Happy Open Enrollment Month. (Yes, in the most tangential sense, this is a Spark blog because what is weight management than not about health?).

Odds are you have experienced, are experiencing, or will experience that annual rite of

(1) What will my employer do to me - and do they really have to?;

(2) How much more will it cost me?; and/or

(3) How much less will I get in terms of coverage?

What if I told you that as the employer, it's even harder for us than for you? That's really true, because we're also balancing issues such as affordability, morale, and retention.

As an employer, here is my take, for better or worse:

    Jenga, Chinese checkers, cootie, Barre of Monkeys.., Caring for those who are parts of the whole of a company, is just common sense. Glad you used your noggin'!

    Ugh, I do not envy you one bit! (I knew that there was a reason I didn't want to own a business - this is just one of many. Way too many headaches - I'd never sleep!)

    Great article and fair solution (although a fixed percentage for employee x with 8 dependents has more of a kick than the same fixed percentage for employee y with no dependents -- but that's outside your control and also their "choice" in some sense).

    And as an employer north of the border: I'm grateful this is NOT something I need wrestle with annually. But that perception that business expenses do nothing BUT go up for lower and lower returns? Yup.

    I absolutely love the a large group of baboons is called a congress. It really does explain a whole lot. Now how do we explain the idiot in the White House?

    You are a good employer! That is the most dread part, for me, with open enrollment --- potentially having to change hearlth care providers. As a nurse, I find that to be absolutely counter productive. When you have built a solid relationship w/your health care provider, your level of care, I think is enhanced. so . . . . kudos that your EE's will not have to change.

    I certainly can see, via your blog, how difficult it is as an employer to try to meet everyone's health care needs.

    Thanks for sharing. DH and I "cast our health care ballot" last week. We'll see if we did choose wisely. I think we did.
