SparkPeople has so many wonderful resources, if we just tap into them! When I fist joined, I enjoyed getting a kick out of watching my points multiply when I read articles. I still do, but now I pick and choose the articles more precisely for things that will support my healthy living efforts.
As a Speech Language Pathologist, even though I have retired, I continue to work on advancing my knowledge so I can stay current. That means I need to do continuing ed. I try to complete 5-10 hours each month. Because I have done this for many years, other SLP's often contact me for advice on treatment techniques, current research information and more. It is very important not to take everything at face value, as good research will prove or disprove theories, so one must understand what is good research rather than theory or research that doesn't meet the high standards that are necessary to find truth in science!
The more we know, the better choices we can make. I hunger for knowledge and seek out information in many areas, including ideas for my grandsons. I do my best to listen so I can learn from others. They say one will be the same person in 5 years except for the people we meet and the books (or articles) we read. My decisions and directions are guided by the knowledge I obtain and apply.
