Ellie put on limited walking for two weeks.

Friday, July 27, 2018

Yesterday we left the house at 7am to walk to the pond with my neighbor lady. She holds Meena's leash as if she is walking her dog while I have Ellie. My neighbor is 81 yrs old and enjoys walking with us on Thursday morning as part of her exercise routine.

As we got to the pond and crossed the bridge, Ellie started limping as if she had thorn in her foot. I looked and felt all around the pads of her foot but found nothing. As we started walking again, she started limping again so I told my neighbor to go on and we would wait for her by the picnic tables then go home with her. While sitting there I called for an appointment with my dog's vet. I was able to get in at 3:30pm so all went according to plan. The doctor said nothing serious like a torn ligament but Ellie probably stepped on something that bruised the soft tissue on her foot. Since the dogs and I generally walk 4 miles in the morning (too hot to walk any other time of the day), the vet said no long distance walking for two weeks. That is really hard for Ellie because she would rather run 4 miles than walk it but graciously slows down for me as my running days are over. So today we walked one mile and then came home.

After lots of play time in the yard while I was watering and weeding the flower beds, they have now settled down for their morning nap. We won't go out for another walk until about 8pm. If I want to walk more, I must now leave Ellie at home and just walk with Meena. I don't think Ellie will like being left at home while Meena gets to go for a walk.
