Outside My Comfort Zone
Thursday, June 07, 2018
If you read my previous blog, "The Prize", you know about the rec. center holding a contest for membership prizes. You also read about my discomfort about the water requirements for the month of June. You also know that I'm NOT a swimmer.
I didn't realize until this contest that I am after all a pretty competitive person. When I mentioned this to my husband, he without hesitation said "Yeah, I always knew you were competitive". I haven't asked him to elaborate, but I'm curious as to what his reasoning would be behind that statement. Hmmmmmm...................must ask him.
I donned a swimsuit (yikes!) went out to the pool, twice so far, and joined two different water aerobics classes this week. And I didn't drown. As I'm sure you can tell from my writing this blog.
While I didn't particularly enjoy the classes, I found that I can step outside my comfort zone and try something new. I also discovered that trying something new doesn't bother me the way it once did. I don't have the fear of being judged or not measuring up like I have in the past. I've come to realize that most people, especially at the gym/rec. center, really aren't concerned with anything more than doing their own thing and how THEY appear. This realization has been freeing for me. Yes, I admit there are those people who are judging others but that's their problem, not mine.
Drum roll please, for the month of May for most visits/classes attended, I won a months free membership. Yipee skippie hooray! My husband knows me better than I know myself, I am competitive after all! Lets see how I do the rest of the contest! Pool time and all! Bring it on! Oh yeah, there are a couple of people trying to get me to do the climbing wall, I'll let you know if I'm THAT brave!
