Irma sure did a lot a traveling in Florida and none of us could pin her down! She could not make her mind exactly which vacation spot she wanted to visit so she pretty much hit them all!!
We decided to not evacuate but we did batten down the hatch, put away everything that could take flight and on Sunday morning we went about 10 miles to ride out Irma with our friend's daughter. We had 6 adults, 1 teenager, 5 shih-tzus, a cat and a guinea pig!! We passed most of Sunday playing cards waiting for Irma to drop by for her visit. Eva had made shepherds pie for all of us for lunch and we settled for sandwiches for supper along with things that didn't require much work.
We lost power about 12:30 AM and the worst of the storm was about 2-3 AM. None of us got much sleep. We were all up by daylight and by 10:30 we headed back home. Eva used her camp stove to fix scrambled eggs and kielbasa for everyone. We did not starve.
We found most of the stop lights were out on our way home but didn't see massive destruction even in the mobile home parks even though the eye went over us. We have roof damage on our carport but nothing major-looks like it will need replaced.
We have damage in our community-one lost carport, a lot a trim blown off, a couple of windows broken, some fence blown down, leaning palm trees, and lots of debris. We are thankful it wasn't worse. It is all fixable.
