solid base.
Every other day
whole avocado opposite day I have 1 C fresh carrot juice
I have also added Cholestoff from Nature Made, Omegas, and Resveratol in the way of supplements--I have others too, but these are what I added.
Exercise--I know it has to happen so for the month of October I am doing cardio, and won't stress about weights/resistance until November--so I get in the habit.
5 days a week--I give myself the weekends off.
Sauna--I am sooo spolied! my hubby got me one last Christmas to help with my fibro--and YES it does help.
I discovered that 30min/4 times a week can help lower cholesterol too. So that is a priority as well.
I am taking care of myself!!! Little by little, I am starting to have more energy & feel better.
Last week I cut 5" from my hair, and am starting to pay a bit more attention to my appearance too.
I can't wait to see where I am January 1st!! I am betting I can kick that cholesterol DOWN!
